You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You

when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

As the staff sat in the Staffroom last Wednesday morning participating in our morning devotions in preparation for the students to return I could not help notice a beautiful sound soon after 8:30am that wafted through into the staffroom through the closed windows – the sound of happy children as they came back to school and caught up with their friends in the playground. This was very closely followed by the squawking of the plovers that have set up home in the playground as they were disturbed by the children, but this was not as clear as the beautiful sound of the children. Mrs Morton commented about the same sounds after devotions finished. It brought to mind the passage in Psalm 139 where David speaks of being fearfully and wonderfully made; how God knew his coming and goings, how God knew his very thoughts and every word he would speak: that God knew him before he was conceived and planned every day of his life. What a wonderful picture to consider and what a wonderful encouragement to us as we work together to raise these precious beings to bring glory to God.

The term has started well, with some exciting things planned throughout the term, including our Country Fair this Saturday afternoon. I would encourage you all as part of our community to come along in the afternoon/evening (3pm to 7pm) and celebrate our community at our first ever Spring Country Fair (due to our autumn fair being washed out early this year). Our wonderful band of organisers have worked hard to

make the afternoon a real success, so please come along, support them where you can and enjoy the evening together. Funds raised from the Fair will be used to construct more shade in the playground.

Thank you: The end of term three brought about the end of our sausage sizzles for another year. Thank you to our wonderful band of Mums: Sue Moore, Nicole Tate and Sharron Chittick who have once again faithfully served our community in this way throughout the last two terms. Thank you ladies!

the secondary students who were presented with awards at Monday’s assembly for the writing competition that was a part of the English programme for third term. This is an important part of our English programme and I enjoyed reading a number of the writing pieces – they were excellent – well done to all concerned – see report later in TT.

Benjamin Cornford (8 Years) and Courtney Smith (10 Years) who were awarded their age champion pennants from the Zone Athletics carnival at the assembly on Monday – well done on using your talents in this way and excelling at this level.

our Year 12 students as they have commenced their HSC examinations this week – 4 exams down as I write this. Please continue to pray for the students as some are struggling with health issues and the exams bring their own pressures.

Remember to pray for our Year 12 students who began their HSC exams this week on Monday.

Pray for good preparation, good rest and peace in the knowledge that God is in control.

Give thanks for the wonderful time of fun, friendship and hard work at the Working Bee on

Saturday as the grounds were cleared and prepared for the Country Fair.

Continue to pray for the School Board as they go through the selection process for the Executive

Principal and the Tongarra Campus Principal. Pray that the right people for the job will be raised

up.

Pray for servant hearts for our school community as we all work together to make the Country Fair

a success. Pray that things will run smoothly, that all our volunteers will be encouraged, that our

students, families and visitors will have a wonderful time and that we will be blessed with a

successful event.

Pray for good weather for our Fair and for a fantastic attendance rate. Pray that everyone will be

kept safe and that it will be a super fun day!

Pray for all those who are busy organising last minute details for the fair. Pray for patience and

perseverance and pray that they might be encouraged in their labours. Give thanks for all the hard

work that has gone into organising the fair.

Pray for our administration staff who also face a very busy time in the weeks ahead.

Active After School Sport

Wednesday Afternoons

Learn to Surf For After School Sport Attention for those who do AASC

ICS Tongarra will again be running the AASC Sports program for all Primary students. However, this term we will be running the program off site at Killalea Beach reserve, “The Farm”. The activity will be learning to surf and will be run under the care of Pines Surfing Academy. They include experienced and fully qualified trainers who specialise in giving children quality surf management and tuition. Parents are required to take them to the beach and bring them home.

Important Note: Places are limited and will be given to those who are more confident and capable in the water. Parental presence is encouraged during the full session.

The program details are: Meet at Killalea Beach at the designated and marked spot at 4:30pm sharp Program will conclude at same spot at 5:30pm sharp Incorporates a structured and staged surfing lesson Runs weekly on Wednesdays for 7 weeks (Wed 22 Oct - Wed 3 Dec) Caters for appropriate ages, stages and skill levels Each session is weather permitting and may be made up for later

Plan Your Own Enterprise

Competition

Congratulations to Year 11 Business Studies students and entrepreneurs Natalie

Cunzolo and Kiarnay Smith! They are both finalists in the NSW Division of the CPA

Australia 2014 EBE Plan Your Own Enterprise Competition, having worked diligently

throughout Term 3 to understand marketing, finance and accounting concepts, and

then finalising a detailed Business Plan.

