VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2014 Are there any Weird Animals in your home? Maybe you are a Weird Animal! Come find out at our upcoming Vacation Bible School! This year’s VBS "Weird Animals" will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 23 through Thursday, June 26. We will have fun and fellowship together studying "Weird Animals: Where Jesus’ Love Is One-of-a-Kind.” In this theme, “weird” means special, unique, rare, one-of-a-kind. Kids will learn that God filled the world with all kinds of creatures. When kids feel weird, different or even lost in the crowd, nothing compares to the extraordinary love of Jesus. Since this year's VBS will be held in the evening, the whole family can attend. There will even be activities for adults. To help with this year's VBS, please contact either Curt Simpson at (910) 290-2194 or [email protected], or Joell Parker at (804) 366-5663 or [email protected]. !Dear Friends, From time to time, I like to share with you quotes I have written in my quote journal. I was inspired to keep a quote journal by Father Tim, the main character in Jan Karon’s “Life in Mitford” series of novels. I have been keeping my quote journal for ten years. It contains a variety of quotes, from the profound to the humorous. Here are some to think about. Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu — “A person is a person through other people.’ Zulu proverb “To be human is to be moral, and you cannot have a day off when it suits.” From Mr. Pip “So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8 “When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers.” African proverb “A Christian should be an alleluia from head to foot.” St. Augustine “If you want to go far, don’t go

!alone. Go with others.” African proverb, from Rev. David Gathanju, Moderator, Presbyterian Church East Africa, Kenya “If you’re not allowed to laugh in heaven, I don’t want to go there.” Martin Luther “The gospel is not a set of abstract truths to be announced but a way of life to be lived.” Ernest Best “The time is always right to do the right thing.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Change is not a judgment on the past.” Sign in the office of the Presbytery of Coastal Carolina “By perseverance the snail reached the ark.” Charles Spurgeon “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.” 2 Corinthians 13:13

In Christ,! !

Presbyterian Women 2014 Birthday Offering: Monday, May 19 at 7:00 PM !What is the Birthday Offering? The Birthday Offering is a PW offering collected in the spring of each year to celebrate the blessings in the lives of Presbyterian Women. The offering funds up to five projects that are not included in ongoing General Assembly mission support, such as agricultural development, child care, community organization, criminal justice, drug counseling, economic justice, elderly care, employment training, homelessness, literacy, violence and women’s concerns. PW in the Congregations (PWCs) typically collect the Birthday !

Offering in the spring and dedicate their offerings at spring gatherings. No giving guidelines are suggested other than “give as you are blessed.” PWCs who collect the Offering should send their donation (as a check made payable to Treasurer of Presbyterian Women) to the treasurer of PW in the Presbytery. History of the Birthday Offering In 1922, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Woman’s Auxiliary (PCUS), it was decided that an offering should be made for a definite cause. That same year, Hallie Paxson Winsborough, superintendent of women’s work, visited Miss Dowd’s School for Girls in Kochi, Japan. Realizing the school’s needs, she challenged members of the Women’s Auxiliary to give one penny for each year of their life as a birthday gift to the school. Over the years, that tradition has become known as the Birthday Offering. Presbyterian Women have given more than $29 million in support of mission projects throughout the world. !2014 RECIPIENT After reviewing numerous proposals, the Creative Ministries Offering Committee chose Blue Corn Mothers Alliance to receive the sole grant from the 2014 Birthday Offering. Gifts to the 2014 Birthday Offering will allow this ministry in Albuquerque to offer culturally-appropriate services for Native American women who have experienced domestic violence. The goal for the offering is $500,000. Blue Corn Mothers AllianceBlue Corn Mothers Advocacy CenterAlbuquerque, New Mexico !Wallace Presbyterian Women will have their Spring Gathering on Monday, May 19, at 7:00 pm. Please plan to attend our Birthday Party celebration as we wrap up for the year. Because of vacation and summer activities, the circle groups do not meet in June or July. N !
