Budget 2015-2016 Highlights
✤ $9K allocated to paying for classroom rugs, easels and horseshoe shaped tables
✤ $2K allocated to the Discovery Garden and special lesson plans to be crafted in an effort to utilize that space to the fullest
✤ $5K allocated to technology purchases
✤ $1K allocated for low-cost clubs expenses and transportation

Rock ’n Run
✤ Organized by PTA volunteers - school keeps 100% of the proceeds
✤ Prizes will directly benefit the classrooms
✤ Goal= $40k✤ we raised approx. $50k
in 2013 and 2014
Rock ‘n Run Fundraiser
✤ Donations tracked via class donation sites, credit card/checks/cash accepted
✤ The competition is class based, and prizes earned are also class-based
✤ The more money we raise in this fall fundraiser, the less likely we will need to engage in any other fundraising for the year

If you have not signed your Rock ’n Run waiver, please sign and turn into your teacher tomorrow!
✤All students will attend R’nR even if they are not allowed to participate, they will be in the “cheering section”.
✤All students will also receive a t-shirt
Rock ‘n Run 6th Grade
✤ RnR is the primary 6th grade fundraiser this year.
✤ The 6th grade will raise money as a grade and earn their own set of 6th-grade specific prizes: Hemlock, t-shirts, lock-in, etc.
✤ Spread the word that RnR is a 6th grade fundraiser this year!

Community Events
Storytelling Night
November 12th
✤ Chairs – Erica Parra, Kendra Gomlik✤ Children rotate through different themed reading
rooms every 10 minutes – Some themes include: Under the Sea, Patriotic, Fairy Tale, Space
✤ 5th& 6th graders to serve as “Ambassadors”✤ Volunteers needed for decoration, room monitoring

Care and Share
The purpose of the Care and Share program is to provide a safety net for school related needs to our most vulnerable and at-risk students. Examples of how this program and our community helps these students are:
✤ Back to school supplies
✤ Scholarships to clubs and extracurricular activities
✤ Emergency clothing support, particularly during the change of seasons
✤ Classroom Snacks
✤ Thanksgiving meal assistance
✤ Holiday wishes
Military Family Support Group
✤ MFSG has two missions.
✤ The primary mission is to develop a spirit of community. Our group is a place to connect with other military families and provide emotional support and information through all phases of military life. At the meet ups we will provide relevant information for our military families from a variety of helpful sources.
✤ The second mission is to help organize military events at our school like Veteran’s day and Month of the military child.
✤ Everyone is welcome. Active/Reserves/Retired
✤ Upcoming Events:
✤ Welcome Coffee this coming Monday 28th 9am. Special presenters include the senior director of the Military Child Education Coalition for the national capital region and our local program manager of Blue Star Families.
