Outstanding Forgiveness of the Prophet A great quality of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was that he never took revenge on anyone for personal reasons and always forgave even his firm enemies. His wife `A’ishah reported that Allah’s Messenger was not unseemly or obscene in his speech, nor was he loud-voiced in the streets, nor did he return evil for evil, but he would forgive and pardon. The people of the Quraysh rebuked him, taunted and mocked at him, beat him and abused him. They tried to kill him and when he escaped to Madinah, they waged many wars against him. Yet when he entered Makkah victorious with an army of 10000, he did not take revenge on anyone. He forgave all. Even his deadliest enemy, Abu Sufyan, who had fought so many battles against him, was forgiven, as was anyone who stayed in his house.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was all for forgiveness and no amount of crime or aggression against him was too great to be forgiven by him. He was the com-plete example of forgiveness and kindness, as men-tioned in the following verse of the Qur’an: “Keep to forgiveness (O Muhammad), and enjoin kind-ness, and turn away from the ignorant.” (Al-A`raf: 199)

He always repelled evil with good, for, in his view, an antidote was better than poison. He believed and practiced the precept that love could foil hatred and aggression could be won over by forgiveness. He over-came the ignorance of the people with the knowledge of Islam, and the folly and evil of the people with his kind and forgiving treatment. With his forgiveness, he freed people from the bondage of sin and crime, and also made them great friends of Islam. He was an exact image of the following verse of the Qur’an: “Good and evil are not alike. Repel evil with what is better. Then he, between whom and you there was hatred, will be-come as though he was a bosom friend.” (Fussilat: 34)

Greetings to all Parents and Guardians of students at AIC! It is nice to have your kids back at school again. You will be pleased to know that NAPLAN preparations are in full swing across all campuses for our Year 3, Year 5, Year 7 and Year 9 students.

NAPLAN stands for National Assessment Programme for Literacy and Numeracy. All students (in the above men-tioned grades) sit for the tests on the same day through-out Australia.

The tests provide vital clues to a student’s academic level compared to the national benchmark. The results also help schools direct their academic programme in the areas of literacy and numeracy. Government officials use NAPLAN results to sharpen their education policies and allocate resources and funding to schools that may re-

quire assistance. The recent MySchool website has been constructed using NAPLAN results. The point is that NAPLAN tests are important and we have put strategies in place to help our students reach their potential. Dedicated NAPLAN Coordinators have been assigned to each Grade and in each Learning Area. NAPLAN study has been included in your child’s time-table.

As a parent or guardian of a Year 9 student, you can sup-port us through the purchase of a NAPLAN study book. The school has been able to source a supplier who will provide the materials at a cost of $23 which is below the market rate of $29 or higher.

This book will be used as a resource and will form an important part of the NAPLAN preparation and the good news is that it covers both learning areas: Literacy AND Numeracy, so it is excellent value for your child.

We look forward to your cooperation and by God’s grace we can help our students achieve excellent NAPLAN results for the Year 2010.

Thank you.

ICT IntegrationAsalam alaikum

Last year I was involved in writing strategic plan for Australian Islamic College-Kewdale campus for acquisition of 1:1 computers for years 9 – 12 provided by the Australian Government and distributed by AISWA CGA (Capital Grant As-sociation). Alhamdolilah I am pleased to inform that the strategic plan has been accepted and our grant has been approved. What a wonderful way to start a new year!! I would also take the opportunity to thanks Sr. Nasreen, Br. Moham-med and Br. Omar for their invaluable contribution towards the writing of the strategic plan. With this new project there are more responsibilities and accountability as we are entitled to approximately $638,200.00 to achieve computer – student ratio 1:1 by the end of 2011 Inshallah. That precisely means – more computers in classrooms, installation of new hardware and educational software, teacher training and PLs etc.By: Gulnaz Rizvi ICT Manager AIC (kewdale)

Our New arrival students will be participating in sports activities offered by Comunicare WA for three sessions. The first session took place on Thursday 11th February, and all students had the chance to learn about a new game “Lacrosse”.

Two Development Officers from Lacrosse WA came to the class with the sticks, balls and enthusiasm and played some games with the students to improve various skills such as oral communication, following instructions, and improving the students’ team spirit.

Lacrosse is a game that is played on a grass field during winter. The objective of this game is to see which team can score the most goals by throwing goals. A goal is scored if the player throws the ball past a goalie (person protecting the goals). The goals are 6ft x 6ft. The game of women’s lacrosse goes for 2 x 25min halves and men play for 4 x 25 minutes quarters.

The Information Systems (‘IS’) Department develops and maintain web based computer programs for both the learning and business areas of the 3 campuses of AIC. If you have to log on to some system or view any web page at AIC you can be sure that we are behind that system. These are the school web site that was recently upgraded to run on a world class con-tent management system, the AICIS (stands for AIC Information System) that has the enrolment, absentee, student points, marks and many other modules. While myself, Mortaja and Anton are always busy responding to user requests, working with bits and bytes in between bites, We are deeply excited with the planned roll-out of a learning management system by Brother Mahir to give our teachers the tools for creating online dynamic web sites to enhance the learning experience of our students. Watch out for this story in subsequent issues of the Wake Up Call. With all these application systems and many more planned, we like to think that it is the systems behind the enthusiastic teachers that will make the difference and make the AIC colleges a great institution for learning.

ISLAM IN MOROOCCOIslam was first brought to Morocco in 680 by an Arab invasion under Uqba ibn Nafi, who was a general serving under the Umayyads of Damas-cus. In 788, The Idrisids ruled Morocco, being the first dynasty to do so. After adopting Islam, several Berbers formed their own Islamic dynasties and reigned over the country. Most Berbers converted to Islam after more Arabs came to Morocco with their culture and customs. Islam has been the official religion since.

The Society and Environment department has started off on a good footing to ensure the success of the students in the year 2010. The teachers are all back from their break, refreshed and enthusiastic to take on the challenges of this year.

The units covered over this term will focus on Geogra-phy and students will be learning about the environ-ment and conservation of it, especially in Australia since this is the country in which they live.An exciting change is that this year, the year 7’s has been incorporated into the high school and their cur-riculum will follow high school standards and proce-dures. This term they are learning about the Rainforest. Below is a Mural developed by the year 7 students displaying the Biodiversity of the Rainforest. Illustrated is man, animal and plant life in the Rainforest. The Mu-ral indicates the creativity encouraged and promoted by teachers in students towards their learning. Looking forward to a very successful 2010.

Wake Up Call Issue 169 / 14 March 2010

It was a sunny day and fox was walking across the fields. Soon he came to a vineyard. As he came nearer, he could see some bunches of juicy grapes. The fox looked carefully around him. He had to make sure that he was safe from the hunters. He decided to steal some before anyone came along. He jumped upwards but he could not reach the grapes. He jumped again as high as he could. He still could not reach them. The grapes were just too high for him!He was not ready to give up. He backed off, took some running steps and leapt into the air towards the grapes. Again he failed to reach them.It was getting dark, and he was getting angry. His legs hurt with all that running and jumping. At last he stopped trying. As he walked away, he said to himself, “I don’t re-ally want those grapes. I’m sure they are too sour to eat.”Moral of the Story: Sometimes when we cannot get

what we want, we pretend that it is not worth having.
