Catskill/Delaware Water Treatment, Ultraviolet Light Disinfection Facility, $1.3 billionValhalla, NY Construction of a new, below-grade 160,000 square-foot ultraviolet treatment building. The facility treats up to two billion gallons of water per day cleaned using ultraviolet light. Highlights include excavation of 400,000 CY of earth, drainage, foundations, structural concrete work, piping, system installation, placement of 1,200 tons of structural steel, 121,000 CY of concrete and 10,250 LF of large bore steel pipe, ranging from 48” to 144” in diameter.

Newtown Creek Water Pollution Control Plant, $1.4 billion (total of three projects)Brooklyn, NY Awarded several portions of the phased renovation of New York City’s largest wastewater treatment plants with the plant remaining fully operational throughout construction. Highlights include installation of piles and support of excavation, construction of a new pipe tunnel and completion of a personnel tunnel, 200,000 linear feet of structural piling, 130,000 cubic yards of excavation 55,000 cubic yards of concrete, 4,300 tons of reinforcing steel and 54,000 linear feet of mechanical piping.
F. Wayne Hill Wastewater Treatment Plant, $229 millionAtlanta, Georgia Completion of two contracts for the F. Wayne Hill Wastewater Treatment Plant in Buford, Georgia. Skanska self-performed 70% of the work, including excavation of 300,000 yards of earth, site work, installation of 90,000 cubic yards of concrete, process piping and mechanical equipment installation. The effort increased the plant’s capacity from 20 MGD to 60 MGD. The plant uses primary, secondary and tertiary treatment processes.
Bowery Bay Water Pollution Control Plant, Interim Plant Upgrading Plantwide Stabilization and Nitrogen Removal - Phase 3, $183 millionAstoria, NY Rehabilitation of10 aeration tanks, 15 primary settling and 17 final settling tanks; replacement of three bar screens; replacement of three sluice gates in the screening chamber; installation of three interim process air blowers; removal of eight existing blowers; installation of five permanent process air blowers and associated process air piping serving the aeration tanks, and construction of three new MCC buildings.
South Florida Water Management District Wastewater Treatment Plant, $93 millionMiami, FL Construction of four new clarifiers and refurbishment of six existing clarifiers within the existing plant, ensuring that operations were maintained at all times throughout the construction process. The project was completed two years ahead of schedule and increased the capacity of the plant by 60 million gallons per day.
