{ EXPERTS WANTED } WORK WITH THE RINGEach year, The Wedding Ring is honouored to work with some of the most unique and talented experts in Southwestern Ontario, helping these professionals grow their wedding industry businesses. In that effort, we operate on the proven theory that Content is Queen!

At The Ring, we research, create and curate quality, need-to-know, wedding-changing, life-saving content, year-round, alongside our clients. We then deliver it all in print (The Wedding Ring Magazine) and online (www.TheWeddingRing.ca) to a geographically targeted bride and groom audience. As a result, our clients book more weddings and our bride and groom members find it easier to plan the ultimate local wedding. And on the odd chance you ever find Jenn, Anne, Kristen and the team at The Ring more than a few feet away from their wifi connections, it’s likely because you’re at one of The Ring’s Wedding Expo events which take place seasonally in Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Brantford, Newmarket, Cambridge, Paris and various other areas across Ontario. Couture bridal shows filled with over the top exhibits, live design palettes, and many, many engaged couples.

If you’re a wedding professional who offers products that every bride should have, rais-es the bar on service and rewrites the definition of couture, we’d love to work with you - online, in print, and/or in person. The Wedding Ring will help you reach your target brides, share (and show off) your expertise, grow your business and make headlines.

1. A limo FULL of referrals from other wedding

specialists (theweddingring.ca) and delighted

past clients.

2. A company that delivers more than just

transportation. You aren’t looking for a

designated driver, you’re looking for a full

experience.

3. Professional, experienced chauffeurs who are

trained on wedding transportation and who

have a thorough knowledge of the area and

your wedding locations.

4. A risk-free guarantee for both their

chauffeured service and vehicles (no company

has perfect employees or perfect mechanical

equipment). True professionals know how

to deal with the many mistakes or mishaps as

opposed to hiding them.

5. The highest quality fleet of current style

limousines are a must-have. Even further,

they need to be properly maintained, fully

licensed and properly insured with commercial

insurance that is available to view before

booking.

6. A full consultation on all transportation-

related details specific to your requirements

eg. Timing, route planning, utilization of the

vehicle and additional amenities or decorations.

7. A contract (date of service, time of service,

pick up location, with minimum of at least

the city of the wedding, vehicle type & size to

accommodate your group) and receipt or proof

of purchase for both the deposit and final

payments.

8. Exclusive service with the option to

customize your package specifics (such as

timing, decorations and multiple locations for

picture locations).

that has been in operation since 1990. It

is one of the largest limousine companies

found here in K-W and (unlike many

large companies) is equally as personable.

Brent, and his team always greet you with

a smile. Brent is dedicated to Brentwood’s

long-time legacy of focusing on how

you will feel when you arrive at your

The fifteen or so photographers that make up the large Latte Productions team capture about 175 weddings combined each year. It’s a number that very few wedding photography studios in Ontario reach. And one thing that this many weddings have taught Latte owner, Justin, and his team, is that engagement shoots are critical.

Here’s why...• Engagement sessions are usually awkward at first, especially if this is your first real exposure to professional lifestyle photography. It’s better to learn the ropes and get comfortable during your e-session than to try to do so on your wedding day. The e-shoot is a prime opportunity to make accommodations for your own personal style. For example, if you’re not comfortable with public displays of affection, that’s okay! There are other equally great ways to highlight true affection without pushing you out of your comfort zone. • Latte’s photographers take a casual approach to direction and posing. This is about forgetting traditional poses and stiff mannequin style positioning, and instead, embracing who you

really are in front of the lens. Latte’s shooters often put themselves in your place to help show how you look natural. This also helps everyone appreciate that we’ve all got our quirks, and it’s about highlighting the authentic, unique you, letting people see you for who you really are.• Since Latte delivers all images (not just their select favourites), you’ll have plenty to choose from. • Engagement sessions build trust, confidence, and show Latte couples that they can in fact have the lovely photos they desire without having to be anyone other than themselves. This translates to a more casual and realistic expectation for the big day.• Many Latte couples have children or pets, providing the team with the ability to further customize the lifestyle shoot by incorporating a family element into some of the experience.• Latte couples get their engagement photos back within days to a week of the shoot, further building the trust between client and photographer. • Couples who opt out of doing engagement

