Corbett maths5 a day tasks (excellent daily consolidation) - aim for gold but there are easier and trickier options so please be led by your child.https://corbettmathsprimary.com/

Kahn Academy is useful for clips to support with methods:https://www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic-home

WritingAny writing at all would be wonderful and remember any writing you do for any other subject counts!

Here is the link to the expectations in writing for Y6 to help you to remember what elements to include:http://stjamescofeprimary.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Year-6-Expectations.pdf

With any of these writing activities that you complete, please email them to the class teacher. If you have handwritten them, just take a photo and email it that way. We would love to read them!

Literacy Shedhttps://www.literacyshed.com/alma.htmlUse Alma as a stimulus for your writing - it’s a little bit creepy but will generate some great writing. Using the link above you will be able to see some work generated by other Y6 children.

Write as a narrative Write a newspaper article about the events going on in the town about the missing

children - The Literacy Shed is a wonderful resource to stimulate writing and they are producing more resources to support learning at home.

Watch the short film on the link below and have a go at some of the tasks suggested underneath. In a timeless Parisien street there is a little shoemaker called Mr Botte. He makes and sells a special kind of shoes and business is good. However, the little shoemaker's life is about to change... a new shoe seller is in town and he will do anything to gain business. Mr Botte's business starts to fail. How will he cope? Maybe he will get some help from unexpected quarters. https://www.literacyshed.com/littleshoemaker.html Describe the shoemaker and his shop.  Retell the story in a fairytale style Use show don't tell to describe the shoes coming alive but leave your reader

wondering what is happening.  Describe the rival shoe maker using specific language to make him sound sly and

cunning.  Create some dialogue between the two shoe makers.  Write some dialogue between the shoemaker and his shoes.  Create a new plan to get rid of the shoemaker.  Create persuasive arguments for the little shoe maker's shoes. Explanations or instructions about how to make magic shoes.

Watch the short film on this link and then complete one tasks below. All is peaceful on the Southern ocean as the penguins relax on their icebergs. That is until Dr. Hammer and his sardines decide to test their weapons of mass destruction. Once the weapon is unleashed there is only one 'person' to save the world from disaster and that is

Page 3: stjamesbookbaghome.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewY6 Home Learning Ideas (11.05.20 - 22.05.20). Dear Year 6 Parents, We hope you are all well and that the children are happy

Fox, Spy Fox. He embarks on a mission to save the world but ends up fighting for the life of the lovely Lily. When he has freed Lily, they save the world from the evil Dr. Hammer and his evil, fishy minions. https://www.literacyshed.com/spyfox.html

Write the next adventure of Spy Fox using a different wild animal as the villain and including equally inept minions. We quite like the idea of a huge Ape - like King Louis in The Jungle Book - with cheeky monkey minions.

Create a newspaper report for the events outlined in the film. Design a 'Bond-like' gadget that fox could use in his missions.

Take 5 – Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boycehttps://stjamesbookbaghome.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/take-5_year5_6_cosmic-by-frank-cottrell-boyce_0.pdf1. Explore it – Read through the passage together. Use the questions at the bottom to discuss the extract – you may want to record notes about what you discuss.2. Illustrate it – Re-read through the passage a few times (maybe record it and play it back over and over). Draw what you imagine as you read/listen to it. Have a look back and see what you have drawn. Discuss why you have drawn that. What words/phrases did you hear to prompt your illustration.3. Talk about it – Use the questions to discuss the extract. Children can re-read it if they like.4. Imagine it – Re-read the passage. Use the questions prompts on the sheet to discuss imagining being in Liam’s position.5. Create it – Create an advert for a DraxPhone. Think about what features you would want your smartphone to have. Then write a letter to go with the advert to your parents saying why you should have one before secondary school.

Jane Considine Super Sentence Stackers Great writing sessions on YouTube - live lessons but can easily re-watch, e.g. Blue Umbrella, Hair Love… You don’t need to limit yourself to just one chunk!

Literacy with Miss Phttps://literacywithmissp.comOne English idea is being added a day - lots of scope here for inspiring writing.

Inspirational writing using a picture stimulushttps://www.pobble365.com/ - scroll down for short and long writing ideas.  By clicking on the Pdf link, the writing tasks are presented as a Power Point – much more user friendly for children to use independently.

Class 13 - Newspaper article about Philippe Petit’s tightrope walk. For anyone who was absent before school ended, it would be great for you to watch ‘The Walk’ as a stimulus. Alternatively, you could write some ‘good news’ articles based on some of the heroes/treasures we are hearing about in these difficult times. For extra lessons to support you with writing a newspaper report, there are some lessons provided by Oak National Academy here: https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-6/english#subjects

Class 14 - daily diary or poetry task making sure each day they use adventurous vocabulary and complex grammar

Spelling, Grammar and PunctuationConsolidate and revisit the content covered so far. ScienceElectricityBBC learning zone have fabulous science clips.https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zj44jxsLearning clips linked to electricity, conductors and circuitsAfter your child has watched a clip, are they able to start a knowledge organiser on an A3 piece of paper? Each time adding more and more key information to it once another video has been watched. This can be done independently, all they need to know and understand is that, they need to write/draw down the key information they have learnt from each of the short video tutorials. See below for an example – there are plenty of other examples on the internet for inspiration/ideas for presentation.

STEM LearningSTEM Learning is producing some great resources which can be used to investigate scientifically at home - great to do with siblings if that helps. MusicTry to listen to various types of music and write down your thoughts on it - Mr Kellers has made a play list to go with this:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4TrX9eXcTHk0bg9HFQTzeLSome questions to help you:

Do I like it? Why? How does it make me feel? What does this make me think of? What instruments can I hear? Is it fast/slow/loud/quiet? You might even want to try and draw some pictures based on the music that you are

listening to.

Have a go at using things that you have around the house to make some instruments that you can use to play along with. (Some ideas can be found here https://feltmagnet.com/crafts/Music-Instruments-for-Kids-to-Make). Send a picture/video of your instrument to us and explain how you can make sounds from it.
