Dear Friends in Christ,

May you feel God’s generous love present in you and your loved ones!

It was one of those AHA moments, one of those revelatory simple things that we normally do. I was calculating the amount of tip, after I had my lunch at a Chinese buffet restaurant. It was self-service, but I had to tip anyway. The eye opener? The tip amount was higher than the money we have for candle money in Church. Candle money, not collection money.

So, there I was puzzling over this mathematical calculation. Is it alright to tip when you served yourself? Are the electric candles less valuable than the time the servers took my plate out, the only time I saw them?

Translate that to the meal we have every weekend—the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We all know that the Mass is of tremendous value to our souls and our future, because it relates us intimately with our loving Savior. I don’t serve myself at Mass. We all do. That’s is why it becomes a more powerful form of prayer because we all pray as a family, as a community. It is not a buffet meal, but somehow a mirror of what a heavenly meal should be—nourishing, uplifting, inspiring, uniting.

And how about THE tip? No tips for the servers or ministers there. Just our collection envelope and gifts, which I know amounts to more than our electric candles donation, which I hope is more than our usual restaurant tips. They are monetary donations from what we have, given from a cheerful heart, for a bigger purpose and for a greater goal.

God loves you always and in all ways!

The 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal is experiencing a very challenging year thus far. Contribuons are down 20% across the Diocese. The Appeal is the source of support for all our diocesan works and ministries. Please take a moment to consider how you can help if you have not done so already. Your parcipaon is essenal if we want to connue our ministries as we have done. Thank you for your consideraon. May the blessings of the Easter Season be yours.

POPE FRANCIS PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR MAY

Here’s One Positive Encouragement

From your fellow parishioner

As a member of Our Lady of Hope parish, are you a Weaver or a Ripper? A Weaver serves their fellow parishioners and neighbors (Humanity) by weaving kindness, praying, showing goodness and assistance to their fellow man, sowing the light of Jesus into the fabric of parish life and humanity.

Weavers act in so many ways as they pray, give time for parish needs or simply by helping someone cross the street, opening a door for another or just sharing a smile. It does not matter, it's a natural gesture of good will that shines through showing that you are a Christian.

Weavers also do big things for their parish and neighbors (Humanity) creating projects that improve the quality of parish life and in the wider community, creating programs that help the homeless, the unborn, seniors, youth, children, families, and the environment. All this helps to strengthen the fabric of parish life and humanity.

Rippers are negative, they allude fear and insecurity wherever they go, gaining energy through hate and slander. They constantly criticize whatever is stated and find joy in causing pain to others. Rippers lust for a fight through friction and intimidation. Each of their acts rips tiny holes in parish life and humanity.

As a Weaver, do you increase the light of Jesus or as a Ripper, do you destroy Jesus' goodness by poking holes in His teachings. So, what are you, a WEAVER or a RIPPER? If you are a Christian and a Catholic, you should be a WEAVER.

Spring into Summer hosted by the Monmouth County Board of Catholic Charies will be held on:

Thursday , June 20 7-11 PM Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club.

Enjoy cocktails, dinner, mega 50/50 raffle and gi aucon in a great party atmosphere with dancing to the music of Brian Kirk & the Jirks. Tickets are $150 and are available at CatholicChariesTrenton.org or call Jennifer Leip at 609-394-5181 X 1137. Reservaons are limited.