sessions often approach the wedding day with a certain pessimism or worry about what to do for the camera, unaware that it is the photographer that will find the best angles and methods to generate stunning outcomes. Doing an engagement session takes the wedding day photography off the pedestal and places a more realistic expectation on both couple and photographer, achieving more unique outcomes and more natural moments.• Since the engagement photos are often the last collection of photos the couple has had before the wedding day itself, they often get used on guest signing books, Save The Dates, seating charts, slide shows, as part of centrepieces or table numbers displays, and more.GOOD TO KNOW: Latte Productions includes a free engagement session in each wedding package. Since Latte is a full time operation, they can accommodate most daytime or evening e-session times, catering to the couples unique schedules. Couples are encouraged to book one to two weeks out from the intended e-session date so that they are more aware of work schedules, social calendars, expected weather, and that the chosen site looks the way they anticipate it. ■

PARIS FAIRGROUNDS | SPECIAL EVENTS BUILDING & EXHIBITION HALL

The Special Events Building at Paris Fairgrounds (parisfair.ca) is ordinarily

used for community events, auctions, Stag & Doe’s, and the annual Paris

Fair. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be transformed into a gorgeous wedding

reception space!

Cindy Hefferan, owner and decorator at Now and Always Wedding and

Special Event Décor (♥) (nowandalways.ca) in Paris, Ontario shows us that

any space can be made over to look incredible, if you do it right. “All it takes

is a little imagination [and some serious decorating talent] to make any venue

the ideal venue for your wedding,” she explains.

Here, [images, left], you can see how Cindy uses grand white ceiling

treatments, lighting, linens, tall centrepieces, chair covers & theme-matching

sashes, have taken the Special Events Building from a wedding option to one

gorgeous rural wedding venue.

The Exhibition Hall at Paris Fairgrounds is essentially one huge open space for

countless community and fair events. But for a wedding, it doesn’t work as is.

Here. [images, below], Cindy takes advantage of the soaring ceiling by

hanging a multitude of large flower balls. A large backdrop lines one wall,

filled with rustic and glam features, such as weathered doors and chandeliers.

With the principle colour being white, Cindy ties in the bride and groom’s

colour palette with lavender fabrics in tables, backdrops, in chair table sashes.

So with plenty of parking, tons of square footage, budget-friendly pricing and

an ultra helpful staff on site, Paris Fairgrounds checks all the boxes. And with

a decorator like Now and Always Wedding and Special Event Décor (♥), your

design palette options are truly limitless. ■

Location can be everything, when it comes to planning

your dream wedding, but in many cases, it’s easier to find

a wedding venue location (banquet hall, ballroom, hall,

legion, private estate, barn, community centre or otherwise)

that checks all the must-have boxes (fits your wedding size,

budget, and availability), than it is to find one that looks

the way you’re dreaming. But with great vision, you can

make just about any venue perfect for your wedding.

VALUEIt’s okay if price is one of the first things you look at, but be sure to do your research. Finding a DJ with a low price but no experience may be more of a risk than a deal. Choosing a DJ with more experience under their belt may be worth the higher price tag especially if your reception music and dance party is very important to you.

EXPERIENCEYou don’t need to pick a DJ that has decades of experience, but you also don’t want your special day to be your DJs first wedding. Experienced DJs will have a better concept of timelines and have the ability to read the dance floor to better choose music for your wedding. They will also have relationships with other individuals in the industry such as venues and photographers. These pre-established relationships may help your day run smoother meaning less stress for you.

TRADE TOOLS: EQUIPMENT, MUSIC LIBRARY, INSURANCE, LICENSINGEquipment | Professional DJs own the equipment they will be using resulting in them having a lot of experience with it. When a DJ relies on renting equipment there is a higher risk of problems occurring which could disrupt for your wedding ceremony and reception. With a proper DJ you know they will arrive with the right equipment to suit your needs and your venue space. Be sure to ask your DJ what they plan on using on your special day so you know they will not just show up with an iPod and a small set of speakers. Music Library | Though it is impossible to have EVERY single song, your DJ should have a wide selection of music in their library. Professional DJs will also make sure that all the music they have is licensed and properly censored. They will also be able to provide assistance in choosing songs for special moments during your wedding.

