Update on Renew My Church

The Archdiocese has been reviewing various parishes in anticipation of their activation in the Renew My Church program. The Renew My Church program is designed to deal with the shortage of priest and to look at the number of Parishes and Churches that the Archdiocese can service. The Archdiocese is working with various

parishes to prepare them for the changes that occur from the Renew My Church process. I was contacted a few weeks ago regarding St. Pius X Parish. While we have budgeted a break even result for the Fiscal year, the Archdiocese has asked that we make some structural changes to put the parish on firmer financial footing. The goal is to reduce the costs at the parish in order to create a surplus. This will allow the our parish to timely pay all our bills and to avoid any additional borrowings from the Archdiocese. The following changes are being made: •We will be contracting with the Archdiocese Parish Operations Service Center for all our accounting needs. The position of Business Manager, currently held by Steve Ryan will be eliminated as of December 14, 2018. •Our maintenance staff will be reducing their hours and the number of staff. Effective December 14, 2018 the Head of Maintenance held by John Babinec will be eliminated and the hours of the remaining Maintenance staff will be reduced. •The Parish Office hours are being reviewed; a new schedule is being determined and will be in effect December 17, 2018. The above changes are designed to allow our parish to operate with fewer hours and will go a long way in strengthening our Parish in advance of Renew My Church. I want to thank John Babinec (employed since 1977) and Steve Ryan (employed since 2011) for all the work they have done over the years and I wish them well. As we look at a smaller staff, I will be relying on you, the parishioners, to help me continue the many ministries and programs we have here at St. Pius X Parish. Please take some time to pray and consider volunteer opportunities as we re-invent how St Pius X Parish operates. Yours in Christ,

Fr. Tony Markus

Thursday, Nov 22, 2018 THANKSGIVING DAY Gratitude is good for the body and soul The gratitude you feel on Thanksgiving is good for your mental health. Practicing daily gratitude, psychologists say, results in higher levels of energy, alertness, enthusiasm, and determination. Better yet, people who feel grateful are more likely to feel loved and repay kindnesses. Benedictine Brother David Stendl-Rast, one of the founders of gratefulness.org, says that, by freely choosing gratitude, we can “create a better life for ourselves and for others.” Now there’s something to be thankful for. TODAY'S READINGS: Sirach 50:22-24; 1 Corinthians 1:3-9; Luke 17:11-19 (943-947). "Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?"

ABORTION INDUSTRY EXPOSED! For years we have been told that legal abortions were necessary for the health and well-being of the mother. It is a lie. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, co-founder of the National Abortion Rights Action League, who later became a Christian pro-life activist, admitted that his group blatantly lied about the number of women dying from illegal abortions. The truth is only a small percentage (less than one-tenth of 1 person by some counts) of the 1.3 million abortions in the U.S. each year are to save the mother’s life. Instead statistics suggest that 85 percent of all abortions are performed as a means of birth control and are three times more likely to be by a woman on Medicaid. Family planning and abortion clinics in the U.S. are a $2 billion a year industry with a 1.3 percent growth over 5 years, with 40 percent of the country’s abortions being performed by Planned Parenthood. Abortion clinics, by and large are profit centers that don’t care a lick about the woman and her rights. They are all about turning a quick buck. Fortunately, slowly but surely, the dirty secrets are being exposed to the public It’s about time! **There is no more important issue than restoring the protection of the law to pre-natal infants. When this happens and God asks each of us, “What have you done with the gifts that I have given you?” How will you respond? THE INNER WORD—What’s in your heart?

•In the Letter to the Hebrews Saint Paul contrasts two types of priesthood: one that is futile and one that is effective. How often do I feel my ministry is futile? In what ways am I effective? •Jesus is the priest whose sacrifice is effective once and for all. Do I align myself and ministry with what I know about Jesus? •This week the readings convey a sense of imminent crisis, a realization that life has come to a point of fundamental decision. Do I recognize those decision moments in m own life? How about in the lives of people I encounter in my role as minister?
