WCEC will comply with ADS Combined Driving rules which include appendices for ArenaDriving Trials and Horse Driving Trials and can be found in the hard copy of the ADS rule book

or at americandrivingsociety.org/ADS_rulebook on pgs. 109-208. The term horse refers to any

equine. Failure to comply with the required safety rules may incur elimination or

disqualification.1. All persons on a horse-drawn vehicle are required at all times to wear a helmet with chin strap

    secured.

    2. All persons on a horse-drawn vehicle are required at all times to wear a medical arm band.

    3. All drivers are required to have a whip in hand while on the box (seat).

    4. A horse may never be left unattended and/or tied to a trailer or other object while hitched to a

    vehicle.

    5. While being hitched or whenever fully hitched to a vehicle, a horse must wear a bridle with

reins attached and passed through the saddle terrets.

    6. While hitching a horse to a vehicle, the driver/groom/knowledgeable person must hold the

    reins at all times.

    7. Once a horse is hitched to a vehicle, only one rein at a time may be adjusted.

    8. Navigators are mandatory for horses and large ponies in any obstacle competition and highly

recommended for the cones competition. Navigators are optional in cones and marathon

obstacles for single VSEs and single small ponies (120cm or smaller).

    9. A navigator is required in all phases of competition for any driver who is 14 yrs of age orunder.

    10. Training level competitors may not canter in marathon obstacles or cones.

    11. Passengers may not ride in the vehicle during competition, except for navigators.

WCEC sponsored driving events safety recommendations:1. All drivers read should and carefully consider the checklist for safety that the Carriage Driving

Association of America (CAA) lists in its Drive Smartly, Drive Safely brochure. This brochure

is available at Carriage Association of America. A copy will be available at the event.2. Whenever a horse is fully hitched or being hitched to a vehicle, a groom/navigator/

knowledgeable person should be at all times in attendance and able to render assistance if

    needed.

    3. A driver may only dismount from a vehicle when a groom/navigator/ knowledgeable person is

at the horses head or the reins are given to another responsible person on the vehicle.