Insurance | Your DJ should have insurance coverage and liability; you never know what can happen! Having an insured DJ protects you from added expenses due to damaged equipment.

PASSION AND CUSTOMER APPRECIATIONDJs who love what they do are dedicated to their work and are constantly trying to improve and expand their skills of the craft. Always try to meet with your DJ in person for a consultation prior to booking; this will allow you to see their personalities and passion for what they do in a way that phone calls and emails are unable to do. The manner in which your DJ communicates with you matters as well. If they are taking 2-3 days to respond to your initial inquiry it may show that their correspondence with their clients isn’t a priority to them. The lack of quick response time may become frustrating for you as your wedding day approaches and you need answers quickly.

HOW THEY WILL APPROACH “YOUR WEDDING” AND MAKE IT ABOUT YOUEntertainment is one of the biggest parts of a wedding reception. When you have a DJ who cares and knows details about the couple they are working for gives them the ability to add little touches to the reception. From remembering that the groom was a part of a boy band tribute group and playing Backstreet Boys so he can perform an old dance routine to playing the first dance song from the brides’ parents wedding 30 years ago. These small details can help personalize your wedding day even more! While we are professionals, we are here to guide and suggest not to dictate! No DJ or any other vendor should be telling you how things should go. This is your big day and you should have a say in every aspect of it. A good DJ will be there to help and to accommodate your specific needs and personalize aspects to suit your wedding. A DJ company that offers a photo booth would be able to customize a design template to match your theme and colour scheme. They can also create a custom playlist for your cocktail hour and dinner to match your theme or to represent your cultural background. If you are considering a DJ company, but they are unwilling or unable to accommodate your ideas it may be a sign to look elsewhere. ■ ABOUT L.O.V.E: L.O.V.E Wedding & Music Services is a family run business established in 2013. 1. (Previous Page) This glam, romantic, vintage décor vignette, which was created for a FRESH LOOK DESIGN (FLD) (♥) (freshlookdesign.ca) event, and is absolutely one of our favourite things. Created for an FLD client’s guest signing table. Rental props in blush, gold and white colours, mixed with vintage crates and birdcage candle holders bring it all together. All rental items found at FLD.

2. This gorgeous décor set was created for an FLD wedding at the Oliver Bonacini at the Blue Mountain (oliverbonacini.com/Blue-Mountain) resort. The wedding had a vintage glam feel, accented by the chevron sequence (gold zig zagged pattern on the linen) and then taken to the next level with a LOVE marquee sign.

3. This white on white palette was created for a wedding at The Slit Barn (theslitbarn.com). The head table is absolutely gorgeous thanks to FLD’s crystal tufted bride and groom chairs.

4. We love this simple, sheer backdrop, lit with

FLD’s white globe lights strung loosely across the fabric, providing a romantic feel. This image was captured by ANNE EDGAR PHOTOGRAPHY (♥) (anneedgarphoto.com) at an FLD wedding at WHISTLE BEAR GOLF CLUB (♥) (whistlebear.ca).

5. We love the fact that you can create conversation areas through the rental of gorgeous, modern sets like this one, found at FLD.

6. Sweets tables are another favourite reception option that guests LOVE. Everything in this display was created for an FLD wedding at CAMBRIDGE MILL (♥) (cambridgemill.ca) in summer 2015.

7. How gorgeous is this delicate silky uplit backdrop in pastels, designed for a wedding at THE SLIT BARN (theslitbarn.com). This is FLD’s ribbon backdrop, draped in a champagne sheer with their rustic rental wine barrels and crates on either side to frame the ceremony space. We also like this look for a more sophisticated photo booth backdrop.

8. This antique ladder can be used as a décor vignette, accessories with fun, rustic and modern pieces, all found at FLD.

9. The use of vintage suitcases in décor is fabulous. In this case, the suitcase, vases, burlap accents, and an old wine bottle all work together to takes the cake table a new level of pretty! All items (except cake) found at FLD.

10. Hanging FLD’s gorgeous chandeliers and globe lights from the ceiling of a rustic barn completely transforms the look and elegance of the space.

