    PUMP APPLICATIONS

CLARIFIER SCUM Scum pits require pumps to handle allthe material from the top of the clarifier including, hair, latexand plastics without plugging.

CHOPX pumps easily chop and pump this material

    without clogging.

A recirculation nozzle assembly is often combined withthe chopper pump to provide complete mixing of the pit, incorporating floating scum blankets and suspend solidsoff the pit floor and even wash down the pit walls.

DIGESTER RECIRCULATION Pumps are employed toincrease digester efficiency by recirculating and mixing thetank contents.

CHOPX pumps are used when clogging of heatexchangers or mixing nozzles is possible by continuouslychopping woven, stringy and agglomerated solids.

XCS pumps effectively recirculate the digester sludge,

passing all solids (including stringy materials) withoutclogging and at very high efficiencies.

LIFT STATIONS Due to the remote locations, it is imperativethat the raw incoming sewage be pumped reliably withoutclogging.

CHOPX pumps often replace standard non-clog pumps, especially in difficult lift stations such as prisons, hospitals, restaurants and other institutional and public facilities.

SEPTAGE RECEIVING Raw concentrated solids from septictanks create a severe pumping environment with high pumpclogging potential.

CHOPX pumps easily deal with rags, plastics and other

difficult to pump solids which can clog other designs.

SLUDGE TRANSFER Sludge consistencies vary considerablyand therefore reliable pumping must be achieved on heavyas well as light sludges.

XCS pumps are employed when passing of the sludge isall that is required.

CHOPX pumps are used when the potential for downstream clogging of other equipment exists.

RAS / WAS High flows at a low head is characteristic of thisapplication requiring pumps to pass all solids encounteredwithout clogging.

The XCS screw centrifugal pumps are ideal for this

application having unmatched hydraulic performanceand solids passing capability at very high efficiencies.

GRIT Pumping high concentrations of highly abrasive silicagrit content is the challenge of this application.

TORUS recess impeller pumps are provided in Ni-Hard(500 BHN) or Super Ni-Hard (650 BHN) construction towithstand this harsh environment and to provide long life.

DELICATE FLOCCULANTS The XCS screw centrifugalpumps with their low shear characteristics make this pumpthe best choice for transferring the delicate flocs from theflocculation basin.

    Chopper CHOPX

    The CHOPX series chopper

    pumps perform the dual function

of cutting and pumping makingthem ideally suited for

    applications requiring reduction

    of solids size and/or protection

    of downstream equipment.

    The proven clamp type

    construction, common to all

    our solids handling pumps,

permits the entire wet-end to be

    manufactured in wear-resistant

    hard metals to ensure maximum

    component life in abrasive

    services.

    Screw Centrifugal XCS

    The XCS screw centrifugal line

of pumps offers a unique set

    of advantages for handling thick

    sludges, large or stringy solids,

    shear sensitive fluids and

    delicate materials.

The open channel of the screw

    impeller combines gentle,

    clog-free pumping action with

    high efficiency and non-over-

    loading characters.Hard metal wear resistant

    construction is available when

    abrasives are present.

    Recessed Impeller TORUS

    The TORUS series of solids

    handling pumps feature an

    impeller completely recessed into

the rear section of the volute, out

of the flow path of the material

being pumped. This allowspassage of any solid, which is

equal to the discharge size of

    the pump.

    In addition to handling large

    solids, the TORUS pump is

    ideally suited for highly abrasive

    applications, when low particle

    degradation is required, for

    slurries with gas entrainment, or

    for stringy or fibrous materials.

    MIXER APPLICATIONS

FLOCCULATION Flocculation is the agglomeration ofcolloidal particles into a larger mass call floc particles.Agitation increases the opportunity for particle contact, improving the flocculation efficiency.

The AL hydrofoil is ideal for this application, promotinglarge fluid movement and therefore maximizing particlecontact while minimizing shear and turbulence to preventfloc damage.

FLASH & DYNAMIC IN-LINE Mixers are used to uniformlydisperse chemicals, such as coagulant aids, chlorine andsulfur dioxide into the process stream in very short retentiontimes. These chemicals are added for the purpose of solidsremoval, neutralization, odour & colour control.

The conventional configuration is a top entry mixer in arectangular basin with impellers selected to maximizedispersion while preventing short circuiting.

Alternatively, a Dynamic In-Line mixer can be used, whichis a high speed mixer operating in a specially baffledsection of similar sized pipe as the process stream.

CARBON MAKEUP Adsorption is the process of removing thesoluble and particulate impurities from the process water bycontacting the process stream with activated carbon.

Mixers are used to wet-out the dry activated carbon intoa slurry, then to maintain uniform suspension and finally tore-suspend the carbon after periods when the mixer hasbeen shut-down. Impeller selection is critical to successfullyaccomplish all of these requirements.

CHEMICAL MAKEUP Polymers can be provided as eitherdry powder or in a concentrated liquid form. In either casedilution is required before addition to the process.

Mixer sizing is based on viscosity, which has a very broadrange, and therefore it is important to know the polymer

characteristics for each application.SLUDGE MIXING Sludge Blending requires agitation toensure a homogeneous mixture is obtained from varioussludge sources.

Sludge tanks require mixers to keep solids from settling, maintain uniform consistency and can also be used toblend chemical additives into the sludge for moreefficient dewatering.

EQUALIZATION / NEUTRALIZATION Flow Equalization is thedamping of flow rate and concentration variations so that aconstant or near constant stream is achieved to the plant.Neutralization is the process of blending acid or caustic intothe waste stream to adjust the pH level of the basin.

Equalization mixers are used to blend influents from

various sources to provide a uniform consistency. Neutralization mixers ensure proper pH levels are achieved

before entering the next process steps.

CHLORINE CONTACT Chlorine is used as a disinfectant torid the effluent of any residual microorganisms.

Mixers ensure that the added chlorine is thoroughly dispersedinto the effluent stream for maximum effectiveness.

ANOXIC MIXERS Anoxic zones are used to facilitatedenitrification using bacteria to convert nitrates to nitritesand finally to nitrogen gas which is released from the basin.

Agitation is required to blend the basin contents toincrease process efficiencies.

PortableA wide range of rugged direct

    and gear driven mixers are

    available in clamp and fixed

    mounting arrangements with a

    variety of sealing systems for

    closed tanks.

    HRFTop EntryThese mixers handle

    applications in the transition

    area between portable type

    mixers and the larger turbine

    style agitators.

    Three drive sizes cover this

    series which feature a third

    lower output bearing which

    helps isolate hydraulic loads

    from the gearbox.

    MBTop EntryThese right angle drives

    come in seven different sizes

    covering the moderately sized

    mixing applications.

    DynamicIn-LineAvailable in two different

    configurations: dual

    compartment, staged mixing,

    for more difficult applications

    and the flow through

    design for water treatment

    applications.
