The death occurred earlier this week. Nineteen lab-confirmed cases have been re- ported in the health district as of June 9th. Three counties: Dundy, Hayes and Perkins have no reported cases, one case in each of Chase, Frontier and Hitchcock, two cases in Keith, five in Red Willow and nine cases in Furnas County. Three testing events will take place this week starting to- day in McCook through Test Nebraska. They move on to Imperial tomor- row and Ogallala on Friday. There is no cost to be tested at these sites. Residents interested in participating should complete the online sur- vey at testnebraska.com/en or in Spanish at testnebraska.com/es . When the survey is completed 6 days or less before the event, they will be given an option to schedule their appointment and given a QR code which can be saved on their mobile phone or printed. They will need to show this code at the test site, along with an ID and proof of current ad- dress. FURNAS COUNTY FAIR For health and safety reasons, the Furnas County Agricultural Society Board of Directors has decided to postpone the Furnas County Fair Ro- deo, Demolition Derby and Concert to next year. The Board said there were many factors outside of the health parameters that played into the decision as well. Among them was that many of their sponsors are suffer- ing to due how COVID-19 has affected aspects of the economy. It would have been a struggle for some to support those events in the same fash- ion as they have in prior years, according to the Ag Society’s news re- lease. Casey Donahue and Whiskey Bent are rescheduled for the fair in July 2021. Tickets already purchased will be good for next year‘s con- cert on July 16, 2021. While the entertainment has been postponed, Ne- braska Extension and the local 4-H/FFA programs will be held this year. They will still recognize the accomplishments of the 4-H and FFA youth in Furnas County. MEDICAL MARIJUANA ADOPT, a broad coalition of Nebraskans who support access to medical cannabis, announced today that it has delivered nearly 50,000 vali- dated petition signatures to its petition ally, Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana (NMM). The signatures were collected by ADOPT this spring. When ADOPT’s efforts are added to NMM’s existing total of more than 10,000 validated signatures, the petition effort is over halfway to the more than 120,000 signatures needed for the Nebraska Secretary of State to place this constitutional amendment initiative petition on the Nov. 3 General Election ballot. “We are proud of our success in gathering tens of thousands of petition signatures in support of letting Nebraska vote on legalizing medical marijuana,” said ADOPT spokesperson Michael J. O’Hara. “Despite the great obstacles of the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing, civil unrest and curfews, our petition gatherers did a super job. Clearly, the people of Nebraska want to vote on this important health care issue.” Utilizing paid and volunteer gatherers, ADOPT began collecting signatures in early March and promptly was forced to suspend collection operations after the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in state and local executive orders closing many public and private venues for health reasons.