11. Lanterns in various sizes will always be a favourite way to accent any indoor or outdoor space. Huge pillar candles are absolutely romantic.

12. We love the fact that any couple can achieve that celebrity caliber décor through the rentals such as the antique china dinnerware, apothecary bottles and more, found at FRESH LOOK DESIGN (♥) (freshlookdesign.ca). This photo was taken by DEVONCPHOTOGRAPHY (devoncphotography.com). ■

expert tips

Page 22: Wedding Design Palette Issue | The Wedding Ring Magazine ONTARIO Fall/Winter 2015

Over the past few years, DJ Alpha has noticed a shift from tradition and formality (that were, quite frankly, outdated and boring) to an atmosphere of celebration. The wedding is less of a “necessity” and more of an event, making today an exciting time for a couple to get married! Your entire wedding can be personalized, and vendors everywhere are bringing ideas to the table to help make your day completely original!

‘Back in the day’ when DJ Alpha played exclusively at nightclubs, we did everything we could to avoid playing a wedding. We had been to weddings as kids and found them to be stuffy and boring. But today’s weddings have ditched the receiving lines, cheesy videography styles, and stale photography approach. Now, they’re about personalization, style, rock star videos, authentic candid photos, and most importantly, unforgettable parties!! And that is where we come in!

Thankfully, modern couples often consider the entertainment as a top priority. Most of our clients name the entertainment in the top three of their reception priorities.

A great example of shedding tradition is to customize a dinner playlist. For many couples, putting together a list of truly loved music, is an undiscovered area of the wedding. As an example, we played a wedding a couple years ago for a couple that loved 90s rock – but we all agreed it’s hard to keep a dance floor going for four hours playing only that genre. Instead, we put together a customized playlist of all “unplugged or acoustic” versions of their favorites, and played that over cocktails and dinner. It was a hit with the guests!

In the past two years, we’ve had a number of couples do away with the garter and bouquet tosses as well. For brides who do want to share their bouquet, we suggest a presentation, where a bride can chose the person they want to have it, and present it to them in a brief moment (contact us to find out more about this).

One of the biggest differences between then and now, is likely the timing of the first dance. Traditionally, the first dance occurred directly after the couple concludes their speech. It was a way to kick off the reception. More and more, we are finding couples choosing to do it immediately upon entering the reception. This helps to relieve any potential stage fright the couple might be battling throughout dinner, because it’s all done at that point. As well, photographers tend to appreciate it, since they’re able to get those dance shots with natural lighting instead of flash.

Lastly, the most notable trend shift we’ve seen is the near death of the “iPod DJ.” There were a few scary years there where couples were taking this risk. Sometimes it worked out okay, but ask yourself this: have you ever been to an Ipod wedding and left thinking ‘Wow, that was such a great mix of music’? We haven’t either. DJ Alpha understands the appeal of cutting back your wedding budget, but we find that most couples aren’t willing to risk the last five hours of their wedding to anything but an experienced professional.

Today’s couples are looking for a DJ company who prides themselves on their work. At DJ Alpha we take the time to learn our craft. We consider it an art. We mix and blend our songs together all night long, so that the party doesn’t stop. Whether it’s

new Top 40s, classic throwbacks or a great 90’s set, we are mixing it all together to make sure your feet hurt the next morning – a full dance floor is one of our top priorities. ■

ABOUT DJ ALPHA PRODUCTIONSDJ Alpha is a team of 14 wildly passionate DJs who play weddings, nightclubs, schools and parties. This gorgeous rustic design palette was created by the talented designers at Village Vines Florists (villagevinesflorists.com) in Exeter, Ontario for The

Ring’s Wedding Expo in London (theweddingring.ca/wedding-expo-london/), Winter 2015.

Vintage blue glass bottles, gold charger plates and tall brushed gold vintage style vases, white roses and blush coloured orchids, all of which, when used

together, create this exquisite, wedding décor to die for. Blown glass globes (also available at Wedsy.ca) are filled with votive candles and blooms in a

mix of ivory and blush colours, and then hung from tall statement centrepieces.

The long, farm style table is one of our favourite features in this palette. It mingles perfectly with the wood chivari chairs, dark sparkly table runner, and

multitude of glass, water and candlelight.

