MONTHLY REPORT –FEBRUARY 2020 Mrs. G. Asmathunnisa participated in one day Basic Training Workshop on Human Rights organised by SBRR Mahajanas College and CSSEIP on 31.1.2020. Prof. P. Shivananda Bharathi delivered special lecture on Payment of Bonus Act including Minimum Wages Act at KSOU, Mysuru addressing students of MBA department on 6.2.2020.

Smt. M. Tejaswini, Coordinator – Placement Cell organised Career Orientation Programme by P&G, Mysuru on 7.2.2020.

Dr. N. Vani Shree participated as a Resource Person and spoke on ‘Educate and Empower Women to Enlighten India’ in the Legal Awareness Week organised by Legal Literacy Club of SDM Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Krishnamurthypuram, Mysuru on 7.2.2020.

o On 8.2.2020 was the inaugural of the moot competition. The competition was inaugurated by Hon’Ble Justice B.A. Patil, Judge – Karnataka High Court, Prof. Ishwar Bhat, Vice Chancellor – KSLU presided over the programme, Dr. C. G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru was the Chief Guest. Dr. Vinod Surana, Managing Partner and CEO, SSIA, Chennai, Prof. K. S. Suresh, Chief Executive, JSS Law College and Dr. Ravichandra, Advocate and Head-Academic Initiatives, SSIA, Chennai were the Guests of Honour. Prof. M. P. Nagendra Murthy, Coordinator, other staff members and students and special invitees were also present.

o The programme began with invocation song and inaugural by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries on the dais, followed with Welcome address by Prof. K. S. Suresh. Dr. Vinod Surana gave an eloquent speech by emphasizing on the role of Moot Court Competitions in an advocates’ career. Hon’ble Justice

B.A. Patil delivered the inaugural address where he observed that the moot competitions stimulates scholastic experience and its benefits and His Lordship concluded the address by metaphorically regarding the ethics and culture of mooting as ‘Knowledge with humbleness’. Dr. Ishwar Bhat gave the Presidential Addrsss and the inaugural function concluded with a vote of thanks expressed by Dr. S. Nataraju.

o The Valedictory programme began at 4.45 pm on 9.2.2020 with a cordial welcome speech by Dr. S. Nataraju. The chief guests were Hon’ble Justice Arvind Kumar, Judge – High Court of Karnataka, Sri. Prabhuling Navadgi, Advocate General for Karnataka, Dr. Sudhir Krishnaswamy, Vice Chancellor – NLSIU, Bengaluru. The guests of honour wre Smt. Jayna Kotjari, Senior Advocate and Executive Director – Centre for Law and Research, Sri. Ashuthosh Chandra, Hon’ble Member – NCLT, Dr. Vinod Surana, Managing Partners and CEO, SSIA – Chennai, Prof. K. S. Suresh, Chief Executive and Judges from Mysore Law Courts.

o Hon’ble Justice Arvind Kumar in his Valedictory speech emphasised the importance of mooting and research along with his life experience as an advocate and also recollected the difficulties in organising the moot competition. His Excellency expressed that by mere participation in Moot

Court competition, the mooter gets enshrined by knowledge, that acquiring knowledge is the advantage of mooter. He also threw light on the significance of ‘Punctuation’ while writing judgements and also spoke on court mannerism. Further he mentioned about the problems in litigation and how Alternative Dispute Resolution and mediation played a significant role in cutting down delay of cases in the courts. Hon’ble Justice concluded his note by emphasising on pursuit of excellence in their career. Dr. Sudhir Krishnaswamy in his speech focused on conflicts in the core development of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. The presidential remark was given by Sri. Prabhuling Navadgi and referred to Section 7 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and the context of lease therein. Dr. Ravichandran then announced the results of the competition followed by distribution of participation certificates to all the participants. The awards include Best Memorials award secured by Institute of Law, NIRMA University and won cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, Best Student Advocate award was won by Shubham Nahata of Hidayatullah National Law University and won the cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, the Spirit of Surana Title was won by School of Law, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Hidayathullah National Law University secured the third place, Institute of Law, NIRMA University secured the Third place, Runner-up team was Symbiosis Law School, Noida who won cash prize of Rs. 15,000/- and the Winning Team was RGNUL, Punjab and won the cash prize of Rs. 30,000/-. The Best Speaker of Final Round was won by Anmol Mahajan of RGNUL, Punjab.

As an IQAC initiative the college had arranged a special talk by Dr. Vinod Surana, Managing Partners and CEO, SSIA – Chennai, addressing the final year students on Career Prospects in Corporate Taxation and Corporate Law Compliances on 9.2.2020.

