WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA is pleased to announce Scholarship opportunities to 2011High School Graduates in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Sumter counties who planon majoring in (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or Science/MathEducation.

In order to be eligible you must meet the income criteria below and fill out the attachedapplication.

WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA SCHOLARSHIP AWARD2011

Each youth applying for a WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA (WCF) scholarship will berequired to write an essay. The essay component is a major factor in the award process.Please select from the following list of topics:

y Why is it important for students to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology,Engineering and Math) fields within the US? What are some of the most excitingcareers within STEM in your opinion and why?

y Who or what encouraged you to pursue your STEM related career? What is yourplanned STEM major? What discouragements or road block will you encounter whilepursuing a STEM major/career? How do you plan to overcome these road blocks?

y Today, the United States relies heavily on crude oil and fossil fuels to generate itselectricity. The result is a system that lacks diversity and security. In addition, itthreatens the health of our citizens, jeopardizes the stability of the Earth's climate,and robs future generations of clean air, clean water, and energy independence.

What does this statement mean to you?

y The unrest in the Middle East and surrounding areas are sending economicshockwaves to the rest of the world. How is this affecting our dependency on oilconsumption? What role does Alternative, Renewable or Sustainable Energies playon our oil dependency? Is grid parity affected by these current events

y Where do you see yourself in 20 years? What role will STEM play in your life? Whatnew advances will we see within STEM technology? (The word STEM is broad;please define it as you see it; perhaps focusing on one area within Science,Technology, Engineering, and Math or your chose major)

Essays should be:1) Type written;2) 12 point font;3) Single spaced; and,4) No more than 500 words.

All applications and essays must be submitted to WCF no later than 5:00 PM on April 22nd,2011.
