Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction activities contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:
• leadfromlead-basedpaints,• crystallinesilicafrombricks,cementandothermasonryproducts,and• arsenicandchromiumfromchemically-treatedlumber.
The risk of exposure to these types of chemicals varies depending on how frequently you work with certain chemicals. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals, work in a well-ventilatedareaandworkwithapprovedsafetyequipment,suchasdustmasksthatare specifically designed to filter out microscopic particles.
