Auto-recognition

The auto-recognition capability of the EXO Sonde ports helps to eliminate gaps in data. Plug in a sensor and automatically start logging data. There are microprocessors in the sensors and the Sonde. This allows communication between the two – simplifying the process for the user.

Monitoring Sinkhole Evolution

In February of 2014 a sinkhole opened and swallowed eight rare Corvettes at the National Corvette Museum. Since then, a diverse team of professionals have been working to better understand the collapse, and how to prevent it in the future. An EXO2 sonde has been deployed to monitor the water in an adjacent pond providing information about the natural formation of the sinkhole. “Partnerships like this…are the essence of collaborative scientific research, and allow us…to collect data and quickly put together information to inform how to move forward…” Dr. Jason Polk (Director, WKU CWRS)

Monitoring Nuclear Waste

In Cumbria, England – experts are attempting to safely decommission highly radioactive nuclear storage ponds. Despite the harsh conditions, the open ponds appear to intermittently bloom with a range of microorganisms that cloud the water. An EXO2 deployed with a ROV has greatly reduced the amount of time individuals have to spend at the ponds collecting samples. “It has been a common experience…to have to apply significant adaptations to electrical equipment, so that it is able to function correctly in a radioactive environment…However, the EXO sondes have performed very well ‘off the shelf’ which is a sign of good design.” Xavier Poteau, Sellafield Ltd.
