Morning
This month our visitors from Bongani High School joined us
for a week. They took part in lessons and visited Edinburgh,
Glasgow and St Andrews. There was a farewell ceilidh on
Wednesday evening and tears as they said goodbye to
the newly formed friendships. Our young people look for-
ward to visiting them in South Africa in February.
As you know, we are in the early stages of design for the project to replace our
building with an exciting and modern new facility. In October the 12 week Pre-
Application Consultation period will start. This is part of the statutory planning
process for a major project like this and will involve a public event. We will keep
you informed with dates so you can come along to see the outline proposals
and share your thoughts.
I wish you a good October break and look forward to a busy new term.
Dear Parents and Carers,
September has been a very busy month as you will see
from the variety of stories inside this month’s newsletter.
Mr Swinney visited us on the 6th September on pages 2
and 3 you will see more photos of the departments that
he visited.
We held an evening session for parents of senior pupils
about getting the most out of their exams. This was very
well received. This week on Wednesday evening we
are meeting S1 parents and on Thursday evening we
are holding an event for seniors and parents about
“moving on “including the UCAS process
Our PTA held a Bingo Tea on Friday 20
September and raised £518.

Mr John Swinney Deputy First Minister of Scotland and Cabinet Secretary for Education and
Skills came to visit us on Friday 6 September. He met young people from across a variety of
departments.

Music Department News
Some of the topics we study in S2 are sampling/cover versions and how they differ. Here we use the Bass line
of Pachelbel’s Canon in D which has been sampled so many times, to help us compose our own Class Rap…!
One of Mr Kelman’s S2 classes were very privileged when Molly took her harp into class to demonstrate
playing the piece in its original way. What a wonderful sight and sound it was…!
Thank you, Molly, for carrying it into school, and for demonstrating your skills so professionally. Very well done...!

We were very privileged to be invited to Perth’s new recording studio, situated at Friarton Busi-ness Park. Ex PHS pupil Kerr McColl and his part-ner Charlotte both studied Music and Sound Technology at Perth UHI. Having both taught in the area for nearly 2 years they have decided to venture into business together, opening record-ing and rehearsal facilities. Mr Kelman, Mrs Black and pupils from S3 – S6 thoroughly en-joyed the tour and the Q and A session after-wards. We wish them all the very best in their new venture and thank them for their invita-tion. Here are our hosts and some of our musicians enjoying the facilities.

Autumn 2019: The Garden Project
If you have seen lots of greenery going around the school this term it will probably be a veg box being delivered
to a member of staff. We have had a good crop of plums and lettuces and the apples are ripening. We are still
busy digging up and picking our vegetables, (especially the Kale) but everything is late and our allotment gar-
den hasn’t been as productive as it was last year.
Earlier in the year Beautiful Perth Volunteers came and delivered top soil and helped us to fill up our raised vege-
table beds. My gardening group and student volunteers sowed seeds and planted, weeded, watered and
tended the beds throughout the summer term. One of the benefits of this Summer was that I didn’t have to
come in to do too much watering.
We will continue to harvest our fruit and veggies to sell and make healthy dishes this Autumn .Without the hard
work from students and Beautiful Perth we would not have produced such tasty vegetables. My sincere thanks
to all who helped in the garden this year and have bought our produce. Mrs Egginton

On Monday 23rd September, Perth High School hosted a very successful NHS led blood donation event. Many
pupils and staff took part in the event over the busy session with 4 bays being used constantly from 10.30-1.30.
4 Pupil Health Ambassadors, who plan to enter Healthcare Professions, helped Mrs Shenton to organise the
event. Pictured below are 3 of the Health Ambassadors – Sam E, Catriona D and Zoe D. Sophie R was unable to
attend on the day due to work experience .

The S1 activity day in Stanley Mills was great fun. I was particularly impressed by
the team work shown in the afternoon Egg Drop challenge. Lots of problem solv-
ing and collaborative working.
Congratulations to Rory M (pictured below) who won the first British race (U18) in
the British Cyclo-cross series in Derby this weekend. It was a tough race with the
best British and several Belgian riders racing. Awesome!
