Based in Geneva, and reporting to the World YWCA Board, she has overall accountability for the strategic, programmatic, financial and management operations of the World YWCA. She also articulates, communicates and advocates the World YWCA mission and leads the implementation of the organisation’s bold and transformative vision. Malayah, a dual Canadian and British citizen, has more than 25 years of experience in gender issues, women’s leadership and women’s rights, with particular expertise in sexual and reproductive health and rights. Before joining the World YWCA, Malayah was Director, Gender Equality and Diversity for UNAIDS. At UNAIDS, she led and elevated global political commitment for Women, Girls and HIV, and worked across Member States, resulting in a global resolution on the topic at the Commission on the Status of Women, renewed commitments at the UN High Level Meeting on HIV in June 2016 and a strong partnership with the Africa Union. Malayah also has significant experience in movement building and field work. She was the UNAIDS Country Director for Uganda, and subsequently Kenya. She has a deep commitment to ensure that no woman or girl is left behind as evident through her work with ethnic minority communities in Thailand and her roots with Inuit communities in Canada. Before her experience at UNAIDS, Malayah also held leadership roles at the UK Department for International Development, the World Bank, the World Health Organization, and several NGOs. She began her career as a youth leader in Canada. Malayah holds a Masters in Health Policy, Planning and Financing in the Developing World from the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She has a Bachelor of Arts in International Development with a major in Anthropology from the University of Toronto in Canada. -ends-
