Activit* 0 - Transverve .aves 1the h!/an &ave2

Transverse waves are waves that move along a medium where the medium

moves perpendicular to the direction that the wave moves

Materials

15 to 20 students sitting in a row next to each other. There can be manystudents sitting in many rows just like at the football stadium which adds alittle excitement.

Instructions

1. tart at one end of the row and have the first students stand up and sitdown.

2. !ll other student in the row must wait and respond when the wave getsto them.

". #f students are to $uick to respond have them hold hands and close

Activity 2 : Longitudinal wave

! compression is characteri'ed by having a particle in the medium moveforward& bump into the next particle in the medium and then bounce back toits original position. This continues with each particle bumping its neighborand then returning to its original position thereby transmitting thedisturbance through the medium.

 Materials

! group of people seated side by side and shoulder to shoulder in a row.+eople sitting on a bench (long chair) placed next to each other are in thecorrect orientation for this demonstration.

Instructions

1. #nstruct a person on one side of the room to bend and gently bumpshoulders with their neighbor and return to their normal position.

2. The person bumped responds by bending to bump shoulders with thethird person in line and so on.
