Greeting Parishioners! Evening Praise: Kick-Off Edition Be my guest as we begin the 2017-2018 music ministry season right here at our amazing parish! This Wednesday, September 6 at 6:00pm. Don’t forget to bring some friends. Please RSVP by this Tuesday, September 5 using the online form found at www.stjudedewitt.com/evening-praise. We will experience scripture, sharing and song along with some faith, food and fellowship! Welcome Weekend Next weekend is welcome weekend. Please check out the Music Ministry display and introduce yourself to me. In my column for next weekend, I will highlight a program for children’s music. Our one day only Children’s Music Camp was truly a success and there is a thirst from our parish children to share their musical talents. Stay tuned! Voices of Hope… …is our ensemble that provides musical support at parish funerals. We will be having a music rehearsal on Saturday, September 23 at 1:00pm in the church. Come share your voice or instrument! Music Ministry Webpages Take some time to explore the Music Ministry part of our parish website: www.stjudedewitt.com/music-ministry. You will discover descriptions of the different ensembles, order of services, online registrations and much more. See you in Church! Patrick

P.S.—I need a title for my column...any suggestions?

https://vimeo.com/180804716 Roll out for this new 'free' subscription service will be September 9 & 10 our Welcome Weekend which will highlight all the various programs from pre-K to adult that we will offer in the new year.

Along with FORMED, Mary Lippert will be offering a new program called Little Lambs for stay-at-home parents with small children and a revised Youth Fusion. Hallie Card will be starting up a program for Young Adults (ages 19-35, married or unmarried) that will provide some social gatherings that will entail some spiritual or faith enhancing opportunities. Patrick Paddock has been active in recruiting musicians and singers for the various choirs as well as reaching out to our children and youth to get involved in enhancing our music for their particular age groups. Terry Humenik has begun a year-around R.C.I.A. process (with a team of people) whereby those interested in knowing more about or joining the Catholic Church do so, at anytime during the year when they are ready.

All in all, I am excited about these new programs as well as along with all the other things we offer and do here in and outside our parish community.

So I encourage you and your family to set aside some time after the Mass you attend next weekend and come back to the Parish Center for a coffee, juice & donut while visiting the program areas to see how the good works of the Lord can support you and your family in faith.

Next Sunday’s Scriptures A reflection on the readings for Mass Sunday, September 10

Let our lives be rooted in love. Today’s second reading reminds us that our lives are to be rooted in love, for love fulfills the law. More specifically, the more we are able to love God with our whole being and to love our neighbor as ourselves, the more we will keep the commandments and experience the blessings God wishes to bestow on us such as peace, joy and fulfillment. The first reading, Ezekiel 33:7-9, tells of God appointing Ezekiel as watchman over Israel. Saint Paul tells the people of Rome, Romans 13:8-10, that loving one another summarizes the many laws they have concerning how to get along with each other. In the Gospel, Matthew 18:15-20, Jesus outlines a process to be followed when one Christian sins against another brother or sister in the Lord. QUESTION: How have you been able to follow Christ more closely because others patiently loved you?

If you are able to fill a position that has “sub requested” listed, please log in to Ministry Scheduler Pro.

Flu Shots are Coming! And flu is on its way too. We have local pharmacies coming to the parish at Welcome Weekend and again in October to provide flu shots to anyone interested. Please bring your insurance card and if you are under 18 years old you must have a parent with you. The flu is a virus that is often just a bad cold but it can be deadly even for healthy people but those most at risk are the very young, the elderly and those with a chronic health condition such as diabetes, COPD, or those receiving chemo. Even if you are not at high risk have a flu shot so that you do not expose someone who could suffer severely from the flu.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome Next weekend we will have our traditional Welcome Weekend when we roll out the red carpet and welcome everyone back into the very active life of the parish during the school year. This is also our opportunity to welcome people who are new to the parish or just visiting, and to greet the parishioners who have been here for a few or many years. We invite you to join us in the Community Center after all Masses to share in some refreshments and fellowship. Be sure to stop in at some of the tables that will be set up

to help parishioners from infancy through senior years to grow in faith, to encounter Christ in their lives and in their service and to take part in the liturgies of our faith community. One of the ways to answer the question that Mass can be “boring” is to serve in some capacity as a liturgical minister. The Mass can become a more personal expression of praise to God and being part of a

worshipping community for those who participate in making Mass happen. We are in need of lectors, ushers, Eucharistic ministers, greeters, Mass Coordinators, Altar servers, choir members, musicians, to make our worship of God the best it can be.

Helping the People of Houston

Hurricane Harvey has caused disastrous events in Houston Texas and the surrounding areas. If you want to help these people who have lost so much the best way is to donate to Catholic Charities USA who will use the funds to provide needed assistance while the people try to put their lives back together again. This web site will allow you to earmark your donation for Houston — https://catholiccharities.org/donate-now-and-help-
