“If you can dream it, you can do it. Always
remember that this whole thing was started
with a dream and a mouse.”
-Walt Disney
Walter Elias "Walt" Disney was born December 5, 1901 and died
December 15, 1966. He was an American entrepreneur,
animator, voice actor and film producer. A pioneer of the
American animation industry, he introduced several developments
in the production of cartoons. As a film producer, Disney holds
the record for most Academy Awards earned by an individual,
having won 22 Oscars from 59 nominations. He was presented
with two Golden Globe Special Achievement Awards and an Emmy
Award. Born in Chicago, Disney developed an early interest in
drawing. He took art classes as a boy and got a job as a
commercial illustrator at the age of 18. He moved to California
in the early 1920s and set up the Disney Brothers Studio with
his brother Roy. Walt developed the character Mickey Mouse in
1928, his first highly popular success. In the 1950s, Disney
expanded into the amusement park industry, and in 1955 he
opened Disneyland. To fund the project he diversified into
television programs, such as Walt Disney's Disneyland and The
Mickey Mouse Club. Disney is one of the most famous theme
parks in the world, creating the illusion you are living in an
utopian world other than just visiting a theme park. Disney
was a heavy smoker throughout his life, and died of lung
cancer in December 1966 before the park was completed. I
decided to do my project on the historical figure Walt Disney
because it really interests me the concept that Disney was
trying to create an alternative world to the reality of
what was going on in the world including World war 11.
“Times and conditions change so rapidly that we must keep our aim
constantly focused on the future.”
“That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up.”
“For every laugh, there should be a tear.”
“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”
“If you can dream it, you can do it.
It's kind of fun to do the impossible.”
“Faith I have, in myself, in humanity, in the worthwhileness
of the pursuits in entertainment for the masses.
But wide awake, not blind faith, moves me.”
“Most things are good, and there are strongest
things;
but there are evil things too, and you are not
doing a child a favor
by trying to shield him from reality.
The important thing is to teach a child that good
can always triumph over evil.”
(Walt Disney)
In this poem i decided to research some of
Walt Disney’s most famous quotes and put
them in an order of a poem. I did this
because Walt Disney had a lot of wisdom
and he shared much of it with the world.
He shared it through his movies and clips
throughout this career. The theme of this
poem is living life free and full of
laughter like Walt Disney did. He always
wanted to see the good in the world and
kind of like the moto in one of his popular
movies Peter Pan “Never grow up”. I
wanted to portray the lightness and
playfulness that Walt tried to portray
in a lot of his movies and in his world
famous theme park Walt Disney World.
There’s a war going on We hear it on the news We see it over seas We live it in the streets See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil they say What if the the evil is all around us? We must see it What is the evil is spoken to us? We must hear it What if the evil is in us? We must speak it This world This world going up in flames Live free or die But i don’t feel too free no more I don’t see peace I don’t see justice I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
There’s a World that you can goGo be freeFeel PeaceFeel Justice Feel the lightThe perfect world Standing aloneSurrounded by a warSurrounded by hatred and corruptionThis world is magic Not a worry in your mindI promise youNot a bad thought in your headThis world is somewhere safe Free from evilIt all started with a dreamA dream of laughter and funA dream of love and family A dream of a world without warCome and be freeFree of the real world and what it has become.
I decided to do a two sided poem for my
second poem because throughout my
research i found out that a lot of Walt
Disney’s movies were written and produced
during the time of World War 11. There
was a lot of hate and evil going on in the
world at that time. So half of the poem is
what is going on in the real world and the
other side is the world that Walt Disney
wanted to create for people to go to and
escape from reality. Somewhere fun and
full of love and family. Walt wanted his
movies to bring happiness and an
alternative to what was really going on in
the world.
Ode to children
This place
I present to you
is for all of you children
You children of war
Of hate
Of fear
This place is to bring smiles to your face
and never go away
even when you rest your eyes to sleep.
I hope this place brings love into your heart
Brings you hope
Brings you laughter
I have created this place for you
For you to come and not have fear
To come and rest your heads in peace
My dream is to bring fun into this world
I want you to know
Anything can happen if you just believe
It all starts with a dream
I decided to write an Ode to
children as my last poem because
Walt Disney created DisneyLand/
Disneyworld for people to come
and have fun and live magically.
The audience that was targeted
when it came to the amusement
park and his movies were
children. A lot of Walt’s work
was inspired by the mind and
imagination of children.
Disneyland and world was a place
created for the youth and family
to come and make memories that
last forever and never grow up.
