QUALITY ASSURANCE

This setting is registered with Ofsted (Early Years register) and is required to meet the Requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014.These registers clearly state the minimum standards that must be met by law.As a consequence, Pre-school settings are subject to routine and regular inspection by Ofsted.

In consultation with the Company Directors, the designated Director shall ensure a site audit is undertaken to ascertain the layout of premises/site, staff and supervision required to achieve adequate personal safety of all children and young people. The audit shall be undertaken with a view to recognising any problems in terms of supervision (e.g. volunteers, helpers, extended sites creating communications concerns etc.). There may be a need to audit an existing site if, in the opinion of the designated Director and/or the Directors, there have been significant changes since the last use of that site/venue.All sessions and activities shall be conducted with the provisions, aims and objectives of this child protection policy in mind.

COMMISSIONING AND PROCUREMENT

FGM (Female genital mutilation)

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is illegal in England and Wales under the FGM Act 2003 (“the 2003 Act”). It is a form of child abuse and violence against women. FGM comprises all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia for non-medical reasons.        All practitioners are made aware of the possibility of a girl being at risk of FGM as a result of religious beliefs, nationality and other unusual events that could led to FGM

and all staff have completed the online FGM training so are aware of risk factors and signs of abuse. If a practitioner was concerned about a child then they would follow normal safeguarding procedures.

Prevent duty and British values

The Prevent duty became law in 2015. This is a duty on all schools and registered early years providers to have due regard to preventing people being drawn into terrorism. In order to protect children in our care, we are alert to any reason for concern in the child’s life at home or elsewhere. This includes awareness of the expression of extremist views.

British values are a set of four values introduced to help keep children safe and promote their welfare – as is the duty of all providers following the EYFS; specifically to counter extremism. British values is something that is embedded in our every day practice. Concerns should follow normal safeguarding procedures.

What are British values?

Democracy The rule of law Individual liberty Mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs

Refer to HM Government , revised prevent duty guidance: for England and Wales for more information

The key person is a secure base to ensure children feel safe and cared for by meeting their emotional needs and providing reassurance.

The key person will help children settle in and become familiar with the pre-school.

The key person will aim to create a secure attachment with each of their key children to promote children’s self regulation, confidence and agency.

The key person will get to know the child’s interests, likes and dislikes and be able to offer support and guidance through good quality play and learning activities.

The Key person will also support children’s physical needs like nappy changing, toileting and changing.

The key person will be designated to a child in the first few weeks, which gives the child some time to form relationships and preferences. Although the Key person does need to be a practitioner who is in on all of the days your child is in.

and is concerned to ensure that employees have a clear process for raising personal concerns.

2 This policy and its standards provide employees with a process whereby personal issues can be raised and hopefully resolved at the closest possible level.

3 No employee will be harassed, bullied or victimised for raising a grievance.

4 Matters of harassment, bullying or victimisation should be dealt with under the appropriate In2Play policy.

5 This Policy and the Procedure are non-negotiable and apply to all employees of In2Play.

6 In2Play will keep a record of a grievance and its resolution on the employee’s personal record. All processes and records are confidential, a breach of that confidentially may result in disciplinary action.

7 Where an employee raises a Grievance whilst they are subject to a disciplinary process, that process will take precedent. If the Grievance relates to the conduct of the disciplinary process, this may form part of their presentation to the disciplinary hearing.

8 All managerial actions in relation to this policy and the procedures, will be carried out in accordance with the In2Play’s management and leadership standards and the In2Play schemes of delegation.

9 An employee may raise a grievance relating to the application of their contractual terms and conditions, the general terms and conditions of employment, working guidelines and the application of other In2Play’s policies or procedures. The employee should also use this policy and procedures to address issues relating to working relationships.

10 The employee may be accompanied by a work colleague, trade union representative or representative of a professional body at the meetings to seek resolution between the employee and the manager to whom a grievance is made, or with an investigator, (where one is appointed). Employees and workers do not have the right to be accompanied, or represented, by a lawyer.

Procedure for handling grievances

The procedure for dealing with grievance falls into a number of stages:-

Stage 1

1 Prior to raising a formal grievance in writing the employee should always try to resolve matters through discussion with their line manager, who should take advice from the Directors where appropriate. The line manager should note on the personnel file the issues raised and their resolution

Stage 2

2 If matters cannot be resolved through discussion with the line manager the employee should set out the details of their grievance, in writing, to the Directors of In2Play. They should detail why matters could not be resolved with their immediate line manager. The Directors receiving a written grievance should acknowledge its receipt within 5 working days and arrange a meeting to discuss the grievance normally within 1 Calendar month. The employee must take reasonable steps to attend the meeting.

