Putting on a show –John Carlson (who spent much of his childhood living in New Jersey) led the Capitals in points against the Devilslast season, collecting seven points (2g-5a) in four games. The seven career points and the 12 career penalty minutes he has recordedagainst New Jersey are the most he has tallied against any NHL team.  Jersey success –Mike Knuble and Alex Ovechkin have enjoyed success against the Devils in their careers. Knuble leads all Capitalsin career points vs. New Jersey with 42 (17g-25a) in 62 games. Ovechkin has recorded 29 points (10g-19a) in 23 career games againstthe Devils. Czech marks –Roman Hamrlik and Patrik Elias both sit high on the all-time career lists for Czech-born players in several categories.Hamrlik leads all active Czech-born players in games played (1,325) while Elias ranks fifth (975). In terms of goals among active Czechplayers, Elias ranks third (341) while Hamrlik ranks eighth (154). Elias is second among active Czech players in points (830) whileHamrlik sits in sixth place (625).   Stingy –Michal Neuvirth is 4-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and one shutout in four career games against the Devils and went3-0-0 last season against New Jersey. His shutout came on March 18 of last season as he made 33 saves in a 3-0 win at PrudentialCenter. A devil of a time –The Capitals are 5-1-0 in their last six games against New Jersey, having outscored the Devils 21-10 in that span. The 92 wins that the Caps have in team history against New Jersey are their most wins against any franchise. Washington has earnedmore points against the Devils (206) in its franchise history than against any other NHL team.  SERIES NOTES* Washington leads 92-69-13-9, entering the 184th meeting (54-26-6-5 at home). * This is the second of four meetings between these two clubs this season as Washington won 3-1 in New Jersey last night. * Last year the Capitals went 3-1-0 against New Jersey, earning a 7-5 win on Oct. 9 and a 5-1 win on Dec. 21 at home and falling 5-0on Nov. 22 before a 3-0 win on March 18 in New Jersey. * Dainius Zubrus played 331 games for Washington from 2001 –2007, collecting 216 points (86g-130a).  MORE CAPITALS NOTES Snipers –Alex Ovechkin (308) and Ilya Kovalchuk (263) rank first and second, respectively, in goals scored since the 2005-06 season.Ovechkin ranks first in that span in points (628) while Kovalchuk ranks 10th (506). Swedish star –Nicklas Backstrom was named the NHL’s “Third Star” of the week for the week ending Nov. 6. Backstrom tallied sixpoints (three goals, three assists) and began the week by notching the game-tying goal with 42 seconds left in regulation and theovertime winner as the Capitals defeated the Anaheim Ducks 5-4 on Nov. 1.  A dose of depth –20 of the 23 skaters that have suited up for the Capitals this season have recorded a point. 17 of those 23 playershave scored a goal while 15 players have recorded at least five points so far this season. 10 players have recorded at least three goals. Eager Eakin –Forward Cody Eakin was recalled from Hershey on Nov. 1 and made his NHL debut that night against Anaheim, becoming the first rookie to appear in a game for Washington this season. He recorded his first NHL goal and his first assist on Nov. 4in Carolina. Eakin joins ex-Caps Eric Fehr and Joe Motzko as just the third Capital ever to wear No. 50. Halpern’s strike –Jeff Halpern scored his first goal of the season on Nov. 4 in Carolina and his first goal in a Capitals uniform in morethan five and a half years. He scored twice for the Capitals in the final game of the 2005-06 regular season, a 4-1 win over the Lightningin Tampa Bay on April 18, 2006. Halpern’s half-decade between goals with the Caps is not the longest stretch between tallies by a two-term Capital. Anson Carter scored twice for Washington in a Feb. 24, 1997 contest against the Boston Bruins before returning to theCapitals in the 2003-04 season and scoring a goal against the Lightning on Feb. 3, 2004. That span was just weeks shy of seven yearssince his last goal as a member of the Caps. Spread the wealth –The Capitals have spread the goal scoring around fairly evenly among the three periods of play this season.Washington has scored 14 first-period goals (T-6th), 15 second-period goals (T-5th) and 20 third-period goals (4th).
