Welcome to North Park Covenant Church online! We’re glad you’re here.

For your prayers this week: Sandy Edstrom’s friend Justine, mourning the unexpected passing of her husband, John; Pete and Cindy Ekstrand, missionaries in Congo, preparing to retire and return to the U.S.; John and Letha Kerl, regional missionary coordinators for Europe, moving back to Washington State to be closer to Letha’s parents, and continuing their work from there; North Park University, as the leadership and students discern the next right step in regards to the fall semester; our brown and Black brothers and sisters, who continue to face racism, ignorance, and hatred at the hands of others; our nation, as we continue to reel following the murder of George Floyd; family and friends of Bob Thornbloom, who passed away on June 3; Jim Hosek, as he undergoes chemo-therapy for pancreatic cancer; Lisa Applequist, completing her second master’s degree in Education Leadership at Roosevelt University and working to resurrect her Spanish-speaking skills to use this knowledge as a school administrator; Herb Hedstrom, continuing treament for metastatic prostate cancer; Wilma Cruz, continuing to battle a number of health issues; Lori Johnson’s brother-in-law Bob, hospitalized due to confusion, high blood sugar, and the inability to walk on his own; Jim and Andy Meyer’s cousin’s son, Andrew Lamb, undergoing physical and occupational therapy to regain the ability to stand and walk; Paul and Sheryl Noren, Covenant missionaries to Congo who have been separated for more than four months due to COVID (he in Congo, she in Michigan); Kim and Joel Delp, Covenant missionaries to Ecuador, working to manage their family and their ministries during this time of quarantine; Kristen Westphal, whose mother is recovering from hip surgery, and whose father is on hospice care; Dick Lucco, continuing cancer treatment; Barb Goode’s cousin David Jeffery, on disability due to decline caused by ALS

Today begins week 25 of Heartwalking the Neighborhood: Please be in prayer for the 5400 block of north Kedzie (west side).

On June 24, we will continue our conversation on Faithfully Responding to Racial Injustice. Whether you made it to the first gathering or not, please plan to join us at 7 pm using this Zoom link. So we have a common starting point for our conversation, please view the following two 20- minute videos, which come from the United Methodist Church series Vital Conversations on Race and Racism: Deconstructing White Privilege, with Dr. Robin DiAngelo and Meaningful Conversations About Race, with Rev. Dr. David Anderson Hooker. In addition, we will have a resource “show and tell” where you will have the opportunity to share any additional reading, videos, blogs, and movies that have been helping you be a more faithful follower of Jesus in this moment.

The second half of the annual meeting of the congregation will take place on Sunday, June 28, directly after the online church service. The purpose of this meeting will be for election of officers, board members, and committee members. The ballot is included on the next page. If you see an opening you are willing to fill on a board or committee, please email Susan Dawson at [email protected] with this information. The meeting will be held via Zoom. Please watch for updates.

North Park Covenant Church will be hosting Vacation Bible School 2020 VIRTUALLY this year! We hope your kids can join us in this different way during the week of August 3-7, 2020! It will be an engaging week of crazy, goofy fun as we learn about God’s faithfulness to Noah and Moses, Ruth and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and, ultimately—in and through—Jesus! We are asking for just a $5 donation per kid (or $10 per family) to help cover the cost of a CD and craft supplies (which an adult will need to pick up in person prior to the week of VBS). Payments can be made online at www.npcovenant.org/online-giving. Please select Vacation Bible School from the “Select a Fund” drop-down menu.

Registration is required if you want the crafts/CD, etc. This is the link to register your child(ren), and more details will be available in the coming weeks.

We welcome all people to begin or deepen their relationship with Christ through worship and study. We invite all believers to fully participate in the life and ministry of our church as members, leaders,

and lay staff. We celebrate the gifts and presence of diverse Christians among us—whether those differences be race, ethnicity, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability,

or socioeconomic status. We are blessed by our diversity and are unified in Christ.