Sweet Décor DESIGN PALETTE WITH THE CAKE ENGINEER

Through her creative wedding cakes and cupcakes, Mary Faustino, owner of The Cake Engineer (thecakeengineer.ca), plays a big role in the design and theme of many wedding receptions each year. She says that multiple factors determine whether the cake will help the reception pop or not - design, colour, texture, size, style, and of course, taste.

Mary says today’s couples are looking for real ingredients. “I use real buttercream, made with real sugar, egg whites and butter. It doesn’t feel gritty, its light and smooth.” So when she refers to strawberry buttercream, it’s from-scratch buttercream with real strawberries in it. “And when I say chocolate, it’s made using melted Belgian milk chocolate.”

Rustic wedding themes are hot right now, and Mary doesn’t see that

changing anytime soon. As far as design, she says “Rustic designs usually involve some version of textured buttercream on the outside [photo, top, far left].” And for many couples, simple is better. “Simple usually means white fondant with a pop of wedding design through the use of a coloured ribbon [photos above, middle and right, below left and right] or delicate or sugar flowers dusted [photos, above middle, below middle]to match the wedding.”

Another trend, shown below left, is the cupcake tower. These involve the use of adorable, tasty cupcakes displayed on multple layers, with a simple cutting cake (so you still have the traditional cake cutting photo op!) on top. Mary explains, “Cupcakes are easier for your guests to take, and they can be eaten throughout the night.” Mary offers cupcake liners that match her couples’ colour palettes. ■

DÉCOR: Now & Always Special Event & Wedding Décor (♥)(nowandalways.ca). FLORALS: Brantford Blooms (brantfordblooms.com)VENUE: Century old Barn in rural Ontario, shown on this page and page, leftTHEME: Rustic Vintage

In this design palette, we feature incredible rustic, vintage décor tablescapes created by Cindy of Now And Always. These palettes are designed within an authentic barn that she transformed into a drop dead gorgeous reception space.

The rustic part of this palette is primarily brought into the design through the use of a century old barn for a reception space. This meant gorgeous wide plank floors and soaring wood ceilings. Vintage elements include the age of the barn, blush overlays, pearl napkin rings and lace accents that remind you of early 20th century garden parties.

More rustic design elements that are hot right now are the use of chalkboards, frames and old weathered doors (seen in head table backdrop), slices of tree stumps used in centrepieces, mason jars used as flower vases (in ceremonies and on reception guest tables), and white wooden garden chairs for guests of your outdoor ceremony.Cindy says the use of burlap fabrics, wrought iron lanterns, the use of an abundace of fresh wild flowers and greens, and strands of vintage style globe lights, are also a great touch to a rustic design palette. For blooms, vintage garden party brings to mind peonies and hydrangea, vintage plates, pastel colours. ■

BRIDE & GROOM: Jennifer & Nigel SampsonCEREMONY & RECEPTION LOCATIONS: Hessenland Country Inn (♥) (hessenland.com)DESIGN PALETTE: Colours were cobalt blue and white, and Jennifer & Nigel say the wedding theme was inspired by their incredible location. “The Hessenland gardens are beautiful and simple...and the Coach House reception room is a converted barn with beautiful wood and stone feautures...simple and elegant!” Jennifer & Nigel kept the table settings simple, with only white table clothes with a cobalt blue runner and white chair covers. “We added touches of elegance

with tall vases with votive candles and soft

lighting; the flower theme was simple garden

bouquet and my dress was a beaded A-line

with a sweetheart neckline.”

PHOTOGRAPHY: Captured Soul Photography

was not only an amazing, fun photographer on

the day of our wedding, but she was amazing

to work with afterwards while we were waiting

for our photos to arrive. She truly loves what

does and always puts the client first.”

FAVOURITE ELEMENT: “The Coach House

reception room itself was just beautiful.”

FLOWERS: Blue and white hydrangeas, white

roses (full and mini) for the bride. All white

for the bridesmaids.

