From the Principal Dear families Today is HARMONY DAY and we will join with Australia to celebrate our cultural diversity and acknowledge the contribuons of people who have come from so many different countries to live in Australia, whilst also recognising the tradional owners of our land. Australia is one of the most culturally and linguiscally diverse countries in the world, with over half of our populaon being born overseas or having one or more parents who were born overseas. The first Harmony Day was in 1966. It was held in remembrance of events that took place in Sharpeville, South Africa, on 21st March, 6 years earlier, when a number of people in a large crowd who were peacefully demonstrang against apartheid laws, were killed or injured by police. Apartheid, which means “apartness,” was a system where people of different races were treated differently under different laws. This system was abolished in 1991. Harmony Day aims to recognise the many posive aspects of living in a mulcultural society; acknowledge what we are doing to be accepng of all; address any aspects of racism that may exist in our community and reinforce posive messages of welcome and that “everyone belongs”. The message of Harmony Day, EVERYONE BELONGS, celebrates our cultural diversity and reminds us why it is so important to demonstrate what we value at Carramar – to be a welcoming and inclusive school where we respect each other and always demonstrate a strong sense of community and belonging. Be proud of your culture and accepng of others. We will be having a brief whole school assembly this morning, where our choir will perform and some students will share some insights of their cultural heritage. Students are asked to wear orange clothing, (the colour of harmony) or our school uniform. Please remember clothing and footwear must be appropriate. Parents are most welcome to aend. different races were treated differently under different laws. This system was abolished in 1991.

Harmony Day aims to recognise the many posive aspects of living in a mulcultural society; acknowledge what we are

doing to be accepng of all; address any aspects of racism that may exist in our community and reinforce posive messages

Merit Award Winners Chaplain’s Chat

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a great start to

the year here at Carramar

Primary School. I would just

like to remind you that it is

a long year ahead and it is important to pace yourself in

all that you do. I thought a story would encourage you

and I am sure most of you have heard it. It’s about a

Rabbit and a Tortoise!

There once was a speedy Rabbit who bragged about how

fast he could run. Tired of hearing him boast, the tortoise

challenged him to a race. All the animals in the forest

gathered to watch.

The rabbit ran down the road for a while and then paused

to rest. He looked back at the tortoise and cried out,

“How do you expect to win this race when you are

walking along at your slow pace?”

The Rabbit stretched himself out alongside the road and

fell asleep, thinking, “There is plenty of me to relax.”

The Tortoise walked and walked, never stopping unl he

came to the finish line.

The animals who were watching cheered so loudly for

Tortoise that they woke up the Rabbit. The Rabbit

stretched, yawned and began to run again, but it was too

late. Tortoise had already crossed the finish line.

Have a great week!

Mr Booysen

On Friday 9th March, the Annual T20 Milo Cricket Compeon

was held at Kingsway Sporng Complex. Carramar PS entered 5

teams, mixed up of Years 4, 5 and 6 boys and girls.

The students enjoyed their day with 5 games spread over the

whole day. Our boys and girls teams performed very well, picking

up at least 3 wins out of 5 games! This included a Carramar Vs

Carramar game, which came down to the wire! We showed that

we have some aspiring cricket talent in the years to come.

Overall, the day was a huge success! Many thanks to Mr Malaos,

Mr Booysen and the many parents who helped out, making the

day a smooth event for all. Well done to all students on their

fantasc behaviour, they showed true Carramar expectaons.
