D E S I G N C U S T O M I Z A T I O N

Lyophilised supplement vials are packed in multiples of 10, each vial consisting of either 500ml, 1 litre, 2 litre or even 3-4 litre pack sizes depending on the customers ordering preference.

The supplements are presented in a freeze-dried format, and they carry with them a 2-3 year shelf life depending on the antibiotic content. Storage of the products should be in a refrigerator at 2-8C. On addition to the appropriate culture medium the content of each vial is mixed and dissolved resulting in the correct level of selective agents.

Antibiotic susceptibility discs

IntroductionSince the introduction of paper discs as antibiotic reservoirs in the 1940’s, disc diffusion sensitivity tests have been the methods of choice in most routine microbiology laboratories. Antibiotic infused paper discs are placed on the surface of a solid culture medium which has been evenly inoculated with a test organism. The antibiotic diffuses uniformly outwards on all sides from the disc into the medium and produces a concentration gradient around the disc during inoculation. Growth of the organism is inhibited in a zone around the disc if the organism is susceptible to the antibiotic in the concentrations achieved. The size of the zone is influenced by the susceptibility of the organism, and by several other factors. i.e. The rate of diffusion of the drug, the growth of the organism, the medium and the inoculum. Variables, when performing disc diffusion tests must be controlled. Many commonly used methods are based on the appropriate linear relationship between M.I.C. and zone size (regression line).

Description Sterile absorbent paper discs with a diameter of 6.5mm(vials) or 6.25mm (cartridges) infused to critical standards. Each disc is printed on both sides with the appropriate antibiotic code, and manufactured on a standard 300g.s.m. paper which conforms to international recommendations.

PackagingEach vial contains 100 discs of one antibiotic strength. Cartridges are packed in 5 x 50 disc cartridges and include a hand dispenser.

In Use All discs should be stored at 2-8’C within sealed vials or in their cartridges inside the sealed tin when not in use. They should be first allowed to stabilise to room temperature before opening. Discs from vials can be applied to agar plates by use of a needle. Discs in cartridges can be applied by use of the hand dispenser provided. Alternatively, the cartridges fit other commercial dispensing systems.

Antibiotic Multiring susceptibility tests

IntroductionThe increase in susceptibility test demands of the laboratory led to an increase in time spent on these tests. In order to decrease the time involved in applying a number of single discs, the Multiring device was developed. This device applies drugs onto the diffusion test in one rapid easy movement. The Multiring device is a ring with the test antibiotics in six or eight peripheral discs. The arms connecting the discs to the ring, which incorporates an impermeable hydrophobic barrier to localise the drug, ensuring round zones for easy interpretation. The paper from which the device is made is the same as used for single discs and the rings are made to the same standards thus giving identical results.

Description The multiring is a round paper ring with six or eight equally distanced antibiotics placed around the outer ring. Accurate impregnation of the drug and the impermeable barrier effectively creates a disc of 6mm diameter. The overall diameter of the 8 drug device is 65mm and the 6 drug device is 58mm, which is ideally suited to standard 90 mm Petri dishes.

PackagingThere are 100 Multirings (6 or 8drug) supplied in each container.

In useAs with the single discs all Multirings should be stored at 2-8C in their sealed container when not in use. They should be allowed to temperature stabilise before being opened for use. Transference of the Multiring to the medium is best performed with a flamed needle or forceps. It is important to ensure that the Multiring is in contact with the medium at all points.

Terms & Conditions of Sale 1. 1. General

2. All quotations are given, all orders accepted, all goods sold and service tendered under these conditions and to the exclusion of any Conditions of purchase. Any variation in Conditions must be accepted by Microtrade UK Limited. (After which known as the “Company”).

3. 2. Prices

4. Unless otherwise agreed the price of the goods shall be that ruling at the time of despatch. Unless expressly stipulated all quotations and invoices shall be net of tax and the Company shall add Value Added Tax to all invoices, except where authorised otherwise by Customs & Excise.

5. 3. Delivery

6. All dates quoted are estimates only and the Company shall not be liable for failure to deliver within such time. Whilst every endeavour will be made to comply to such dates no liability will be accepted by the Company where delay in delivery is caused by anything beyond the reasonable control of the Company.

In the event of inability, for any reason, to supply the total demands for the material specified in the Buyer’s order, the Company may allocate its available supply among any or all purchasers, on such basis as the Company may deem fair and practicable without liability for any failure of performance which may result therefrom.

4. Packaging

The Company reserve the right to add to the price a reasonable charge for containers and packaging. Such goods are non-returnable unless so indicated.

5. Goods in Transit

A. If the goods or any part thereof are or is damaged or lost in transit the Company must be notified within three days of delivery. In the case of non-delivery notification must be made in writing within five working days.

B. If the goods are agreed by the Company to be defective in any way then the Company has the option to either replace the goods in question or credit the invoice value of the same, but in no circumstances shall the liability of the Company in connection of such goods exceed the cost of replacement of the same or the price paid by the Buyer for the same.

6. Payment

Unless otherwise agreed in writing payment in full in respect of all goods is due by the 21st day of the month following month of delivery. If payment is not received in full by the due date the Company reserves the right to charge interest on any account outstanding on a day to day basis at a rate of six percent above the base lending rate being employed by Whitaway Laidlaw Commercial Bank Ltd., Such interest to be charged until the date of actual payment. Payment in advance may be required from Buyers without a valid credit account with the Company.

7. Cancellation

Orders may not be cancelled without prior agreement, which may be subject to payment of a cancellation charge.

8. Liability

The Company shall incur no liability for the direct / indirect or consequential loss injury or damage to persons or property from any cause whatsoever as a result of the handling of goods not in accordance with standard code of practise or the Government regulations. Any liability incurred by the Company for the direct / indirect or consequential loss injury or damage to persons or property resulting from the negligence, delay, defect, or failure in the goods or from any cause whatsoever shall be limited to a sum equal to the charges for the goods or that part so affected. In no circumstances shall liability attach to the Company in respect of delay, defect in the goods or any default resulting from the specification by the customer of unsuitable material.

9. Law

These conditions shall be governed in accordance with English laws.

We do not require a written confirmation of a telephoned order, but if a confirming order is sent please ensure it is clearly marked “CONFIRMATION”.

Minimum Order details:

For UK customers we do not have a minimum order value. However, in order to cover packaging and delivery costs etc., we will charge a handling fee of £15.00 GBP on orders with a value of less than £50.00 before discount and V.A.T. Should your order be required to be sent on an AM. Overnight delivery service, then an extra charge of £10.50 GBP will be added to the standard freight cost on your invoice. (Applicable to UK shipments only).

For export clients the minimum order value is £250.00 GBP per single shipment. Documentation and despatch procedures for export orders can be complex and costly, making small orders uneconomical for us to process. We therefore suggest that where possible you consider consolidating your orders. We will be pleased, under your instructions, to consolidate orders for you.
