Dear Galilee, Do you see what I see? Ten years ago, I saw a church filled with hope, poten-tial and promise where each disciple was willing to trust God, follow vision and embrace the leadership of a young, energetic, courageous vessel. Al-though fearful, yet curious, skeptical and optimistic at the same time many were willing to take a leap of faith and expand its’ reach beyond the walls of the church in Winston-Salem, and beyond. Optimism and the prayers of the righteous allowed the doubtful and the faithful to embark upon a jour-ney of faith together and witness the beauty of what can happen when there is unity in the body of Christ.

On day one I saw a church that would grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, strong in prayer, fellowship, pillar in the community, friendly, spirited, abundant in love, diverse, nurturing, compassionate and different from all other churches in this area. At best, I always believed that Galilee would be the church that functions as God intends even when faced with adversity in a changing culture and climate of economic despair. It was re-freshing and frightening to hear the voice of God and challenge the disci-pleship to embrace a new and yet undefined legacy that would require all of us to walk by faith. I knew that it would require an enormous amount of sacrifice, spiritual discipline and the need to be good stewards. We accepted the challenge, history was made, a new chapter was written and to God be the glory for the great things he has done.

Today I see a church that refuses to be content with the triumphs of the past, but is constantly looking towards the future with a commitment to spread-ing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Galilee will be a local church with a global reach leading through action, service, agitation, organization and education determined to seek justice for the least, the last and the lost. Our ministry will equip and empower generations to strive for excellence while continu-ing to build bridges between generations and honor the rich heritage and incredible legacy of our founders. I see a church with spirited worship, pow-erful preaching, and a commitment to developing leaders that are willing to dream and reach for the stars. The sky is the limit for our ministry as we seek to make disciples, build community and change lives. I believe Galilee will be known as the church of generosity. Our influence in the local and global community will be defined by the lives we’ve touched and changed for the better. The Galilee brand will be marked by its core values and defined by our love for Christ and excellence in ministry.

I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen and I’m inspired by our potential and a desire to be a healthy church seeking to overcome obstacles and create op-portunities that will make a difference in the world in which we live. Galilee, do you see what I see? By His grace,  Dr. Nathan E. Scovens, Pastor

Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat is the Mission Statement for Galilee? The mission of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church is to make disci-ples, build communities and change lives for Jesus Christ.

What is the Pastor’s Vision for GMBC?Grow SpirituallyReduce/Eliminate DebtFinish Building and Developing the GMBC Campus

What is Vision Forward? Vision Forward is a stewardship campaign designed to provide dis-ciples with an avenue to grow spiritually, finish projects and reduce/eliminate debt.

How long is Vision Forward? Vision Forward is a 3 Year Stewardship Campaign. 2017 is the sec-ond year of the campaign.

Why should I give to Vision Forward?God calls all of us to seek him first and he will take care of our needs. The number one reason to give to this campaign is the Great Com-mission; Matthew 28:19-20, Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Ultimately your contributions will help us grow spiritually, finish projects and eliminate debt.

What is a commitment/pledge form and why do you need one?The commitment/pledge form is a simple statement of intent. It will help the church financial leadership team plan for the future and gauge the overall success of the campaign.

Where do I get information to commit to Vision For-ward? Information for Vision Forward can be picked up in the Narthex (lob-by) or by calling the church office at (336) 724-3857.

Grow Spiritually Vision Forward will give each disciple an opportunity to grow spiritually. Every believer should engage in spiritual disciplines that will foster growth in the areas of prayer, worship, fasting, serving, stewardship, fellowship and learning. A spiritual discipline is, when practiced faithfully and regularly, a habit or regular pattern in your life that repeatedly brings you back to God and opens you up to what God is saying to you. Vision Forward will serve as a vehicle that will allow you to grow in your personal relationship with God as you seek to live a life that brings honor and glory to His name. We must remember that what makes something a spiritual discipline is that it takes a specific part of your way of life and turns it toward God. I suggest the following as opportunities for growth:

On the first Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of EACH month the church will be

called to consecration.
