Please Read On…..

One day, the Jungle Cubs started arguing about who was the fastest animal in the jungle.

“I’m a panther” Bagheera said. “That means I’m the swiftest

animal here.”

Page 7: Walt disney series iv

Shere Khan then growled. “Tigers can run faster than panthers.” Kaa slithered to the top of a rock.

Page 8: Walt disney series iv

“And s-s-snakes can s-s-slither faster than any furry beast around” he boasted.

Page 9: Walt disney series iv

“But I can swing high up in the trees,” Louie pointed out to others. “you guys have to go around everything in your paths.

Page 10: Walt disney series iv

So I o could beat any one of you, any day of the week!”

Page 11: Walt disney series iv

“Hmmph” Hathi snorted. “I don’t go around trees-I go through them.”

Page 12: Walt disney series iv

Baloo laughed. “I’m sure you are all faster than I am,” he said. “But let’s have a race to find out.”

Page 13: Walt disney series iv

Page 15: Walt disney series iv

The Jungle Cubs all agreed to race to the Chimney Rock.

Page 16: Walt disney series iv

“Ready…Go! Shouted Baloo. Everyone ran off as fast as possible- everyone ran off as fast as possible– everyone except Baloo.

Page 17: Walt disney series iv

He paused to pick up a bunch of bananas before he started walking.

Page 18: Walt disney series iv

Shere Khan and Bagheera were in the lead when they came to a huge river. “I hate swimming.” Bagheera proclaimed.

Page 19: Walt disney series iv

“So do I” Shere Khan replied. “But we have to cross the river to get to Chimney Rock!” So they jumped in, and before long they were close to a big waterfall!

Page 20: Walt disney series iv

Baloo spotted Shere Khan and Bagheera as they approached the waterfall.

Page 21: Walt disney series iv

He quickly threw them a vine and pulled them both out of the rushing waters.

Page 22: Walt disney series iv

Louie swung quickly from branch to branch when he saw Baloo below him. He panicked and started swimming even faster, and suddenly-

Page 23: Walt disney series iv
Page 24: Walt disney series iv

CRACK! The branch broke, and Louie fell down.

Page 25: Walt disney series iv

Luckily, Baloo was nearby just as Louie fell. He caught Louie just in time.

Page 26: Walt disney series iv

“Whoa, Louie!” Baloo said. “You could have hurt yourself!”

Page 27: Walt disney series iv

“Yes, I think I’ll sit down a while and catch my breath.” Louie said. Then Baloo wandered on.

Page 28: Walt disney series iv

Meanwhile Hathi was making his way through the jungle, trampling anything in his path

Page 29: Walt disney series iv

But suddenly, he stepped right into a pool of quicksand – and was sinking fast.

Page 30: Walt disney series iv

“Don’t worry, buddy!” yelled Baloo. “I’ll get you out of there!”

Page 31: Walt disney series iv

Baloo pushed a log toward Hathi. Wrapped his trunk around it, and Baloo pulled as hard as he could.

Page 32: Walt disney series iv

Before long. Hathi popped out of the quicksand.

Page 33: Walt disney series iv

“Thanks, Baloo,” Hathi murmured weakly, “ I think I’ll rest here for a minute. I’ll see you at Chimney Rock.”

Page 34: Walt disney series iv

Kaa slithered as fast as he could – he just knew he would win this race!

Page 35: Walt disney series iv

Suddenly, a mouse crossed his path. Kaa’s eyes brightened, and he chased after it.

Page 36: Walt disney series iv

The mouse scampered up a tree trunk, out onto a branch, and around a few twigs. Kaa followed him – until he was tied up in a knot!

Page 37: Walt disney series iv

Baloo laughed when he saw Kaa. “S-s-stop that and s-s-save me!” Kaa hissed. “Okay,” Baloo giggled, untying Kaa from the tree.

Page 38: Walt disney series iv

Kaa settled on a rock and Baloo continued.

Page 39: Walt disney series iv

He was sure he would be the last one to get to Chimney Rock, but he didn’t care. After all, he had a nice time.

Page 40: Walt disney series iv

Finally, Baloo got to Chimney Rock. But where were the others?

Page 41: Walt disney series iv

Then he realised that he must have been the first one to get there and that he had won! Baloo peeled his last banana to celebrate.

Page 42: Walt disney series iv

But it really wasn’t much fun celebrating without his friends.

Page 43: Walt disney series iv

He wanted to share his joy with his friends. When they finally showed up at the rock they were all surprised to see who had won the race!

Page 44: Walt disney series iv

Everyone congratulated Baloo as they all headed home together.

Page 45: Walt disney series iv

Once they were back home, Baloo grabbed another bunch of bananas and handed them out to everyone.

Page 46: Walt disney series iv

“You know something” Who cares who’s the fastest” Hanging out with friends like you is the most important thing to me”

About the Story

Jungle Cubs is an animated series produced by Disney for ABC in 1996. It was based on their

1967 feature film The Jungle Book, but set in the youth of the animal characters.

The show was a hit, running for two seasons in syndication before moving its re-runs to the Disney Channel. The

show was broadcast on Toon Disney, but was taken off the schedule in 2001.

The show did air in the United Kingdom on Disney Cinemagic and in Latin America until it was removed. The

show's theme song is a hip-hop version of the classic song, "The Bare Necessities" performed by Lou Rawls.
