MAP STATIONS

answered. Make sure you are on the correct page when answering
the questions – each station is different! “MAP QUESTIONS” – look at the map in the folder to
answer these. “QUESTIONS ABOUT MAP TYPE” – look at paragraphs

MAP PROJECTIONS - MERCATOR
Designed as a navigation tool Perfect for “true” direction Oldest map projections used http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8zBC2dvERM
MAP PROJECTIONS- MOLLWEIDE PROJECTION Sacrifices accuracy of angle and shape of land to show
accurate proportions in area. Equal area map
GOODE’S HOMOLOSINE EQUAL AREA Emphasizes world land mass and oceans. Very little distortion (of Continents). Direction /distance is NOT accurate.
CREATE YOUR OWN MAP
NOW- Take out the map you made at the beginning of class. Does it have what every map needs? TODALS? Make it better by adding color and anything else that will make it like a map we studied. Remember the map types – physical, climate, topographic, thematic,
economic, political.
