This is an annual competition between the Year 5 and 6 classes of St Dominics and St Johns, conducted as part of our Enrichment program. All students in these classes present speeches to their classmates and from these presentations three overall winners per class are selected to represent their school in the Finals. The topics covered this year were very entertaining and suitably persuasive! I congratulate the overall winner from St Johns today for the Year 5 contestants was Thomas Wigley and for Year 6 one of the St Dominics students. I also extend congratulations to all the semi-finalists from Years 5 & 6 who represented St Johns so admirably today. Congratulations and well done to: Yr 6 Scarlett Kelly, Grace Jooste and Kai McCallum. Yr 5 Evie Dalziell, Thomas Wigley and Stephanie Bottega. Kai McCallums speech was about pollution in the environment and as such he has been invited in to both the Pre Primary and Year 3 classes as a guest speaker to support their current learning about the impact of pollution. Thank you everyone for your understanding and patience with our Snack Shackemergency over the past couple of weeks. Rachel did a great job preppinglast Tuesday, and on Wednesday in operation, with some invaluable assistance provided by Eimear Durkin and Ikuko Glauert. Thank you Ikuko and Eimear. Sam is steadily recovering and she gave Rachel lots of tips over the phone on the Tuesday. We are hoping the Kindy group can provide a parent helper for canteen support this Wednesday. I would like to extend my appreciation to all parents who help out on the Church Cleaning roster for the fantastic gift of selflessness you provide to our parish. The St Johns P&F instigated this role a couple of years ago as something that was seen as a P&F community service involvement. Our Yr 5 and 6 students also join these cleaning teams as part of their Social Justice Community Service responsibilities. Sonia Bamundo took on the Coordinator role this year, facing all the difficulties presented by the church renovation with aplomb. She has done a fantastic job of updating and further clarifying TERM 4 WEEK 4 – 31 October 2017 CALENDAR OF EVENTS the tasks required. We are very appreciative of her input this year and extend a big THANK YOU to her. We also thank Vivienne Rigney for putting her hand up for the Coordinator Role for 2018. A new vacuum has been purchased for the church that has a turbo rotating power head which apparently gathers up all the fluff from the lush red carpet most effectively. Hopefully this will make the job a little easier for all. Please consider putting your hand up for the P&F Committee for 2018 and also nominating as a Class Representative for the P&F. The nomination forms are on the school website and available in the front Admin. Office. Our AGM is being held on Monday evening the 20 th November. The weather for the P&F Lapathon event is looking ideal for Friday – at this stage. The Coordinators, Emma Taylor and Karen Wilsoncroft, have sent a text message letting all parents of Yr 1- 6 students know that students are encouraged to wear their Guild tee shirts, any coloured or patterned socks and favourite running shoes, etc. for the day. A Sausage Sizzle is being provided for lunch for all children in Years 1- 6.
