What to do if there is a delay in my full-time education provision* In rare occasions there may be a delay in a child/young person attending a suitable full-time education provision. This is not an acceptable position and Social Workers must follow HCC’s Best Provision Protocol & notify their Virtual School Education Officer. However, as the PEP is a statutory part of the care plan, a PEP must still be in place and updated termly.

The Social Worker must complete the following sections: The reasons for no educational provision and the last date of attendance at the previous

This section can be sent out in advance of the PEP to enable Parent/Carers to prepare for the PEP meetingWhat will help me to build on my strengths, do my best and be my best?

As a carer you may want to consider:Is your young person keen to come to school, have a good relationship with staff and their peers? Do you think they are confident to ask questions or talk to their teacher about their learning? What is your experience of them completing homework and do you feel confident enough to support them completing it? Do you feel they are keen to take part in school trips, clubs etc. and have they shared with you any particular anxieties, worries or concerns?

As a carer you can either:Send in your own words so that the school and Social Worker will paste into this section of the PEP or share your thoughts at the meeting and the Designated Teacher will record the main points in this section.

Securing Full-time Education Provision Action Plan PageTo be completed in the very rare circumstances that a child or young person is without a school place or can no longer access their last named provision for any reason.

All Children in Care should attain appropriate, full time education within 20 days of leaving their previous provider. Changes of education should be planned via a PEP meeting. Where this is not possible, every effort should be made to include all parties to the PEP in transition planning, and agreed actions should be recorded here. Where there is no school of record the Social Worker MUST maintain the sections of the PEP listed under “What to do if there is a delay in my full-time education provision” as this is a statutory subsection of the care plan.

Every child should have a current & up to date PEP at all times.
