Training

5 day Training Course plus 1 day theory & practical tests

Lorry Loader/ HIAB Training course

This course covers the basic use of Lorry loader fitted with either a hook, clamshell bucket or a hydraulic clamp.

Requirements :- for a novice 5 days training, H & S Test on CPCS route @ £1200 + vat

Skip Handler training course

Requirements :- for a novice 4 days training, H & S Test on CPCS route @ £1200 + vat

**If experienced candidates this will be different, where the CPCS theory test will be £100 + vat, and practical being £400 + vat

CPCS Ride on Roller Training

CPCS Requirements :- Minimum of 4 days training on the machine, plus the H&S test at the Driver Test Centre.

CPCS Slinger/Signaller

Basic Course Contents: - Identification marks, test certification & thorough examination of documents. Identifying load weights & centre of gravity how to attain load

weights, estimation if necessary & centres of gravity. How to sling various loads including balanced, unbalanced & loose - different common slinging methods to lift above loads. How to deliver signals to the lifting appliance operator using different forms of communication hand signals, radio communication etc.

Requirements:- 3 days training, 1 day for theory & practical tests, and H & S Test.

Reach Truck & Counterbalance Fork Lift Truck Training

Novices

Course includes pre-use inspection, Visual and operational checks also fault reporting procedures, Candidates also shown how to correctly record information using pre-use check sheets. Use of manufacturers stated lifting capacity, Details explained in depth and how to read such capacity plates, De-rating included for use of attachments etc. Basic engineering principles of c/balance and hydraulic operating systems and stability triangle etc Longitudinal and lateral instabilities etc

Abrasive Wheels

This course is designed to provide an understanding of the Abrasive Wheels regulations and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 instructing delegates in all aspects of the correct mounting, setting and use of Abrasive Wheels, and hiring of hand held electrical and ICE powered machines. (Appointed Persons).

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

This course covers the basic knowledge required by anyone who directs traffic or plant at a construction site or workplace.

Water Hygiene

Any person working on restricted operations sites such as service reservoirs, pumping stations, treatment works, wells, spring and boreholes and working on the network of water mains and service pipes must be in possession of a National Water Hygiene card. The same training package is delivered to both direct employees of water companies, and all contractors that work on the restricted operations sites including self-lay organisations working on new developments.

A National Water Hygiene card lasts for three years from date of training and provides on-site evidence that an individual has demonstrated an appropriate level of knowledge and awareness with regards to hygiene issues.

NVQ s delivered at Shorecliffe Training Ltd

NVQ Level 2 Plant Operations

The Red Trained Operator Card has a life span of two years, and the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) needs to be gained to progress onto the CPCS Competent Operator Card (Blue Card). If the NVQ is not completed within the given time, candidates will end up having to redo the tests completed to gain the red card. These tests will be chargeable at current rates.

This is an NVQ which will be beneficial when wanting to increase your qualifications which may further your chances of gaining specific work.

B & E Trailer Towing

Did you pass your driving test after January 1997??

If so, to enable you to tow a trailer/caravan/horsebox you need to attend training and to be tested to add B + E category to your existing driving licence. This is a legal requirement.

Costs for the 2 candidates to attend either together:-

H.G.V Drivers C.P.C (Certificate of Professional

Competence Periodic Training)

All HGV licence holders including 7.5 tonne if driving for reward must receive periodic training i.e. 35 hours of approved training in the course of a five year cycle in blocks of no less than 7 hours, for the duration of the licence. In other words one days training every year for the life of the licence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I have to do the training if I hardly ever drive a HGV?

A. If someone drives occasionally (e.g. once a year) for revenue earning purposes they will still be required to complete Periodic Training.

Q. Are there any exemptions from doing the training?

A. Yes, as listed below. 1. There is something called an incidental driver e.g. a

bricklayer who may carry materials to a site but who does not get paid for the driving element. In this case the bricklayer would be exempt. For more info on this exemption visit www.transportoffice.gov

2. Vehicles with a maximum speed not exceeding 45 Kph 3. Vehicles used by the armed forces, civil defence, and emergency services. 4. Vehicles undergoing road tests for technical development, repair or

maintenance. 5. Vehicles used in a state of emergency. 6. Vehicles used in the course of driving lessons or examinations. 7. Vehicles used for non-commercial carriage of passenger or goods for

personal use. 8. Vehicles used for carrying material or equipment to be used by the driver in

the course of his or her work, providing that driving the vehicles is not the drivers principle activity.

Q. Are the requirements of the course any different if I am a new driver ?

A. No. Everyone has the same standards to be met, as long as the 35 hours periodic training is completed by 10th September 2014.

Q. I already have a CPC for transport operations, do I need the Driver CPC?

A. Yes, if you wish to drive a HGV above and including 7.5 tonne. The transport operation CPC is a completely separate qualification.

Q. Can I work as a driver without a Driver CPC?

A. No, unless in exempted circumstances.

Q. Can I do it as a five day block course if I wanted to?

A. Yes, we can offer to do the 35 hours as a block course on five consecutive days.

Q. Do you run the courses on weekends?

A. Yes, we run them on Saturdays and Sundays as well as weekdays.

Q. How will Driver CPC holding be enforced on the road?

A. In the same way as holding an appropriate driving licence, particularly by the police, VOSA, and DVLA. If it is not current then a penalty will be issued.

Q. Can drivers do the same courses each year?

A. Theoretically, yes. However, employers and drivers will be seeking value for money and repetition of the same courses will not be beneficial.

Q. What if an HGV driver completed their 35 hours of Periodic Training early, say in 2010?

A. This driver will be sent their driver qualification card in 2010 when they have completed their 35 hours of training. This card will have an expiry date of September 2019. This means that in order to renew the card in 2019 the driver will need to have completed another 35 hours of training between 2014 and 2019.

Q. Do I have to do any exams to pass the course?

A. No, as it is not as pass or fail course. It is recorded as hours of attendance.

Ultimately, it is up to the driver to decide if they are covered by any of the above exemptions, and if necessary, justify it to the competent authority.
