Line Design Landscape Folded Paper Picasso Portrait

One Point Perspective RevisitedOverview: Stay Inside or Go Outside and DrawEstimated Time: 20 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, marker, crayons, colored pencils, ruler or straight edge and a solid surface to draw upon (book or clipboard or table if you are working inside)Activity Explanation: This activity will help you to hone your skills with the concept of one-point perspective…taking a process from first grade and adding a creative Idea Examples: (Don’t limit yourself…expand your vision and just draw…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!)

Sample below: Place a dot on paper, draw 5 shapes, using straight edge-draw lines to the corners or sides of shapes…add line detail and color from dark by the dot to really light at the shape and really dark shape.

Funny Collaged Portrait (people or animals)

Overview: Stay Inside or Go Outside and Draw Estimated Time: 20 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, marker, old magazines, glue stick or tape and a solid surface to draw upon (book or clipboard or table if you are working inside)Activity Explanation: This activity will help you to extend your creativity and enjoy some humorous interpretations of portraitsIdea Examples: (Don’t limit yourself…expand your vision and just draw…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!)Collage is the process of cutting and gluing to create an image

Draw an empty line design face shape with a pencil or marker

Now go through old magazines and find facial features and cut and place them on your open face

When you like the placement, glue or tape and Enjoy the Funny!

Toilet Paper Tube SculptureOverview: Using a TP tube to create unique sculptural ideasEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: TP tube or paper towel tube, pencil, marker, colored pencils, scissorsActivity Explanation: This activity will help you think “outside the box or cardboard tube” and create unique shapes and sculpture ideasIdea Examples: (Don’t limit yourself to anything on the list below…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!)

Fold, cut color and create an animal (Maxfield with a TP cat friend)

Observational Drawing

Go outside and draw a tree with all the wonderful textures

Go outside and look up at the clouds rolling by and sketch out what you see in the formations (Unicorn, Clown, Balloons…look closely as the clouds change and move-what else do you see?)

Go outside and draw your front or your back yard…yes…this is a Landscape!

Not outdoor weather…stay inside and draw your pet (if you have one) while it is sitting still or sleeping

No pet…how about sketch a picture of your sibling or parent

Need something that sits still…set up objects in your room (toys, shoes, cups, even a crumpled pair of socks will make a great subject for observing…etc)…this is a Still Life (because it sits still)

Folded Paper Picasso PortraitOverview: Stay Inside or Go Outside and Draw Estimated Time: 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, colored marker, colored pencil, crayon (whatever you have for color) and a solid surface to draw upon (book or clipboard or a table if you are inside)Activity Explanation: This activity will help you to consider the artist Pablo Picasso and his Cubist style

Idea Examples: (Don’t limit yourself …expand your vision and just draw…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!)Definitions: Cubism- a 20th century style (primarily in painting) that was the use of simple shapes to create an image…in this case a face or PortraitPablo Picasso- (1881 – 1973) Spanish painter, sculptor, ceramicist and poet. Picasso was a founder of Cubism and one of the most influential artists of the Twentieth Century. Picasso was an influential peace activist whose art touched on the horrors of war.Example for Folding Paper (you can fold it anyway you want!)

Trace the folds and design your face and add color. Follow the rule- if a shape is surrounded by a black line, it gets its own color!
