About the IB Interactive Oral ActivityThis component is based on the core: social relationships.A series of interactive activities will be carried out in the classroom during the course and assessed by the teacher. The highest of the three marks will be submitted as the final mark for the interactive oral.

Assessment criteria are used to assess the interactive oral activity, which is awarded a total of 10 marks.

There are two assessment criteria:

Criterion A Productive skills: 5 marks

Criterion B Interactive and receptive skills: 5 marks

Dear students,

Your upcoming evaluation is a debate, in which you will need to use argumentative

language to express your ideas and points of view regarding the topic:” This House believes

that women have genuinely equal opportunities”. You will be working in groups of four

(there will be one group with three members). You will be assessed both individually and

collaboratively.

Instructions

1. Get in groups.

2. Do an online research on the topic. Choose at least three different sources (audio/visual).

Consider information and arguments which are FOR and AGAINST the topic.

3. Complete the research jotter in this booklet. Write down any other important information

that you find useful to construct your arguments.

4. Write down the links to the websites from which you took the information.

5. One day before the actual debate, your team will be informed if you will be FOR or

AGAINST the motion. This day, you will also be informed of which other team you will be

debating against.

6. The day of the debate, you may have some notes with you. However, you will get points

discounted if you read excessively.

DEBATE ROLESWrite the names of the members of the group who will perform each role.A) Opening Statement Presenter:

Gathers the main arguments into an introductory statement.  Does not give specific information; just says "this is true because of A and B and C."

B) Topic Presenter:

Presents the main arguments for the team.  He gives specific details that prove A and B and C.

C) Rebuttal Presenter:

Answers the arguments of the other team.  This presenter must take notes as the other team is presenting their arguments and respond to every argument, using specific information to disprove them.

D) Closing Statement Presenter:

Presents the closing arguments for the team.  Repeats the main idea for this and this and these reasons.
