Parish Council This year we have had local council elections and a new Ward Councillor has been elected for our Ward. Sarah Pochin, our new Ward member has attended her first PC meeting but, with her other parish commitments, missed the second. Below is a letter she has written for this newsletter.

Dear Residents

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself as your Cheshire East Borough Councillor. I was elected in May of this year to represent the Bunbury Ward and have already been busy getting involved in local issues to help improve your lives. Some of these are:

I have arranged for parking restrictions to be installed in the form of double yellow lines at the junction of Station Road and the A51 to try and improve this dangerous junction. This will give cars turning into and out of Station road more room to manoeuvre, especially when exiting left onto the A51 towards Nantwich.

I have been involved with

the discussions regarding the long term strategy for the A51 and can confirm that Cheshire East are contributing along with Cheshire West and Chester to a comprehensive traffic survey to look at the future volume and profile of traffic on the A51 and deciding the best and most feasible way of mitigating against the impact it has on residents living close by.

The A51 is a key strategic route that must be maintained adequately and we are also looking at the impact of both air and noise pollution.

Ward Councillor Sarah Pochin

If any residents wish to contact me then the best way is by email on [email protected]. I am here to serve the community and so if you need help or advice then please do get in touch.

While we did not have an election for the Parish Council in Calveley parish (we did not have more people offering themselves for election than we have places on the Parish Council), in Alpraham there was a contest. As a result of this election there has been a significant change in personnel on the Council. The new Alpraham Parish Council has asked both Calveley Parish Council and the Trustees of the Reading Room if a new period of cooperation can be initiated. Calveley and Alpraham have started a review of the benefits for the community that can be achieved.

There is to be a combined Open Meeting of all the Councillors from both Alpraham and Calveley

and the Trustees of the Reading Room on Sunday 6 October 2019 at the Tollemache Arms. All residents are invited to attend this at any time during the morning (9.00am to 11.30am) and meet all of us. This is an opportunity to chat, make friends, meet neighbours, the councillors and the trustees. Please come!

There is still a vacancy on the Parish Council and we would welcome any volunteer. All current members of the Parish Council are listed below with contact details. If you have any questions please contact any one and ask.

The Neighbourhood PlanThe Neighbourhood Plan was voted in by a very large majority at the end of last year and it is now “enacted”.

Davenport Arms and Station Road developmentsBoth these sites are finished and the first new owners have moved into the Davenport Place.

Other developments in or near Calveley1. 19/2805N – Wardle airfield second industrial units (Units 2A & 2B) application. These will be

located near the new roundabout, beyond the first units that have been erected already.2. 19/1937N – the Reading Room site. This is an application for 2 units on the site of the old

Reading Room that has been demolished. Decision not yet made.3. 19/0813N – South View, Calveley. This is a new application that combines all the previous 3

approvals into a single application. This is for 6 four-bedroom semi-detached houses.4. 18/6121N – behind the playing field, Alpraham. This application was for up to 20 units

behind the playing field. A reserved matters application was submitted and has been refused by Cheshire East. I understand that the original developer has now withdrawn from the sale and the site is back on the market.

5. 19/3707N – Eschol, School Lane (actually Calveley Green Lane, I believe!). This application is for an extension and some alterations.

The A51 and its “Corridor”Progress continues, albeit slowly. After several meetings of the LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership – www.871candwep.co.uk/ ) and the LTB (Local Transport Board – where Cheshire East, Cheshire West, Warrington, Transport for the North, Network Rail, Highways England, etc. all sit down together to discuss all forms of travel/transport issues in the area) there was a meeting (12 July), where the LEP Strategy committee began to allocate money to schemes for 2019/20 financial year. The A51 was not in this initial tranche but there is now confirmation that all the parties have agreed funding allocation and the September meeting is likely to confirm a start date – see Sarah Pochin’s comment above.

The Connectivity Study is the first step to deciding what, if anything, should or could be done to ease traffic flow along the A51 between the M6 and the A55 at Chester.

This link will take you to the Clotton Hoofield Parish Council website where all the papers used by the “Action for the A51” committee can be found. http://www.clottonhoofieldparishcouncil.co.uk/a51/

The Reading RoomThe Reading Room Trustees are now in consultation with both Calveley and Alpraham Parish Councils to determine the optimum “way forward” for the development of a new village/community

project that will benefit everybody. Come to the Open Meeting and contribute to the debate – see above.
