“Everyone is in need of reassurance, and if we, who have touched ‘the Word of life’ (1 Jn 1:1) do not give it, who will? How beautiful it is to be Christians who offer consolation, who bear the burdens of others and who offer encouragement: messengers of life in a time of death!”

Bishop McKnight has requested each parish to formulate a Disaster Responder Team to provide service to those who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The fol-lowing survey has been created by the St. Joseph Community Support Team of Westpha-lia to assist our community during this time of need. There have been a number of peo-ple who have volunteered to help other community members in need. We understand some people are going to be shut-in and may need groceries, hard to find supplies, pre-scriptions, a meal, transportation, a phone call, a card, financial assistance or simply a prayer. Please help us help the people in our community that may need support. If you know someone in our community or are experiencing a need yourself, please complete the confidential form below. One of the Community Support Team Members will con-tact you. If someone you know would like to complete one of the forms via paper, please have them place it in the secure mailbox behind the parish office. If financial assistance is needed, the Diocese is offering aid through Catholic Charities.

The U.S. Census Bureau is currently hiring for the 2020 Census. By working for the Census Bureau, our community has a special opportunity to help make the 2020 census an accurate and complete count. The count happens every 10 years with the decennial census, which influences how more than $675 billion from more than 100 federal programs are distributed to states and localities each year. Here is some of what the census numbers affect: Medicaid; school lunch programs; community development grants; medical services; business locations. If you are interested in a job, please visit the Cen-sus Bureau job site to apply at 2020census.gov/

Dear St. Joseph Family: I hope you all are doing as well as can be expected, given this Covid-19 situation. I wanted to touch base with you on the projects at the parish. The school parking lot demo and concreting is going along nicely. Mike Berhorst and Co. are hard at work each day, weather permitting. The new concrete, which will rectify a number of large holes and broken steps, will be a wonderful improvement for our safety, as well as an improvement visually. I would like to give a special thanks to the Schwartz Foundation for their generous contribution to the project! Secondly, the work on our historic limestone wall in front of church is going great! This is a detailed and tedious project. The initial power washing of the wall helped to restore some of the wall’s original beauty. The power washing also exposed much more of the loose mortar than we originally thought existed. This is positive, in that we can address the stability issue of the wall to a greater degree. The work of power washing, mortaring and caulking continues. The work is being done by T.J.’s Restoration. Lastly, you may have noticed that we had some tree service on the parish grounds. We had three trees which were dying or dead. These trees were cut down and the stumps grounded. We also had six trees and two bushes which needed to be cut back. The work is completed and was done by Feeler’s Tree Service. Father Viviano
Flowers for the altar and Blessed
Mother for May 23 through June 5 were donated by Sam and Arlene Samson in honor of

Novena Prayer to St. Rocco
O Great St. Rocco, deliver us, we beseech thee,
from the scourges of God;
through thy intercession,
preserve our bodies from contagious diseases,
and our souls from the contagion of sin.
Obtain for us salubrious air;
but, above all, purity of heart.
Assist us to make good use of health,
to bear suffering with patience;
and, after thy example,
to live in the practice of penance and char-
ity, that we may one day enjoy the happiness
which thou has merited by thy virtues.
St. Rocco, pray for us (say three times)
