Barcode and RFID Barcode and RFID labels are by far the

fastest and most accurate method for identify and track materials and products through out the supply chain and within warehouse and distribution centers.

Barcode is desirable to present a lot of information in a limited space.2D barcode can be read from 50 feet away and as close as six inches.


Wireless communication Around the warehouse we can use various access

points. These are connected to a central server which can be viewed by the staff in their handheld computer’s web windows.At various times the central server release orders wirelessly which the users receive in their respective units.


Combine effect of hardware and technologiesReceiving – common practice for warehouse operation is to print a batch of label for incoming goods

at a central IT office after receiving an ASN(Advance ship notice) from a supplier.The labels are stored in the office and retrieved by receiving worker when the shippment arrives. This is very time consuming process and also possibility of incorrect label attachment of shippment.

Simplifying picking task To fill an order, the forklift driver received a printed pick list

from the shipping office and then drove through the DC to pick up the listed pallets

Each forklift is equipped with small LCD screen that displays the pick list items in order that optimizes the path to order fulfillment.The screen updates continuously from the company’s wide wireless networks.For each item the driver scans the product and the shelf label communicate the selection to the network.If it ts correct item then n/w automatically sends a confirmation that appears on the LCD screen and sends the shipping label information to the printers thus ensuring that the label is right match for picked item.As workers pick and place items into a cartoon workers scan the product identification barcode to report their removal from inventory and record the transfer to the order fullfillment packing department.


Simplifying putaway task

An integrated system allows workers to initiate label request by entering information into a handheld computer.The handheld transmits data to the company’s ERP system over a wireless n/w that covers the facility.The ERP system recieves the transmission , updates inventory records and return the information required to produce the barcode and RFID label.


Voice processing Each operator is given a voice-enabled RF device.

These devices need not have screens or keypads – operators communicate with the system via headset. Manager use the WMS to assign operators work jobs such as picking, putaway,replenishment and truck loading.

Putaway In voice directed putaway the system asks the

operator for the license that they will be putting away. The system than directs the operator to put away each license requesting a location check digits from the putaway locations.


Truck loading With voice directed truck loading, the voice

system directs the operator to each picked pallet in the proper sequence. In full-pallet DCs, operators may be directed to take entire pallets from the racking directly to the truck. Voice-directed truck-loading can help ensure that trucks are loaded in the correct sequence and that all pallets make it onto the truck


Voice trainingApart from training users to use the voice system, the

system must be trained to understand each user. This training process takes roughly 30–45 minutes - during this time, the user is asked to repeat aloud the words they will be using when they communicate with the system. The voice system learns how the particular operator speaks, and saves a template of their speech patterns. This allows voice systems to understand users with heavy accents – the system knows how each individual user pronounces each word.

There are two types of voice solution - speaker dependent and speaker independent. The former requires the training of each user the second requires only operator training.
