THANK YOU

Thank you for your patience while we organised 2018 classes. This is a very complicated process and one that is reliant on knowing which of our 2017 students are returning as well as new students arriving on the first day of school. Unfortunately this year we were not notified of all returning students who were taking extended holidays and 5 new enrolment arrived after census day. This necessitated us forming a new class. We thank all those affected for your understanding.

SCHOOL UNIFORM:

We are proud of our school and our uniform. Our school uniform has been agreed on by the school community and wearing full school uniform is a way of showing pride and support for our WRPS. Please be aware that black shoes are to be worn every day except on sport days and that only official school polo shirts and jacket are to be worn. The uniform shop has good quality second hand uniforms for sale at a very reasonable price. This year we will be following up on all students wearing their correct uniform.

COMMUNICATION:

At West Ryde PS we use a range of communication methods to keep our community up to date.

Newsletter –The newsletter is sent out to families via the Skoolbag app. The newsletter can also be found on our website and a hard copy in the office foyer.

School Website – The website provides a platform to locate general information about MPPS. Permission notes, photos and new stories are uploaded throughout the year.

Skoolbag App. – The skoolbag app. provides notifications to your phone. The app. is used to provide you with reminders about school events. For information on how to download the app, please view information in this newsletter.

Can I please ask that you do not come to class lines or to classrooms and expect the teachers to talk to you while supervising the children or teaching the class. Our staff are more than happy to talk to you at a time that is suitable to both parties and affords enough time to discuss any issues that you might have. We do understand if the issues are urgent. If this is the case please see the office staff so that they can communicate this urgent information to your child’s class teacher.

2018 Parent Volunteers – WWCC Declaration

We are very appreciative of all our parent volunteers in the classrooms and around the school. Please ensure you have completed a WWCC Declaration for volunteers and contractors (Appendix 5) at the school office. You will also need to complete the Proof of Identity that meets the 100-point check. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have previously completed this in 2017, you will not need to do so again this year.

CANTEEN:

Our school canteen operates each week on a Wednesday and Thursday.

The canteen will be open on Wednesday 14th then fully operation both day from Week 4, Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st February.

MAJOR CAPITAL WORKS

Many of you will be aware that in 2017 funding was announced for major capital to address the crowded accommodation needs for students and staff at WRPS.

The Project Reference Group will be holding another information booth at the school on the “Meet the Teacher Evening and Welcome BBQ” on February 22nd February. Please make some time to speak to them about the building work.

Thanks to all our Chicken Minders

We returned from school holidays with staff and students refreshed from their break … and chickens well cared for. I would like to offer a big thanks to the parents who helped look after our ‘lovely ladies’ during the long holiday period: Preeti, Reny, Rochelle, Vaibhav and Ivy, who along with their children would provide fresh food and water each day to the chooks.

From the tales I have been told the parents and the children really enjoyed interacting with the chooks and are no longer scared of them (well some of the parents may still be).

Below we see Louie discovering that if you feed chickens cacao beans and aluminium scraps you really can get them to lay foil wrapped chocolate eggs! Who would have believed it? And Reny, Rudi, Louie and Liam with their extended family.

Thank you,

Mr Logan, Crispy, Sunday, Robin, Jet and Gingerbread.