3 The Director receiving the written grievance should consider with the employee how the matter may be resolved and inform the employee and their line manager, how they propose the matter to be resolved. They should inform the employee at the meeting and confirm the details for resolution, in writing, within 5 working days of the meeting.

Stage 3

4 If the matter remains unresolved then the employee should write to the Directors, advising them of the original grievance and explaining why the matter has remained unresolved. The Directors, should acknowledge receipt of the grievance within 5 working days.

5 The Directors should arrange a meeting with the employee normally within 1 Calendar month to consider the facts of the grievance, the actions taken to resolve matters and consider options for resolution. They should communicate their decisions to the employee at the end of the meeting and to managers of the employee concerned within 5 working days of the meeting.

6 Where matters are of sufficient concern, the Director may appoint an In2play Community Interest Company - for children and adults to learn, play and grow Company No. 5769372

investigator to establish the facts and to provide a written report on their findings. This investigation will be carried out in accordance with the In2Play policy and standards for investigations.

7 The resolution of a Grievance rests finally with the relevant Director who must ensure that a written record of the grievance, subsequent correspondence and meeting is kept on the employee’s personal record.

Grievance records8 In2Play will keep a record on an employee’s main employment record,

of the grievance raised and its outcomes/resolution. No other records should be kept.

Positive comments are a good way for parents to let settings know their work is valued and appreciated, give everyone concerned the chance to build on good practice which promotes children's development, parents are encouraged to praise where appropriate.

PROCEDURES

The procedures for parents/carers to make a complaint are clearly advertised at the session. We keep a copy of complaints, and their outcome.

The Manager and In2play Directors will monitor and regularly review the complaints records.

Parents wishing to make concerns about staff or practice known to In2play should first talk to the person in charge of the session, most problems can be sorted out quickly in this way, any problems should be resolved within a reasonable time-scale, this may vary depending on the problem, but will always be within 28 days of having received the complaint.

If the situation is not resolved the parent should approach a Director of In2play who will look into the concern. (email [email protected])

It may be helpful to have a meeting with an outside mediator, the parent and a representative from In2play, this should help both sides to clarify the issues and reach an amicable solution.

If this still does not resolve the problem or the complainants feel that the provider is not meeting the EYFS requirements, Ofsted may be able to help. The Ofsted contact number is displayed on notice boards at In2play registered settings.

MANAGING CHILDREN'S BEHAVIOUR POLICY AND PROCEDURES

POLICYIn2play aims to provide a stimulating range of experiences and activities for children to make sense of their world through play and by providing a happy, well managed environment the children will be encouraged to develop social skills to help them become accepted and welcome in society as they grow up. We recognise that busy children are less likely to behave in an unacceptable way. We recognise the need to set reasonable and appropriate limits which all the adults will maintain in the management of children's behaviour.

We do not administer physical punishment or punishment which causes pain or humiliation to a child. Any worker who fails in this is committing an offense.A worker will not have committed an offense, if physical intervention is necessary to avert immediate danger of physical injury to any adult or child, or to manage a child’s behaviour if absolutely necessary. We keep records of any physical intervention and inform parents on the same day.

We recognise the importance of the adult’s behaviour as a role model for the children and will not allow bullying in the form of physical or verbal abuse towards anyone.

We endorse positive discipline as an effective way to set limits and manage behaviour in our sessions.

PROCEDURESIn order to do this we -

Reward good behaviour because rewards are constructive, they encouragefurther effort. Punishment is destructive; it humiliates children andmakes them feel powerless.

Encourage self discipline and respect for others because children need to grow into people who behave well even when there is no one to tell them what to do.

Set realistic limits according to children's age and stage of developmentbecause as children grow our expectations of them change.

Set a good example because children take more notice of how weare and what we do than what we say.

Encourage children, not order them because do as you are told does notteach anything for next time, positive discipline means explaining why.

Consultation between parents and staff will ensure consistent adultresponses to children's behaviour because children need to know wherethey stand and what we mean by what we say,

Praise, give attention and appreciate what children do because whenchildren are used to getting attention for good behaviour they will notneed to seek it by misbehaving.

Build children's self esteem because shaming, scolding or humiliating children can lead to even worse behaviour while approval, praise and attention will make a child feel valued and cared for.

Keep routines flexible to reduce frustration. Talk to children about their emotions and that of others and how their

actions can harm others. Ensure children have opportunities to identify and discuss boundaries so

that they understand why they are there. Ensure children are listened to. Staff will attend relevant training to ensure they keep up to date with

best practice in behaviour management.
