HECKENBERG PUBLIC SCHOOL WEEK 8, TERM 4 2013

Staffing update As 2013 draws to a close, a small number of our staff have been able to secure

permanent work at another school.

Congratulations and best wishes to Miss Burns and Miss Davey who will be taking up

teaching positions in other schools this year. We will certainly miss their skill and

dedication as outstanding teachers at Heckenberg Public School.

Miss Davey has taught students in Stage 2 and Stage 1 over the past two years. She has led the K-2 Dance

group this term, organised our end of year talent quest and has been a very caring and dedicated member of our

staff who has made a difference to the lives of many children.

Miss Burns has taught a great many of our students over the past years. She has led our talented choir at the

Liverpool Performing Arts Festival and has inspired our students to learn through the wonderful relationships

she has developed with them. Students have enjoyed the sporting events, swim scheme, in-school events such

as Digi-ed and V8 excursions that she organises.

We wish you both well as you continue with your teaching career.

Mrs Riley, our amazing School Learning Support Officer has also been fortunate to secure a permanent position

at another school. Mrs Riley supports student learning in the classrooms, on the playground and you can see her

smiling face each morning as she volunteers in our breakfast club. We will miss her greatly but wish her well in

her new role.

We also wish Mrs Murhan well as she returns to her previous school. We thank Mrs Murhan for agreeing to join

us for 2013 and help to make a difference for our students. Mrs Murhan has been an outstanding Deputy

Principal for our school and has worked tirelessly to support staff and students in their learning. I have truly

valued and appreciated her support, dedication and passion for our students. Thank you Mrs Murhan for the

amazing contribution you have made to our school.

Last Thursday all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

students were invited to a day of celebration and learning at

Busby Public School. Students were accompanied by Mrs

Murhan, and Miss Alderton. The day was a fantastic success

and students were able to participate in sand and bark painting,

dancing and many other cultural activities. The behaviour of

each and every student on this day was simply outstanding.

Thank you to our wonderful students for representing our

school so well.

Kindamanna Day Celebrations

My visit to Stewart House On Monday, the 4th of November, I went to Stewart House. The bus ride took a really long time. When we got there, they took us to our dorms. I was in the downstairs girl’s dorm. The next day was amazing, it was bingo night. I won three prizes. It was a really fun night. On Wednesday we went to Taronga Zoo. I saw heaps of animals, but my favourite was the meerkat. When it was the afternoon we went to the Moscow circus, it was really fun. On Thursday we went to Curl Curl beach. I love the beach. We did woodwork and I made a pony. Then, on Friday we went to the Sydney Olympic park. I loved it. I went on the whirlpool ride. I went on it heaps of times, I got dizzy after that. On the weekend we went into the city. We went to the pool, the pool had waves. After that we went to a magic show. I loved it. On Sunday we went to the Stewart house movie theatre, we watched hotel Transylvania. The next week was really fun, we went to the Home and Away beach, it was awesome. We also had a BBQ and went to Tumbalong park, the biggest park in the Southern Hemisphere. I did lots of things at Stewart House, I wish I could go back there again. by Tegan

Enrolments

Enrichment Day Last week students from Stage 2 and 3 travelled to Ashcroft Public School to

participate in a Community of Schools Enrichment day. This wonderful day was

planned by a team of dedicated teachers from each of the schools, including our

own Miss Stone.

Students participated in a range of enrichment activities in the areas of sport,

science, film making, problem solving and music. Our students represented our

school fantastically and should be very proud of their efforts.

Congratulations to Eneliko, Lachlan, Thomas, Brock, Johara, Erica, Eanna, Anjali,

Tito, Markus, Courtney, Amy, Jaidyn, Mason, Tony, Bobby, Nicholas, Julie N,

Julie T, Kim, Vamika and Kajol.

We are now taking enrolments for

Kindergarten 2014. If you know of

any child who turns 5 before 31 July

2014 please let them know to call or

come up to the front office and

collect an enrolment form.

Heckenberg Public School sent a number of boys down to a rugby league

event at Ashcroft High School on Friday 11th October. For some it was a

day of fun in the sun, but for others – it may have been a date with

destiny. The day began with a number of drills including: tackling, ball

skills and modified games. We had one student, Bailey, that trialled for a

rugby league scholarship for 2014, however, after playing exceptionally

well, Damon may have also forced his way into the selectors’ sights.

Nathan was a workhorse and made a number of strong runs, taking two

and three defenders to bring him down. Alex made a good fist of it,

impressing his new peers with his work ethic and enthusiasm. Matthew

showed good form with some tremendous tackling, whilst Thomas

proved his mettle, taking some HUGE hits and getting back up to

continue to play the game. Levi and Brock were very energetic, making a

number of darting runs from dummy-half and big Bailey took the ball up

to the line strongly. Tapelu tested the defence with some scything runs,

worrying the defensive line every time he received the ball.

Nathan draws the defence and passes to Damon after breaking a tackle.

The boys were provided with free transport, as well as a free barbeque

lunch and drink and we would like to express our gratitude to the staff

and Year 10 students from Ashcroft, who ran the drills and skills

activities and refereed the games, represented their school exceptionally

well.

I would also like to thank the boys for their exemplary behaviour on the

day, they represented our school in the best manner possible – you were

a pleasure to take away!

Anti-racism

contact officer Racism in all its forms is rejected by the NSW Department of Education and Communities. Our school has appointed Mrs Grdic to the role of anti-racism contact officer to help parents, students or staff experiencing problems with racism and to provide interested parents with copies of the relevant Department policies on this issue.

The anti-racism contact officer will listen to the problem and, with the principal Mrs Van Der Meulen, find ways to resolve it as quickly as possible. Contact the office to make an appointment to see the principal or Mrs Grdic the school’s anti-racism contact officer for help.