Natalie’s Business is “Dance Xpress”, a mobile dance service

that provides classes and opportunities to individuals of all

age, ability and style.

Kiarnay’s Business is “Jungle Designs”, an outlet where

customers can purchase original one-of-a-kind prints or

merchandise, as well as ordering custom prints.

Natalie and Kiarnay will attend the awards ceremony in Sydney

on Monday 20th

October where they will give a short speech outlining their Business

Plans.

Year 10 Fiji Service Trip

21st - 30th November 2014

During our visit to Fiji we will be visiting an orphanage and a local school in a village. It will be an exciting time to share with the children. We would love to take school supplies, small toys and clothing that will fit into our suitcases. If you are able to make a donation of a toy, any school supplies or clothing for children that would be very much appreciated.

If you can help in any way please leave the donation at the school office or pass on to a Year 10 student.

UNWANTED PHONES

MobileMuster helps conserve limited resources. Through the recycling process 96%

of the materials in mobiles and accessories are recovered and used to make new

products locally and overseas. Recovering these materials by recycling avoids the

need to mine non-renewable resources, thus conserving our resources, and avoiding

air and water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

MobileMuster is funded solely by the mobile phone industry in Australia. It is the

industry’s official recycling program and is paid for voluntarily by the companies

who make and sell mobiles in Australia. It does not receive any government

funding.

MobileMuster is a not-for-profit program. Any revenue generated from recycling

materials is invested back into the Australian community through our schools

program (MusterKids), local council community environmental and social activities

and contributions to the Salvos Stores.

Tuesday 16th September 2014

The Prep children were involved in a culturally rich experience on the afternoon of Tuesday 16th

September when Bronwyn Vaughan, a talented storyteller, shared some of her favourite stories from

Spain with us. She told the stories, “The Bachelor Bean”, “Chato’s Kitchen” and “Ferdinand”

through music, dancing, puppetry and drama. The children were very engaged with her

performance, clapping rhythms, imitating actions, counting, and dancing with Bronwyn. She even

taught them to shout Ole at the end of the dance and to say Adios Amigos which is goodbye friends

in Spanish. At the end of her performance Bronwyn spent time showing the children how her props

work and talking about the instruments that she played.

CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION 2014 Last term, each of the Year 7 to Year 10 students completed a piece of creative writing with the guidance of their English teachers and other support staff. The English faculty was thoroughly entertained with the wide variety of perspectives students took on each of the topics. It was encouraging to see a large majority of students wrangling with different perspectives on life, taking time to develop their plots and heightening their awareness of their senses. After careful consideration of the responses and the provided criteria, and recognising our desire to award the creativity and diligence of the students, the following students received the nominated awards:

A Stage 5 debating workshop was held at Tongarra in Week 10 of Term 3 and was well attended by students. As Tongarra is new to Debating, the day was spent learning the basics of what's, why's and how's of debating. Many of the attending students have already proven themselves capable public speakers and brought the same excellence to the debating forum. A practice debate was held and successfully showcased their newly acquired skills and knowledge. This was an exciting day that proved that Tongarra is ready and able to debate in formal competitions next year.

A formal (though friendly) debate has since been organised with Shellharbour Anglican College and select students will take part in this next week.

It will be a work in progress as a formal debate is not an easy thing, but the calibre and enthusiasm of stu-dents shows great promise.

Tongarra Chess Club

The Tongarra Chess Club has been growing

in number and enthusiasm through Term 3 of

2014. It has included both Primary and

Secondary students. The term culminated in

the addition of Chess into the City vs

Country (Cordeaux vs Tongarra) sports

day. This was a highly successful inclusion

and both Primary and Secondary sections

had teams of 12 playing throughout the

day. The day was enjoyed by all and the

quality of the games were very high. There

are some very talented players at Tongarra.

Unfortunately Cordeaux came away with a win in terms of number of games won

on the day and were humble in victory. They were a great opposition and the

games were played with a positive attitude and in good spirits. A rematch with

Cordeaux is already in the planning.

If you are keen to join the chess club; we meet in the Learning Hub during first

break each Friday of the School term. Hope to see you there.

ART SMART is an introductory course for primary school children who want to improve their artistic skills through a range of fun and stimulating exercises. Lessons are taught by our specialist primary school art teacher and range across various art practices and mediums.
