Ways My Magazine Represents Particular Social Groups

My media magazine represents some particular social groups but fails to represent the wider society. In my magazine I represent particular genders and age groups through the articles and images that I use. I have used both a mix of male and female models as the Dance genre is an even mix of both genders. However there is more male images in my magazine as they are artists. There are very few female artists in this genre so I used male models for that role. There is also no mix in the ethnicity of my models. This is because York is a predominantly white society and the genre is dominated by white artists. This make the representation of the audience and artists only partially accurate, which could have an influence on the audience that are prepared to read it as communities that are more diverse may not read it. This means that my magazine would appeal to the existing audience more and may not appeal to new readers. Another social group that is included heavily in my magazine is age. All of my models are young and this is because that is the age group of models that was available to me and also because the age group of the fans and musicians in the dance genre are young. I also picked this age group as the positive feedback from my surveys mostly came from people in that age group. Therefore I had this as my target audience and wrote my reader profile off this. I also wanted to use young models as they suit the style of magazine that I was trying to make.