FAVOURITE MEMORIES: “Everything :) We

had the most amazing venue, photographer,

cupcakes, décor and to top it all off we were

surrounded by all of the family and friends that were important to us as we celebrated our love and starting our lives as husband and wife.” BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “Planning from New Zealand! Lots and lots of emailing and trust in the vendors we selected.”CUPCAKES: Razzle Dazzle Cupcakes (razzledazzlecupcakes.com). “Great choice of flavours and taste amazing! We had vanilla skor, chocolate mint and chocolate chip banana.”

ADVICE, ONE BRIDE TO ANOTHER: “Sometimes you just need to go with your gut! We made sure everything was what we wanted rather than trying to cater to others. Know what you are willing to spend more on and what you are willing to let slide! Most important, have FUN! We planned our wedding from New Zealand so if I can do it anyone can!”

Jennifer & Nigel planned a destination wedding on Ontario’s West Coast, handling every detail by email from their home in New Zealand. The result was the perfect day, shared with family and friends.

FAVOURITE PARTS: Cake topper, ceiling décor & vendors! “We were very happy with using the Bingemans (♥) (bingemans.com) ‘Vendor Package’ - they had great vendors who were all easy to deal with very polite and extremely helpful. Bingemans also had great food and excellent service throughout our entire journey with them. We never felt neglected or stressed out about anything. Tiffany was always helpful and friendly whenever we met to discuss the details of the big day.

DÉCOR: Lori from Decorating Dreams (♥) (decoratingdreams.ca) did the décor, which included a ceiling canopy, table runners, chair covers with sashes, head table backdrop with lights and extra drapery on the front of the table. “She was amazing to work with! When we asked her about adding different colours to our décor as well as the canopy she almost fell out of her chair with excitement! She was so happy that we were asking her to get creative with our colours and so were we when we saw the completed setup.”

The pictures he took were amazing! He provided us with a variety of shots in different effects and returned our pictures to us in a very timely manner. He was always friendly and outgoing while still being

professional during our meetings. We were very happy with all of our photos and appreciate the time and effort that Alex put into our wedding!” DJ: Olympic Sound (♥) (olympicsound.com) “Jasmyn and Neil were great to work with. Anytime we had questions about our playlist Jasmyn was quick to respond. Neil kept the music at a nice level for dinner when people were talking at the tables and then turned it up for the party afterwards and kept everyone on the dance floor.” FLOWERS: Pink Poppi (pinkpoppi.ca) “I wanted the colours to be purple and white and so she chose a variety of types of flowers in these colours” TRANSPORTATION: Brentwood Livery (♥) (brentwoodlivery.ca) “We would just like to

mention how professional and friendly the people at Brentwood were. Their limo service was excellent as was our chauffeur, Tom.” CAKE: The Cake Tutor (thecaketutor.com). “Lori was amazing. Laura and I both do martial arts and we asked Lori if she could incorporate that into the cake toppers… We sent her a picture of us in our uniforms and she absolutely nailed it! We were getting tons of complements all night about that.” DIY ELEMENTS: “We made the table numbers by putting pictures of ourselves at that age and gluing them onto a background. We also made the centerpieces, which were 3 cylinder vases with water, some decorative stones and a flower on top. There was a candle in the middle of the vases, which were all on a mirror tile. Our favors were homemade desserts wrapped in decorative boxes.”

Lindsay & Everett used every feature of Elm Hurst Inn for their wedding - the luxe rooms for over-night accomodations and getting ready on the day of, the grounds for their secret garden in-spired photoshoots, the architecture for a beauti-ful backdrop to the entire event, and the gorgeous Grand Ballroom for both the ceremony (which was moved inside due to rain) and reception. THEME INSPIRATION: I’ve always thought that nature is one of the most beautiful things and we definitely wanted to bring that beauty into our wedding.

BUDGET: We spent the most on the venue and food. We spent the least on our cake. My amazing friend Stephanie at Bright Eyes Bakery (brighteyes-bakery.ca) (London, ON) generously made our cake as a wedding gift. It turned out more beauti-ful (and delicious!) than we could have imagined!

