Stonewall Riot Monument

When first looking for a project for my Service Learning Project, I came across the Stonewall Resource Center on InfoIsland

I contacted Hypatia Dejavu to see if they had any projects they needed help with

Luckily, they had a project they were in the middle of that needed help

Stonewall Riot Monument

I was presented with a monument for the Stonewall Riots that needed information

I was asked to do some research and create a set of notecards that would be distributed

I spent a few days doing research online and found some good resources with basic information

Knowing that the target audience will most likely not know much about the Riot, nor care about the specific details, I used basic overviews to create the report

What resulted was a two page background on the Riot, which eventually became a set of four notecards

Unfortunately, I did not take any screenshots of the display

If you click on each slide, you can receive a copy of the notecards. One notecard per slide

Trans Day of Remembrance

In addition to my work on the Stonewall Riot Monument, I was asked to create a brief description of Trans Day of Remembrance

Similar to my work with the Riot notecard, I did some research and collected information about the history of the Day of Remembrance

SJSU SLIS Halloween

PartyI was originally asked to volunteer on this project by Susie Quinn (Susie Schridde)

I let her know that I could do what she needed me to do for the event - create objects, advertise, etc

The project eventually came to the attention of Jeremy Kemp and was extended as a project for the entire class

PartyThose who volunteered to work on the project met up in the weeks following the event

Eventually, it grew to about 5/6 main volunteers

Each was assigned a specific task to perform

Page 15: Vportfolio

SJSU SLIS Halloween

PartyFor my part, I was tasked with creating the t-shirts, as well as manning the Primtionary booth

As around the date of the event I had projects coming up, it was difficult to accomplish both tasks

I was able to finish four variations of the shirt, and work on the booth design

PartyBefore the event, I made sure to advertise the party through various social networking sites - Facebook, Twitter, Livejournal

I was hoping to get to the younger, more tech savvy students through these means - as they are more likely to use Second Life

SJSU SLIS Halloween

PartyOn the day of the event, I ended up organizing the costume contest, which turned out pretty well given I had to pick it up about 5 minutes before

Through this project, I definitely learned how to work collaboratively through Second Life and real life

I also learned how to prepare for an event and have contingency plans set