Dr. S. Nataraju, Principal, Dr. N. Vani Shree, NAAC and IQAC Coordinator, Mr. A.T. Jagadish and Mr. Madhu Kumar R.N. attended Orientation Programme – PARAMARSH – UGC Scheme for Mentoring NAAC Accreditation Aspirant Institutions to Promote Quality Assurance in Higher Education on 10.2.2020 organised by JSS College for Women, Saraswathipuram, Mysuru.

Mrs. G. Asmathunnisa presented paper on ‘The right to social security – a critical overview’ at International Seminar held on Social Security as Human Right, organised by School of Legal Studies Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, Kerala on 10.2.2020 and 11.2.2020.

JSS Law College (Autonomous) signed MoU with Mysuru Makkala Koota and Shri Darmasthala Manjunatheshwara Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Mysuru on 11.2.2020.

Staff meeting was convened on 12.2.2020. Dr. S. Nataraju, Sri. A.T. Jagadish, Smt. Swapa Jangamashetti and Mrs. G.

Asmathunnisa participated in UGC sponsored one day State Level Workshop on ‘Teachers Capacity Building’ organised by JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, (Ooty road) Mysuru on 13.2.2020.

Smt. M. Tejaswini, Course Teacher arranged industrial visit for IV Semester B.B.A., LL.B students to Karnataka Milk Federation, Mysuru on 15.2.2020.

Rotaract Club organised Pani to Police Project on 15.2.2020 with an objective to acknowledge the hard work of the traffic police. The project was lead by Miss. Roshini of VIII semester B.A., LL.B along with the Rotaractors and distributed water, juice, biscuits to the traffic police who work day and night to maintain traffic in the city.

Prof. P. Shivananda Bharathi delivered special lecture on Industrial Laws at KSOU, Mysuru addressing students of MBA department on 19.2.2020.

The ‘B’ and ‘C’ Certificate NCC Cadets appeared for the practical and theory exams at the unit and group headquarters, Mysuru on from 15.2.2020 to 16.2.2020 and also from 22.2.2020 to 23.2.2020.

Dr. N. Vani Shree participated in the Orientation Programme for Mentoring NAAC Accreditation Aspirant Institutions to promote quality assurance in higher education on 24.2.2020 organised by the JSS College for Women, Mysuru.

Dr. N. Vani Shree, Frlying Officer, 4 Kar Air Sqn NCC, Mysuru was detailed as an examiner, invigilator and evaluator for the ‘B’ and ‘C’ NCC Certificate Exams on 22, 25, 27, 28 of February 2020 and 3.3.2020 respectively.

The College Annual Inter Class Athletic meet was conducted on 01.02.2020 at Mysore University Oval Ground.

Cadet Swathi M. Shet of our college had attended the Prestigious Republic Day Parade at New Delhi on 26.1.2020. She attended the Pre-RDC camps at Bengaluru during November and December 2019 to qualify for the same. During the de-kitting camp she was honoured and congratulated by the Chief Minister and Governor of Karnataka at Vidhan Soudha on 5.2.2020 and 6.2.2020.

Miss. Neerja Rajesh of VI Semester B.B.A., LL.B participated and won the Best Delegate award representing Newzealand, in the Sochum Committee, during the BITSMUN - Annual International Model United Nations Conference of BITS Pilani, Goa from 31.1.2020 to 1.2.2020.

Miss. A. Samvedana of II Semester B.B.A., LL.B got first prize in the competition on Recent Amendments to the Karnataka State Acts organised by the Library Committee on 5.2.2020.

Miss. Neerja Rajesh of VI Semester B.B.A., LL.B participated and presented a paper on ‘Decriminalisation of Prostitution: How the Kiwis got it right’ in the International Seminar on Realisation of Human Rights of Women – Changing Dimensions, Challenges and Recourse held on 6.2.2020 and 7.2.2020 organised by the Centre for Women and Family Studies, The National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi, Kerala.

The College Inter Class Throw ball Competition was held on 17.2.2020 in the College premises.

Miss. Shivani P. Murthy and Mr. B.P. Chengappa of II semester B.B.A., LL.B participated and won First place in the Management Fest (Finance) competition organised by De Paul First Grade College, Mandya held on 20.2.2020.

Mr. Naveen Ponnaiah, Miss. Saloni Olivera and Mr. Vivek of VIII Semester B.A., LL.B participated and secured First position and was awarded cash prize of Rs. 16,000/- in the All India Moot Court Competition 2020 at Vivekananda Law College, Puttur from 21.2.2020 to 23.2.2020. Mr. Naveen Ponnaiah won the Best Male student advocate award.