CHOOSING BLOOMS: “Village Vines does amazing work! We used peonies and garden roses in shades of blush and ivory, as well as accents of succulents, dusty miller and seeded eucalyptus to add a beautiful soft green colour to the bouquets. They carried the look of the bouquets into the rest of the floral décor, adding lush greens and white hydrangeas as well...we decided to carry out the garden theme using lanterns, candles, moss, small tree stumps and antique vases, tied all together with lots of florals and greenery. We also used a fabulous matte ivory sequin table cloth for the head table that added a small touch of luxury to the room. DIY: “I’m not the best at DIY projects but luckily I’m surrounded by family and friends that are. My very crafty bridesmaid Laura hand cut our initials out of a large piece of plywood and painted and covered them in moss using a glue gun. It turned out absolutely amazing and was displayed front

and centre in the reception room. My mom cre-ated a beautiful seating arrangement using a large rustic framed mirror and hand-writing the seating arrangement directly on the mirror using a white paint pen. It turned out perfectly!” ADVICE, ONE BRIDE TO ANOTHER: “Take things one step at a time so you don’t feel overwhelmed in the planning process... We tried to add as many personal touches into our wedding as possible. For example, our table numbers were years with corresponding pictures of Everett and I in that particular year. The years were beautifully sandblasted into hand cut glass by Everett`s mom Barb. We also wanted to tie in Everett`s love of baseball into our wedding as well. We had small elements of baseball here in there that turned out very tasteful, such as a home plate with a mono-grammed M on it as guest book, personalized baseball bats as gifts for the groomsmen, and (my favourite) a baseball themed program.”

We’re starting to see a lot more mixed metals incorporated into design palettes which we love! Delicate laces are still hot, giving Weddings a traditional feel. GLORIA & BEN turned their ROSEVILLE ESTATES (rosevilleestate.com) wedding into a magical day with

activities and gathering spaces for everyone invited. From a whimsical ceremony under the trees, to poolside cocktails and marquee dining this wedding truly

had a little bit of everything.”

THE BRIDE’S VISION: A magical wedding environment that feels like you’ve just stepped onto the set of a Midsummer Night’s Dream. “I wanted guests to have different areas of the property to enjoy - the s’mores bonfire, lawn games area, photo booth, relaxing space by the pool, seating by the pond, a dance floor beneath the stars, and a party in the tent.” Each age group had an area of activities to enjoy. Gloria remembers being at weddings where everyone was under one very loud tent, “and sometimes people just needed a break from the partying... In our wedding photos, I can see that everyone found a place on the property that fit their mood, whether it was dancing up a storm or relaxing by the pool catching up with family and friends. It made me happy to see everyone having such a good time.”

Crystal Adair-Benning, Owner and Lead Coordinator of luxe wedding planning company, Distinct Occasions, admits she absolutely fell in love with this wedding and this couple. “I adored working with Gloria & Ben on their whimsical Roseville wedding. Gloria knew EXACTLY what she wanted and really wanted to be involved. You could literally feel the love on their big day and my team was just so thrilled to be a part of it!”

BRIDE & GROOM: Emily & Colton Bauman

WEDDING DATE: June 6th, 2015

NO. GUESTS: 140

PHOTOGRAPHY: Gary’s Lens Photography

(garyslens.ca). “Gary was awesome! He asked

a lot of questions, came to the rehearsal

locations...During the actual ceremony, he was

taking so many pictures yet we didn’t even

notice he was there. Later, when he was doing

the family photos, he was quick and efficient!

When we took pictures with our bridal party,

we had such a good time...he was great at

controlling our crazy group. At the reception,

he took a ton of great candid shots. We really

enjoyed working with Gary and loved the pictures of the day. We think they reflect how much fun we had, and we’ve enjoyed sharing them with our friends and family.” - Emily & ColtonVENUE: Conestoga Golf & Country Club (♥) (golfconestoga.ca) “It’s beautiful there! The event coordinator is also amazing. From our first meeting she made us feel welcome and she was able to answer all of our questions and accommodate things for us.” BUDGET: Emily admits she’s a huge advocate for finding deals wherever you can. “We tried to keep our budget fairly reasonable ($15,000) and were able to do that.

