March newsletter, thank God! Although as I write we still have 2 weeks of February to go, it warms me up to at least write about Spring on the way. Wow, what a winter, Fall, Winter, Spring (mostly winter) every week you get whiplash just try-ing to dress for the weather! Been pretty quiet around here with the weird weather and the snow birds gone, but we have kept the doors open and are making some improvements around the post. We have the post license plates out where they can be seen, and Barry and Herb are having the back bar area re-waxed for the Valentine Dinner/Dance on the 15th. On that subject at last count Susan Huff had 114 signed up for the Shrimp or Prime Rib dinner, not bad for mid February. For March the Friday dinners will start on Friday the 1st with a Spaghetti Dinner, bar opens at noon again and the last Turkey Shoot will be Saturday, March 9th. Barry will serve Corned Beef and Cabbage on St Patrick's day Sunday the 17th from 12 till it's gone. Join us for the tra-ditional Irish treat! Looking forward we have to seal and re-stripe the parking lot, will be a fine figure price, we need some new chairs for the meeting room and the Color Guard needs some winter wear for the really cold days. My point is if anyone has some ideas for fund raising we would love to hear them. Please remember the Mouse Races April 6th. The Post needs your support. God Bless America Mark

I am so happy some of you have not gone South for the winter; those of us who stayed in Mo. this winter have many stories to share and better understand why so many leave. It has not been a true Mo winter since 1993 according to one weather forecaster. Spring conference was not well attended by any group of the legion family hope more will be able to attend Sate in St Louis the weather shouldn't be a problem. If location is your excuse Fall Conference is in Jeff City and the Baymont across hwy from Capital Plaza is an excellent reasonable place with a great breakfast included. Yes SAL, AUX and Riders. I was asked where our post riders and legion members were and told we have a beautiful post. LETS SHOW THEM WE ARE ACTIVE TOO!! March is still a very ?? season so SAL will again serve Tenderloins, Fresh fried chips Slaw and Dessert. ALL PROFITS TO SERVE OUR VETERANS WITHOUT HOME WE WOULD NOT BE FREE. WE ALL THANK EACH WHO SERVED OR IS SERVING FOR THEIR SERVICE Bob Worthley 816-850-4935

BAR COMMITTEE I would like to thank Pat and Carole Mergen, Mark Schnoebelen, Debbie Sutton and Jon Hovey for taking care of the bar finances while I was gone. Many times in the past I have heard The American Legion called a “Country Club”. Pay your annual dues, come in and wait to see what benefits the club is going to give you without putting any effort in to the post itself. Many people do not put any time in to help on entertainment or suggest any new ideas. It is easier to complain and criticize than it is to help. Let me give you my idea of a member. There is a member among us who represents a true member. Over the past he and his wife worked in the kitchen, been active in the Legion and Auxiliary, has served on the executive board, color guard, and bar committee for many years. When he become unable to participate in all these activities, he still called members of the color guard to inform them of upcoming events. Today you will find him helping at the Turkey Shoot every Saturday and sitting at the end of the bar meeting and greeting people as they come in. This is a true representative of The American Legion. Many times we have argued about different things that have gone on at the post but after the arguments are all through and opinions have been stated, we stop and buy each other a drink and continue on as friends. Why can’t we all do this? Most of you know who this person is. If not, let me introduce him, Bill Stewart A true Legionnaire. Gay Mock Bar Committee Chair
