The 6TH Annual General Meeting for Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) ICE Student Chapter

Malaysia was held on 17TH December 2013 at Twin Theater in Block BV, UNITEN. It officially started at

7.45pm and ended at 10.00pm. The main purpose of the general meeting was to appoint a new Executive

Board Members for academic year 2013/2014 and to pay tribute to the outgoing Executive Board

Members. It also provided a platform for the club to update its members on all the activities and events

that have been held for the past year.

  Preparations for the meeting started at 6.30pm and by 7.00pm, members started to arrived at the

same venue and a few minutes later, the VIP had arrived which is Ir Dr Ooi Teik Aun, ICE Country

Representative for Malaysia. The meeting started with National Anthem and UNITEN song and then

continues by opening speech from Ir Dr Ooi. Ir Dr Ooi encourage students to exposed more on

international organizations such as ICE that will help them much, not only in knowledge wise, but also

including preparations as well as experiences before they are able to stand strong on their own during

working paths. Besides that, Ir Dr Ooi Teik Aun also thanked UNITEN ICE Student Chapter for

promoting ICE as a student chapter and still maintaining and keeping a good relationship with

the civil engineering students and staffs in UNITEN. Ir Dr Ooi even promote ICE UK website to

all students by showing the students about the additional information and benefits of joining ICE

such as virtual libraries, latest updates of news about civil engineering related field and etc.

Next on the agenda was the speech from ICE Student Chapter outgoing President, Mr Chiam

Yung Sheng. In his speech, he thanks every executive board member for their hardwork and contribution

toward the club and he wishes all the best for every committee member in their studies. The meeting is

then continued with UNITEN ICE Design Competition prize giving ceremony by Ir Dr Ooi and Miss Ean

Lee Woen (Advisor of UNITEN ICE Student Chapter) to all the winners for design competition. Then, a

slide show prepared by publicity director Mr Chong Jan Yang based on the activities organized

by the ICE student chapter throughout the year was projected and shown to the members and

students.

After the slides show, plaque and certificate giving ceremony to pay tribute to the old executive

board members and appointment letter to the new executive board members are given out by Ir Dr Ooi to

the members. A token of appreciation is then given by outgoing President Mr Chiam Yung Sheng to Ir Dr

Ooi and Miss Ean Lee Woen and the meeting ended with photo session and light refreshment prepared by

the executive board members.

With the aim to bring the Student Chapter to greater heights, the new President of the UNITEN

ICE Student Chapter 2013/2014, Mr Niel Liew, together with his new executive board members was

elected to manage the Student Chapter for the coming term. On the whole, the progress of the annual

general meeting had been smooth. The overall objective of the meeting had been achieved. It gave the

ordinary members a chance to be more involved in the behind-the-scene affairs of the club and

strengthening the relationship between them and the club’s executive board members.