SPEND MOST ON: Reception, photography and décor. FLOWERS: The Joy of Flowers (joyofflowers.info)OFFICIANT: Emily’s Grandfather!TOP PRIORITIES: Reception, décor and the bride’s dress. FAVOURITE PART: “Dress shopping with my family and best friend!” - Emily EASIEST PART: “We had great vendors who were all so capable so it felt like everything was taken care of.”MEN’S FORMAL WEAR: Collin’s Formal Wear (collinsformalwear.com)BRIDAL GOWN: Taylor’s Bridal Boutique (taylorsbridal.com)

We had the most perfect

day. It was perfect from

the weather, right down to

the last dance. It was a day

that captured who we are as

a couple and we were able

to share that love with our

dearest friends and family.

BRIDE & GROOM: Mandy & Brian McDonagh WEDDING DATE: May 24th, 2014CEREMONY: The Rose Chapel at BEST WESTERN® PLUS Stoneridge Inn (♥) (rosechapel.ca) “My Gramma, Rose, passed away in February before the wedding. When we came across Stoneridge Inn, which was the second or third venue we looked at, they had the Rose Chapel on site. We instantly knew we found our venue. And I was thrilled to find out that Stoneridge had saved the original sign of the Rose Chapel, and so we took photos with it.”RECEPTION: BEST WESTERN® PLUS Stoneridge Inn (♥) (stoneridgeinn.com)PHOTOGRAPHY: Robin Rae (lilylane.net)NO. GUESTS: 110COLOURS: Yellow & RedOFFICIANT: Lori Hawkrigg of Kettle Creek Weddings (kettlecreekweddings.com).BUDGET: “We are proud to say that we did our entire wedding on less than $15,000!”

WHEN SHE KNEW HE WAS ‘THE ONE’:“It was during a trip to Cuba in April 2013. I got very sick with strep throat – fever, stomach upset, swollen and very sore throat. I had to see the doctor for five out of the seven days of our trip to receive shots of antibiotics and pain meds. I spent two days in our room, with the rest of the trip taking lots of naps and breaks from the sun. Brian cared for me, bringing ice cream, and going to doctor appointments with me. I do not do sick well, cried a lot and called my mom every day. I would tell Brian to go out and meet some people, have dinner, have some fun. But I would hear Brian checking in on me about every half hour. After that, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. He was so caring, and so sweet and so attentive.” Similarly, Brian says, “I knew I would rather help take care of her in our room than sit by the pool, having drinks and partying with strangers.”

3 MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS:“...Finding a site where we could have everything in one place (ceremony and reception) because we had a lot of out of town guests and didn’t want them to have to drive around London to find the different locations. It was a bonus that they could stay overnight at the venue too. We also liked that we could offer our guests a meal choice. We also wanted to give our guests open bar since we felt that since they traveled and had extra expenses if they stayed the night that this was important to us. This meant that we couldn’t spend a lot of money on other things like flowers and the décor but we were ok with this...The most important element was honouring my grandmother.” FLOWERS: Gammage Flowers (gammageflowers.com)WEDDING CAKE: “We did not have a wedding cake. We had a late night pizza bar, so instead, we had a cake bride and groom put on a pizza, and we cut that!”

“I remember, surprisingly, how nervous I became right before the ceremony. I was gripping Brian’s hand so hard that he commented to me afterwards that it hurt. But standing with my husband, my nerves quickly subsided.”

FASHION & DESIGN PALETTE | This gorgeous, fashion-filled, design-savvy wedding palette is all about the beauty and history of London’s ELSIE PERRIN WILLIAMS ESTATE, our love for vintage wedding details, and of course, our huge crush on the British smash hit T.V. series, Downton Abbey. Each page is the result of putting one fabulous photographer (HRM Photograpy), some extravagant, gorgeous florals (Village Vines Florists) one sought-after wedding coordinator (Blissful Bookings), and a number of top named London and Southwestern Ontario area wedding experts (see next four pages for details) together in the same venue, on the same day, with the goal of igniting brides and grooms with fresh fashion and design inspiration.

Throughout this palette, you can see fashion evolve from earlier styles (circa 1914 - longer gowns, cathedral veils and up-do’s) to

post-World War One styles (around 1920, when women began to wear their hair down, wore shorter dresses and even began to show some skin! gasp!). The team incorporated authentic antique accessories, combining them with

current trends for an truly exquisite look.
