Message from the Administration

As we bid farewell to 2018, we look forward to all the possibilities for the upcoming year. We are saddened to say good-bye to Ms. Levy as she embarks on a new journey as Vice Principal at Glamorgan Public School. Her professionalism and genuine care for all her students will be her greatest asset as she continues on her career path. We would also like to say good-bye to Ms. Gammon, our Educational Assistant in our Diagnostic Kindergarten class. We wish her good luck and hope she enjoys her retirement.

As we move into 2019, this provides everyone with the opportunity to re-establish our daily routines of attending school regularly, being on time and to become involved in the many extracurricular opportunities The Trail has to offer. With the coming of the New Year, we make resolutions to continue to be respectful of others, be kind to those around us and to offer help whenever needed. We are looking forward to 2019 and wish all our families in the Military Trail community all the health and happiness for this year.

At some point this year, with the hard work of our ECO Club, Military Trail will be installing new bike racks to encourage our students to ride to school. This will be completed, hopefully in time for spring. Our athletic programs will continue with Boys’ Basketball, Girls’ Volleyball, Floor Hockey and Track and Field as spring arrives.

Wishing you all the very best in 2019.

ECO ClubIn December, the Eco-Team met with an Eco Auditor and we are very happy to say that we are on track to be awarded platinum certification! Thank you to all of the commitment from the Eco Reps and Eco Leaders in the school. We plan to keep up the great work in the New Year. Congratulations to the families that won the waste-free lunch kit at the Winter Concert!

We also conducted our first Energy Audit in December and we are looking to improve upon those results. Some tips to reduce our energy use:

1. Turn off the lights when you leave the room.2. Use natural light as much as possible.3. Dress for the weather (perhaps an extra layer will help you stay warm so the

heat does not have to be turned up).

Student Mental Health and Wellness DayThe staff and students here at MTPS participated in the Student Mental Health and Wellness Day on December 5th. During the afternoon, students were engaged in hands-on and interactive workshops which focused on mental health and well-being. In the workshops, students had the opportunity to discuss the different emotions

they feel and explored different strategies to help with self-regulation.

First World War Discovery Box comes to Military Trail

This Discovery Box features objects and lesson plans related to the Canadian experience overseas during the First World War. The resources have been developed by the experts at the Canadian War Museum, Canada’s national museum of military history.

The Discovery Boxes have been created to help teachers provide a unique, informative and engaging experience for students learning about the First World War or planning First World War remembrance activities. The lesson plans are targeted to grades Kindergarten through 12 (Kindergarten to Secondary 5 in Quebec) and cover themes of community, identity, historical thinking, geography and art.

There are a total of 23 artifacts in the Discovery Box. In addition to the artifacts the package contains, artifact checklists, supplementary resources and hard copies of the lesson plans. Most of these documents are also available online.

We encourage parents to visit the Discovery Box when it becomes available at the school.
