2017 Paul Rudolph Scholarships The Sarasota Architectural Foundation’s (SAF) Paul Rudolph Scholarship provides financial assistance to students enrolled in either a Bachelor of Architecture program or Masters of Architecture program. • $1,000.00 is awarded to a graduating high school senior entering a NAAB-accredited professional degree in architecture • $5,000.00 is awarded to a student enrolled in a NAAB-accredited professional degree (5-year BA or BA + MA) in architecture. Eligibility for High School Seniors: Applicant is a graduate of a Sarasota, Manatee, Hillsborough, Charlotte, Lee, or Collier County, Florida Public High School Applicant is in need of financial assistance Applicant is entering a NAAB-accredited professional program in architecture in the USA Applicant demonstrates academic excellence and outstanding design talent and has a 3.5 GPA when applying. Submission RequirementsThe following is required from each candidate:� Official high school or college transcript through last

grading period prior to date of application.� Two letters of recommendation from high school or

architecture faculty. � A personal statement, 1–2 pages, detailing your interests

(activities, honors, volunteer work), career plans relatedto architecture and your need for financial assistance.

� Financial statement (form attached)� Freehand drawing on an 81⁄2” x 11” page depicting any

subject, cannot be computer-aided.� Digital portfolio of student work, 2 to 3 projects, may be

submitted in PDF format, maximum size 20MB. Preferredsize is 81⁄2” × 11” inches (11” x 14” maximum). The digital portfolio, on CD, DVD or flash drive, may bemailed to: 2017 SAF - Paul Rudolph Scholarship, 1235Center Place, Sarasota, FL 34236 or Dropbox/emailedto [email protected]. Portfolios must be clearly markedwith applicants contact information, project date, site,concept and short narrative about the project.

AwardsThe scholarship awards are based on financial need,grades, personal statement, letters of recommendation andquality of student work.

• $1,000.00 award to a graduating high school senior entering a NAAB-accredited professional degree in architecture

• $5,000.00 award to a student enrolled in a NAAB-accredited professional degree (5-year BA or BA + MA) in architecture.

The scholarship recipients will be announced June 12, 2017.

QuestionsThe Sarasota Architectural Foundation (SAF) has soleauthority to grant the scholarship. Applications are evalu-ated by members of the SAF - Paul Rudolph ScholarshipCommittee and SAF’s Advisory Council. The recipients areselected primarily on the basis of financial need, are gradu-ates of a Sarasota, Manatee, Hillsborough, Charlotte, Lee,or Collier County, Florida Public High School as well as onthe strength of the recommendations, academic perform-ance, personal statement and quality of student work.

All selections are final. Applications, artwork and attach-ments become the property of SAF.

Personal Essay (500 word maximum)Please write a comprehensive essay explaining your interests (activities, honors, volunteer work) and future career plans in architecture.Include a candid description of your life, explaining obstacles or “disadvantaged circumstances” you might have experienced. Use thefollowing as a framework for your essay.� What obstacles have you faced and overcome and those that remain?� How did you decide on architecture as a profession and what are your experiences?� After obtaining an architecture degree, how do you plan to use it?� How has architect Paul Rudolph’s work influenced your work?

2. Freehand DrawingPlease submit one 8½” x 11” freehand drawing of any theme (objects, buildings, people, self portrait, etc). Please do not send drafted floor plans or drawings done by computer-aided design (CAD). Please clearly mark drawing with your name,date completed and short description.
