Outline:

1. Introduction Name and topic

2. Unit of Volume how to measure volume (metric units)

1. samples: cubic millimeter, centimeter, meter, milliliter and liter

2. put a conversion value:

1. 1 cubic cm = 1000 cubic m

2. 1 cubic m = 1,000,000 cubic cm

3. 1 ml = 1 cubic cm

4. 1 liter = 1000 ml

3. long time ago, we are using the British units of measurement: ex:

1. cubic inches, feet, pints, quarts and gallon

2. put conversion table :

1. 1 cubic ft = 1728 cubic inches

2. 1 cubic yards = 27 cubic ft.

3. 1 qt. = 2 pints

4. 1 gallon = 4 quarter

Reminder that we need to use the suitable or appropriate units when we measure. For large objects such as swimming pool we use cubic meter. For smaller objects such as matchbot we use cubic cm.

4. Definition of Words

1. Volume = is a measure of the amount of space occupied.

2. Unit Cube = cube with edge of 1 unit.

(draw cube showing 3 units)

3. Volume = unit cube is one cubic unit = 1 unit cubic

4. Ex. draw 3 boxes : volume for 1 cubic cm ; 1 cubic mm ; 1 cubic m

5. Show how to compute the volume of cuboids:

1. draw a cube: page. 16 example

2. Exercise : Q. 1 in test yourself

1. Answer : a: 5 x 3 x 5 = 45 x 3 = 135 units

2. b: (1) 7 x 4 x 7 = 28 x 7 = 196 units ; b (2) : 3 x 5 x 4 = 15 x 4 = 60 units

196 + 60 units = 256 units

3. 6 x 6 = 36 x 2 = 72 ; 3 x 2 = 6 x 3 = 18 : 72 + 18 = 90 units

4. 5 x 6 = 30 x 2 = 60 units ; 2 x 3 = 6 x 2 = 12 units : 60 + 12 = 72 units

6. A. Calculating the volume of a cuboids:

the Volume is : Length x Breadth x Height

Ex. Discuss example 1: page 16:

B. Solving Problems involving the volume of cuboids:

Ex. Discuss Example 2; Example 3 and Example 4

Exercise : On the board:

Calculate the volumesfor each of the objects below.(the measurements are all in centimeters (cm)

volume =24cm3

volume =30cm3

volume =45cm3

volume =8cm3

volume =1cm3

volume =24000cm3

2.2 : Volumes of Right Circular Cylinders and Right Prisms:Volume of a right circular cylinder

V = area of base x height

v = (pie) r (square) heightDiscuss Ex. 6 page 21Board work:
