How does your product represent particular social groups? To display how I have represented a particular social group, I have compared the character represented within my magazine and a character represented in a mainstream magazine which is Hayley Williams in Kerrang Magazine, I did this because both magazines appeal to the same social groups researched carefully into social groups because if I got the wrong research it could lead to offending someone so I though carefully about what social groups I am representing. The social group my magazine represents is teenagers who are alternative but also who love rock music.

Facial Expression

• both models have a chocolate box pose, this signifies a welcoming and inviting pose but also shows individuality. It makes them look very angelic. This represents an image of people who like to stand out and be different and not follow the latest fashion and trends in music.

Camera shots

• Both characters are captured in medium shots meaning it focuses on their eye contact where most of the characters attitude comes from. You can also see my models makeup quite clearly this represents females in rock music because they usually wear thick heavy makeup.

Beliefs

• Having a woman at the front of a rock band is quite unusual because the job is usually done by men, the model on the front of Kerrang illustrates this as does my model because it shows women can do jobs men do. My model believes that you don’t need to loose self respect by taking your clothes off just to sell music, as long as you love knowing that your music can save lives. My model is a strong feminist and activist, which could inspire a variety of social groups.

Body language & appearance.

• Both models are leaning inwards to show they are intrigued but also give off a edgy ‘ I don’t care’ look. Both models have their hair backcombed and wearing casual clothing. This represents people who don’t try to look perfect all the time, they wear what they are comfortable in. They don’t dress to impress anyone but themselves.

Age.

My magazine is targeted at teenagers but also people in their early 20’s my magazine represents this by having the latest bands in because people around this age always are up to date on trends. Also my main article links in with age a lot because its about bullying, everyone in their life has been bullied at some point or maybe still are being bullied, my article shows that you shouldn’t stand for it or be embarrassed because it happens quite a lot. The language is quite informal and chatty throughout my magazine, because most people in this age range use text talk/slang. Finally most of the readers may be earning money through jobs, apprentiships or bursaries meaning they can spend money on buying the magazine, buying band tickets or merchandise.

Social Groups 1 & 2• My magazine represents social grades C1 and C2 this is people who

can work manually and collect a wage, this is represented by having upcoming gig events within my magazine so people are able to buy tickets. Also have discounts for fast food restaurants such as McDonalds because my primary target audience is based around people between the age of 16 and 19 meaning most of them will be students and will have ID cards. Another thing I have added to represent my target audience is features about new bands as well as old because teenagers are always on the lookout for new things to gossip about with their friends. My secondary audience is people between the ages of 20-25+ this may be people at university or have jobs meaning they will have some sort of income so they can buy my magazine of gig tickets which are featured. Also if they are over the age of 18 they can take part in some competition
