3. Mandatory Externship Statement: Although securing a placement is the student’s responsibility, this statement will help the Program director assist you with placement selection. In an attached document (750 words maximum) please discuss what sort of externship you hope to secure. Please include as much detail as possible, such as:

Preferred Issue areas (e.g. criminal prosecution or defense, environmental law, health law, trade etc.)

Type of organization you are interested in (e.g. executive branch, congressional, non-profit)

Type of work (e.g. litigation, policy, transactional) Any relevant academic or life experience that will play a role in selection (including

any law school courses or activates which are relevant to the externship you are seeking) Ideological bent (optional, i.e., for Hill placement, think tanks etc.)

Eligibility Requirements

Please check each item below to indicate understanding and compliance.

☐ UC Irvine Law students must be in their second or third year of law school to participate in the Program.

☐ Students will earn a total of 13 units for the UCDC Law Program. Ten (10) of the units will be on a credit/no credit basis. The remaining 3 units will be for the accompanying graded course.

☐ UC Irvine Law students must confirm with the Dean of Students that they are eligible to participate in the program in terms of units, course requirements, limitations on particular types of units (see Academic Rules, I. D.) and other academic planning issues. Confirmation of this approval must be submitted (using the Externship Registration form) to the Director of Externships.

My signature below certifies that I have confirmed that I am eligible to participate in the UCDC Law program, that I have complied with all of my home school’s requirements, and that I have obtained all necessary approvals to participate in the UCDC Law Program for fall 2015 or spring 2016.
