My mission as a teacher is...to empower independent learners to think critically, deeply, and collaboratively about topics inliterature and be able to develop and support their ideas through written and oral expression, as wellas, develop college-ready/AP skills.
Expectations Below you will find the expectations in our classroom. I'm pretty easy going if you follow these guidelines
and conduct yourself with grace and maturity.
Rules
Cell Phone Policy Studies show that cell phones are having a
negative impact on our productivity, focus, and emotional well being. In ourclassroom we will use cell phones toincrease our productivity, but we will notlet them reduce our focus. There is a cellphone holder to keep phones when we arenot using them in class. If you choose tokeep your phone on you and are caughtusing it or it goes off, you may have thephone taken and/or receive a zero on anyclasswork/tests/quizzes. If your phonegoes off in the holder, there will not be anyconsequence.

If a LONG TERM assignment (paper, project, etc) is due ona day you are absent, you must get it in ON TIME. What Can You Expect from AP Literature?
Grading Information
Plagiarism and cheating are serious infractions, one that at theuniversity level often carries serious consequences, includingremoval from the university. At the high school level you are stillgrowing and learning, that is why it is vital to keep the lines ofcommunication open. If you are concerned that you could betoeing the line of plagiarism/cheating, ask. I am here to help andwe can all learn together. It is better safe than sorry.
Using someone else’s work. letting someone else do your work, disseminating test/quiz questions is not acceptable.Anyone caughtcheating or aiding someone in cheating will receive a zero for theassignment.
Plagiarism is defined as using someone else’s words or ideaswithout giving them proper credit. In all writings, you are expectedto use your own words and ideas (with the exception of internalcitations in formal writing). Anyone using the ideas/words fromsomeone else with the intent to pass them off as their own willreceive a zero. Be sure to use Turnitin.comto check your papersahead of time.
Student Handbook also addresses this issue. Please read it forfurther information.
Plagairism and Cheating Policy
Grading Policy
Grades are based on a points earned divided by points possibleformula.
+/- are given and count on your informed GPA
AP class designation gets you 1.0 bonus on your GPA
Grades are based on a total points formual (pts earned/ptspossible). There are no weighted categories, but assginmentstypically are scaled based on difficulty.
*Homework: 10-25 pts *Quizzes: 25-50 pts
*Tests: 75-150 pts *Papers: 100-200 pts
*Projects: 100-200 pts
Extra Credit Policy Extra credit is rare and not given to replace missing work and/or
poor test scores. Extra credit is an option and not required.Extra credit will not be accepted if late, unless due to an
excused absence. NEVER ask for extra credit.
A significant out of class reading load. This will be most of your "homework". A test at the end of every unit. Most of these tests are two-day affairs. Day 1is often an AP-styled on demand essay, while Day 2 consists of an objectivetest. AP essays scored on based on the AP 9 pt rubric. In the 1st semester theseare scored out of 50 pts, but in the second semester they are scored out of100 pts. AP multiple choice question practice. These are typically done in class. Inthe first semester you will work in groups or with partners, using AP litterms packet. In the second semester, we will gradually remove supports, until you're doing them on your own, without support or a grade pad. One to two non-AP essays per quarter. These essays will focus on skills youwill use in college (e.g. annotated bibliographies, position papers, responsesto literature). Oral and written development and support of ideas/claims. We will scaffoldour writing starting with prompt response and thesis creation, working ourway up to writing AP essays. Socratic seminars will also play an integral partof classroom experience. A challenge. You will be pushed out of your comfort zone and there will betimes it will not be "easy", but know that I am always here to help and willnot let you drown in the proverbial deep end. If you put forth the effort, I willalways be there ot help.
