Authority

Whitehouse.gov

It is pretty obvious that the white house is the authoritative figure on

this website.

Angelfire.com

Angelfire is the authoritative figure on this website. They are a free host for

anyone who wishes to build a website.

Accuracy

Whitehouse.gov

This website is very accurate without links to other resources beyond the website. It is a government website proven by the .gov suffix and it was

meant specifically provide background information on all of the

presidents of the United States.

The website states the information regarding Abraham Lincoln came

from a reliable source from the white house and provides bibliographic

information on the source.

Angelfire.com

This website is very questionable when it comes to whether or not it is

a probable source. First off it is hosted for free on Angelfire, which any person in the world can two.

Secondly it has advertisements all over the place.

The information does appear to be in depth and comprehensive, so I dug deeper to find how well I could rely on it. I was surprised to find a full

bibliography on the information, but the website lacks parenthetical

citations, or tie-ins to the sources.

Currency

Whitehouse.gov

When I investigated the page there was no updated last information but, at the bottom of the web page, the

bibliography information says that the source that the information came

from was published in 2009 by the White House Historical Association.

Angelfire.com

This website states clearly that the information was last updated August 21st, 2005 at the bottom of the page.

Objectivity

Whitehouse.gov

The White House Historical Association was responsible for the information published on the website. So if there is any bias on the information, it is American.

Angelfire.com

The information published on this website was collected from a very large group of proven sources all referenced in the bibliography page.

Which site would I choose?

Whitehouse.gov

This source would be the one that I would use for my students to

research any of the presidents on the United States for solid, reliable information. Almost always, for

research purposes websites that end in .gov are going to be the most

accurate.

I would not entirely rule out the second web page, but I would be very careful to double check any facts that are used on that page, before accepting them as facts.
